Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. The eclipse goes under the knife to become better than ever. Being the perfectionist I am, no detail is left spared. Follow me on IG: @drewmestel @ghost.eclipse
Thank you sincerely for your support and appreciation. I'm actually working on the next installment right now, and it will be conplete very soon. The next 2 episodes are far better as well. See ya then 👊
Thank you so much for putting this up, the 2000 gt I bought off some kid to replace my totalled 04 gs needs some serious love and this vid will be a huge help with that.
Quick note for anyone reading comments regarding rear strut removal, the part the bottom of the strut connects to is the work of Satan. For some reason, it's a separate piece that's threaded into the knuckle with the same twist as the bolt that threads into it and secures the strut on there, meaning it's one badly seized bolt away from all coming out instead of the bolt you should be removing. This would be manageable if the strut's lower bushing didn't like to fuse to that mount sometimes, making it difficult to get the strut actually off of that threaded piece when it's all out in one piece. It also has never been sold separately from the knuckle, meaning there's no reason for it to be a separate piece in the first place. If you are having problems separating the strut from this piece and don't feel like taking a Dremel to the strut's lower mounting ring and bushing, you can make your junkyard search easier by knowing that the 2g eclipse has the exact same piece.
You're rear strut bar is exactly how I did mine and caught shit for from people in the 3g group. Good video man mine was way rustier, I just dropped the whole rear subframe and had to cut it apart from there.
This video is UNBELIEVABLY well produced!! The time you took to set up your camera-work and focus on every small detail is super appreciated! I love that someone is making content of this caliber for the 3G Eclipse. Also I'm pretty sure my filler neck bracket is also filled with dirt and rust, so I'll have to inspect that some time!
Thank your very much for watching and for the kind words Allan. Leaving no detail spared is the goal and I'm glad you appreciate it. Next episode is almost complete, appreciate your support!
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!! I appreciate the well lit and clear video shots with the detailed process description; as well as the helpful tips along the way! (if you play it in reverse, it is an awesome car assembly video ;-)
Thanks for breaking down Everything I need to replace my subframe in the back I'm having a hell of a time getting some of these bolts out And it is really hard to find replacement bolts
I'm super glad to hear that this Eclipse build series is becoming a resource for other owners. Hope it helps, and feel free to ask any questions for things you run into. Chances are you're never alone.
Pleasant surprise video :) you’re build was a huge reason I bought a 3g eclipse and got into manual and modding cars… realized it’s a lot harder than I thought and kicked off building up my own tools and buying and reviving a 2002 wrx. Can’t wait to see this restoration 🎉
I stumbled upon this series after seeing your comment in another video. I'm absolutely looking forward to watching/following. I've got the convertible version of the same car. It's in similar condition so I am thinking a lot of your experience will apply to my own. Great video quality. Keep up the good work!
Are there any tips you could give me for restoring the correct height ratio and camber when using cheap coilovers for my 3G? I've been driving on them for a year but shrinking the front coilovers to no exposed thread and maxing out the rear coilovers to their full exposed thread gives my ride more height in the front than the rear and the camber on the rear wheel, because of how low the rear is, is either too positive or negative (I'm not sure). Is there any way to add height to the rear coilovers and fix the camber?
For the front SPC essentric strut bolt kits in tandem with camber strut plates on top should give you plenty of range of adjustability. For the rear, rear upper control arm camber kits allow for adjustment out from the top to reduce negative camber. Or, you can simple get longer bolts and add washers to move it outward on a budget. That's about all you'll need.
Haha eh... perhaps that would be a waste of money. This will be a VIP style stance car when completed and has a low mileage bone stock 6g72, meaning going turbo isn't worth it. If anything I'll swap to the 3.8L and do an N/A build. I already have some parts for that. 👍
