By the sounds of it, they will become homeless. Rent everywhere has gotten out of control within the last 4 years or so. You would fight to if you are going to become homeless because of an eviction. On top of that, not very many landlords are going to accept them because of the eviction is on their record.

I agree with you but don't at the same time. It's not entitlement if you are fighting for survival. At their age nothing is easy and their quality of life will suffer. It is worth fighting for any way you can. These days relocation means moving minimum 50 miles.

But regardless, it's not their property so they have no say so. That's one reason why people buy property. So they can decide if they stay or go. No one is saying it's not unfortunate that they have to leave the home they grew up in but the fact is they chose not to purchase a home so now they have to leave. They knew from the beginning when they first moved into that house that this was a possibility. And let this be an eye-opener to everybody else that rents. Baby boomers are dieing and the properties that they acquired may be sold. So if you're renting you may very well be in this exact same situation. They're just lucky that they're in rent control. If they weren't in a great controlled area they wouldn't be getting that larger amoun to move out.
