These teardowns are very informative. There are plenty of people reviewing products but getting an inside look and find out the workmanship and what battery cells are actually there does two things that everyone can appreciate: 1. Validates what the manufacturer said it had (or doesn't have), and 2. Gives potential buyer confidence in knowing exactly what they are getting. Great job!

Great job you just earned a new 62 year old female subscriber who is transfixed by your tear downs! I’m on the fence whether to buy this or bluetti’s eb70s power station. Would prefer eb70s yet in many reviews it’s getting accused of having a smaller inverter than advertised yet it’s all just hearsay without a teardown. Please, please, please do a teardown of the eb70s next. Thank you, thank you, thank you!🌻🌺🌻

Your presentations are enlightening! I have matched the River Pro with two Renogy 100W panels. Coming from a totally different perspective, I find confidence in your commentary. A decade ago I dreamed of powering the DC needs of my office with a couple of batteries and a box full of pigtails. For reasonable money, this River Pro *is* that box. Nothing is perfect, but I think this power station is great technology for the $$... and leaves me with options should I need more battery or care to avoid a power outage. I think it's better than most would suspect. Wouldn't you agree?

Mine died completely. This gave me the confidence to open her up and poke around. Two of the four battery groups are very low on voltage (less than 1.5). I'm charging it through the xt60 coming from the bms and voltage does indeed go up. I've had less than 100 cycles on it, 350w max. 2.5 years old and just out of warranty. Sure did hope for more given the price point it would be sad if it was completely disposable and not serviceable at all

I have a Delta (KS version) and a R600 PRO (also KS version) with expansion battery. All their batteries have one major issue, an extreme high self discharge. If you really want live off-grid and charge via solar, the high self discharge, the fake MPPT and the bad AC conversion rate let you move very quick to someting else. I build first my own battery pack and used Victron charger and AC converter with it. Now is also the battery from Victron. What a difference to Ecoflow, no heat, no fans, no noise!
@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 11 месяцев назад
@@BeautyOfGaiahigh self discharge? This would only happen if the BMS has a ridiculous quiescent current draw or there’s some background power sucker that doesn’t turn off when you have the outputs disabled and the screen off. Lithium ion discharges at 1-2% a month max. I have some cells I put into storage a year ago at 3.65-3.70 and I just double checked them since it’s been exactly 12 months. Voltage was almost exactly as I left it. If there was any difference then they only lost 10 or 20 millivolts at most because I remember I had an even spread between 3.65 and 3.70 and it’s still like that with nothing below 3.653 Not too sure exactly what cells they were putting in these first gen units before they switched all their devices to LiFePO4. Probably Chinese cells but I can’t imagine they’d use junk cells. Hopefully EVE, BAK or Lishen.
@BeautyOfGaia
@BeautyOfGaia 10 месяцев назад
@@ericklein5097 The cells are in packs, impossible to say if there are cells with different quality used. I don't think that the cells are bad. Its their electronic design. All models have only a soft switch. So, a push button to switch it on and off. Means there is all the time a circuit alive, outsite of the BMS. Depending on where the soft switch is located, means what other curcuits there are also alive, is the discharge rate different. For my Delta is it massive. The R600 PRO is better. More worst, is the horrible conversion rate. Delta is more a heater than a power bank. The R600 PRO have still a conversion rate below 80%. Off grid solutions should have a conversion rate of at least 92%, which is possible if quality converter are used. But China companies have to make more profit than others, GOV need to be funded. So, build cheap, sell high. Don't care about customer, they are far away.
@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 10 месяцев назад
@@BeautyOfGaia very interesting. Thanks for the insight into the bad electronics design of the earlier EcoFlow units. You should be able to take apart any of the Ecoflow units fairly easily until you get down to the pack and then the cell holders will have some open space in the middle that should show enough info to figure out the cell model

Excellent, indeed it is very useful. I have an additionnal question: did you (or could you...) perform a similar teardown on the external battery for River 600 Pro? My interest is wether it would be possible to directly access its battery, since it does not seem safe to do it on the main module. I would like to have a 12V high amperage output, which LiFePO batteries are able to deliver.
@nashdashflash
@nashdashflash Год назад
I'm pretty sure these have a 36v battery configuration internally. Around the 11:15 min mark in this video, it's shown there's a DC-DC part that is stepping down the voltage to 12v.
@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 11 месяцев назад
@@nashdashflashit’s an 8S which is one cell above the standard 7S 24V that most of the industry uses. Meaning an expansion battery (DIY) would have to be built from scratch and not cobbled together from scooter packs or something. 8S LiFePO4 is the standard 24V but that’s 3.2V nominal and these are 3.6V.
@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 11 месяцев назад
Take the cable going from battery to inverter and turn it into a parallel cable with two outputs. Then run that output into a buck converter that supports a wide range 24V to 12V. This is going to be 28.6V nominal and 33.6V full charge so you might have to find a buck converter that can do 36V/24V to 12V. Obviously you’re going to need a large buck converter if you want a high amperage output. These cells “should” be capable of 20A if they are Samsung 25R clones which I suspect they are just based on the model number. So 10 in parallel gives you 200A at 29V nominal which would be almost 500A at 12V Obviously that would leave nothing for your inverter and you definitely do not want to run the cells that hard. You could steal 5A at 29V nominal and still get about 12A at 12V for 144W

I wonder if River Pro conducts ongoing balancing / equalization of P-groups of cells in series as for every battery it is critical to have cells (P-groups) in serial circuit always in balance - for pack's maximum life span. Any idea how River Pro's BMS performs in this question? Without balancing / equalization device will deliver much shorter life time than its cells can do. For every pack of cells the cells - at certain point of time - for sure run out of balance, it is not possible to produce fully identical cells. Only completely identical cells don't run out of balance - these exist only in theory. @LithiumSolar Thanks for job made!

@@DSeeKer The extra battery port is not an XT60.. it is some kind of "D" connector with extra large pins.. but you can not connect another battery there. You can connect any battery up to 25 volts up to the solar input though.

@@DSeeKer Oh.. I see what you are saying ... the xt60 that connects to the BMS board from the EB port..I doubt that it would work... The main CPU would have to tell the BMS board to turn on the input from that port and without communications with the extra battery it probably won't do that.

When charging it through AC, do you smell anything? I am wondering if mine is frying inside when charging up.... or if its just first charge giving off smells...

No... If it smells while charging, I would immediately unplug and stop using it!

@@LithiumSolar Thanks. So when it is charging like 400-600W, or if the fan turns on when powering AC devices. You dont smell anything coming out the fan? Im powering it now, I smell a little bit not much. Im gonna run it to 50%, power it up and see if I notice anything. Then may send it back. Not sure if Im just worrying, everything else works ok...
