ECHO PB 250LN Cutting Out Bogging Down

Well, there are 2 adjustable mixture screws on that style carb. You only adjusted the high speed screw, and while that can fix it, often you need to balance it out with the idle/low speed screw. It runs down the inside of the throttle barrel, located 90° from the side screw you found under the purge bulb. There is a cover over this part on top that covers the throttle linkage, remove that, and looking down at top of carb you see the hole inside the shaft with a nut on the outside. It also has a plastic plug from the factory. Aftermarket carbs usually omit them. This is the low speed/idle circuit screw. Also have to coordinate the idle speed with the low speed adjustment, keep it at idle speed when adjusting the mix. ALSO, MANY times bogging like this where it just refuses to rev up is due to a plugged muffler spark screen, and/or carbon built up behind the muffler in the exhaust port! To clean out, remove the muffler run the piston to the bottom, and carefully scrape out the carbon to the edge of the port, blow out the cylinder from the spark plug hole before replacing the muffler. The screens are serviced without pulling the muffler, behind the small plate with a screw on the face by the outlet. Use a torch to burn the carbon out, or soak In Sea foam, or laquer thinner, etc. In this video, that PB250 was not revving like it should, still needs one or more of the above mentioned. 👍🙏

I have an older style PB-250 with the high and low exposed screws. My repair guy told me he's not allowed to sell me the micro D tool to adjust them, sighting an EPA regulation. I had to grab a set off Ebay. Great hack btw.

adjusting while running is always best to tune the high jet on the carb with machine running and throttle to the max adjust it till it makes peak rpm then just a hair turn back in to keep the customer from blowing there machine up lol

Glad to see you got it back to working! A couple of our string trimmers are having the opposite problem. They shut off once we release the throttle and they won't idle. So, we will be checking them out once we have more time! Great video👍🏻

Thanks for the vid. I did this after changing filter, spark plug and cleaning the muffler port(other video on this). Still no go. It ended up being the fuel filter in the tank, which was original- about 7 years old. Also, I could access the screw with out removing any cover. There was some outside ring I tried to get out but then I looked closely and saw the adjust screw and screwed it back and forth. Did not solve the problem. Again, the fuel filter was old and clogged.

My echo started bogging, then only run at idle..dumped fuel, cleaned all.lones, same problem. Followed this video and it now runs as good as new. I only run the premix cans you buy, trufuel etc..so I usually don't have a fuel.problem

Echos always have that problem. I had the same problem with my srm. Took to the shop and it was the fuel filter. Which I could've done myself. Thanks for the video👍

Used your heat method to remove that plug. Worked perfect!

I did the heat trick to a Husqvarna bt150 and plug came out and adjusted it , runs mint

There’s a low speed needle adjustment on the top of the carb where the throttle pivots. It is under a brass plug. You needed to adjust it also because now it is too rich on the high speed needle and is blubbering and not reaching full rpms. It is a lot better but if you adjust both screws you’ll have great throttle response and the recommended top speed. Google the specs and use a tachometer only for the high speed needle adjustment.

Hey I have a PB 252 is is kinder the same what you have there. I have that same problem but sometimes there's a knocking in machine as well. The don't happen often and I don't know what to do.

Good work 👍, fuel mix is too thin, needs more oil in the fuel should be smoke from the exhaust ports.

I made mine to work adjusting this little hidden screew that you showed,but everytime I used it, i have to adajust it again, so i dont know why it has to be like that, any ideas how to fix it permanently?

Mine just started doing that bog down and then I adjusted the high idle and started running good then ran it full throttle then it just died

Good day my friends. I have always wondered how these worked and you did a fantastic job demonstrating all the features on this unit. I had no idea it used gas, are there alternative unit that maybe run on something else? I remember buying a lawn mover that was completely manual but since I moved to a high rise I had no need for it anymore.

any ideas on when its not the idle?…i have less than 20 hours on my es-250 and ugh just did all of this for it to still be bogged down….im thinking my throttle might be wrong after disassembling other than that i have no idea
