15:55 to be fair, Tommy Dreamer not winning at an ECW event is the most ECW thing this PPV did

Osw had a great quote about taking sabu out of this match "wwe thought all he could do is weapon gimmick matches....so they take him out of the weapons gimmick match"

I will always remember the interview Paul Heyman gave about this Match where he literally said that Vince Screamed to him 'they will push Bobby Lashley, not CM Punk!' - and that he did not give a single f about what the Fans think or what he thinks. Only to prove them all right in the end and STILL(!) being so oblivious to why this booking failed so hard that he fired Paul E as if it was all his Fault. No Vince, you SURELY did nothing wrong here.

Only a decade and a half later, one mma career, and more time spent in another promotion than in WWE; this show created a new star Bobby Lashley 😂

BEWARE THE BOX-LIKE STRUCTURE

I respect their decision on not putting Sting vs Jeff Hardy. It's something I wanted to see when it started but overtime, I even watched it myself and it was uncomfortable to watch. So, I respect their decision. Next week is Fiend vs Randy Orton? Oh boy... This is gonna be another one of those matches that I never went back to watch it.

There isn't a box in the Fiend/Orton match. It was a box-like structure 😂

I think they didn’t do this event at Hammerstein because the chamber wouldn’t have been able to be hung from ceiling. It’s a pretty small place.

I've always wondered if Punk had won this like Heyman wanted, would it be looked at more favorably. The upside to this match to me is that WWE felt so bad about it that they added MNM and Hardys to the ladder match at Armageddon a few weeks later and I was 2nd row for that match (RIP Mercury's Nose)

So amazing thing about this PPV, my brother owns it on DVD. I assume he just bought whatever DVDs were available when he first into wrestling (its a nearly random selection of 2005 and 2006 WWE DVDs), and this was definitely one of them.

Okay, but if Fiend vs Orton is next, you have no excuse to _not_ have the House of Horrors match in the box.

They suffered through nearly 30 minutes of the worst Chamber match in history, and still nothing made those boys look nearly as miserable as they do just hearing the words "Randy Orton vs The Fiend"...

On the subject of The Fiend appearing next episode, I cannot wait for THAT Hell in a Cell match to be on here. That match is so painful, and IMO, worse than the zombies match.

To answer Luke’s question about why people are nostalgic for this era, it’s when I started watching wrestling. I was 7 when this match happened so my frame of reference for ECW at that point was whatever WWE told me it was, my frame of reference for DX was the 06-07 version (which I still genuinely enjoy), and it’s the theme, look, and roster I most associate with Raw and SmackDown to this day. I also think it’s a roster that was full of potential in the company that just never went anywhere. Shelton Benjamin should have been a mega star but never was, Carlito could have been a star but wasn’t, Mr Kennedy should have been a mega star but wasn’t. But it’s also the era of John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton, and Edge as big players that informs all of the careers they have now.

I can't remember if you guys have the 2015 IC title chamber but if you dont you need to add it to the mix

Total agreement with not putting in Hardy Vs Sting. Kinda soured the taste for me when it came to TNA. However, I do have a Worst Match of the Year award winner for a potential watch. I give you, the first ever Reverse Battle Royal as part of the Fight for the Right tournament 🤣🤣 And yet, there are some big names in there.

Fiend vs Orton has GOT to be high on the list, for sheer astronomical levels of disappointment :(

Matches like Jeff Hardy vs Sting, Yasukawa vs Yoshiko ('that' Stardom match), Jarrett vs Steiner vs Sid (the one where Sid suffers his career ending injury and spends the entire match screaming in pain), any of the New Jack incidents... are some of the 'worst matches ever', but not the fun kind of worst match ever, but ones where you can do nothing but look on in horror. I don't blame you for not covering any of those one's

The 1st half of the match was a solid enough but the last half has collapsed faster than Toronto maple leafs in the playoffs.

I wish you guys would've watched Heyman's promo before this match, mainly to listen to the fans heckle Heyman. There's an infamous moment in the promo where Heyman talks about Big Show and a fan says loud enough for the mics to pick up "WHO'S GONNA RETIRE NEXT YEAR!"

The Test quote to Stacy Keiber is from Survivor Series 2001, when Test was IC champ and he faced US champ Edge in a Title Unification Match. HE lost, and then won the Immunity battle Royale. I have a soft spot for that PPV, and remember it well lol

My opinion on this one is possibly a controversial hot take: The actual wrestling in this match? Is fine. It's not 5 star classic or anything, but when you get right down to it: there's some good spots, blood and hardcore stuff, good sequences like that CM Punk/RVD chair exchange, and though we have Bob Holly Bob Hollying there are no scary drop-on-head botches in the match like Goldberg v Taker. I think someone without knowledge of the backstage antics or any ECW nostalgia? Could enjoy this match. The reason this is considered one of the worst matches ever? Is purely down to the booking. As the guys (and many others) have rightly pointed out; the eliminations were booked completely back to front: the 2 fan favourites are out pretty much back to back, one face eliminating the other, and the winner being basically telegraphed in flashing neon lights by the time we got to the depressing 'final 3'. Had they gone with Tempest's simple suggestion of Test and RVD switching places, have Big Show eliminate RVD then Bobby comes in as the avenging babyface to win? I honestly think this episode would not have happened; the chamber match would have never entered contention for worst match ever. A bad wrestling match can be redeemed or at least forgiven if it's part of a good story. A good wrestling match can never save a bad story.

Not the worst wrestled match ever but maybe the most depressingly booked.

Paul Heyman told Vince exactly how stupid this booking was. And Vince was too arrogant and stubborn to listen. And surprise surprise it got crapped on. So of course Vince blamed Paul for it in the end.

That Test thing was either Summerslam or Survivor Series 2001 when he was taking on Edge cause Edge took the piss out of Test and his Canadian accent.

I haven't read his book, but I always got the impression that Bob Holly was a way bigger star in his head than he ever actually was.

Technically speaking, it's not a bad match. It's really well paced, and if it wasn't for the horrible booking decisions, it might have actually been quite good. It was death by a thousands cuts in some ways. The rest of the card already had people with a bad taste in their mouth. Then they took out Sabu, in the lamest way possible. Then they added Hardcore Holly despite people wanting New Stars and old ECW guys in the new ECW. Nobody wanted Big Show as Champion, and nobody wanted Bobby at this stage either. This was the real start of Vince's jamming his own ideas down the audiences throat, people didn't want Lashley as ECW champ. Then eliminating the clear fan favourite first was just lunacy. Punk should have won, or at very least made it to the end.

And as far as Sting v Jeff Hardy (1. I agree completely. 2. I hope this isn't a poor oversimplification.), Worst Match Ever is meant to be like watching a demolition derby. That match is just a highway pileup. Yes, it happened, but we don't need to revisit it and watch a serious low point in a man's life/career. Especially after another incident recently, I just wish the best for Jeff Hardy and truly hope he gets the help he needs, not just for himself, but for his friends, family, and even his fans.

It's probably in the box, but the Fiend vs Seth Rollins, Hell in a Cell.

Well, that was... a match. It's bad, but it's not spectaculary bad like The Zombie Match or hilarious like the women's match you guys watched a few weeks ago. What makes this match and the whole PPV so infamous is the whole stuff surrounding Vince running ECW into the ground. PS: In the next match there isn't a big box. It's a box like structure!

If Fiend/Orton from WM37 is in the box, Bray vs Randy from Mania 33 had BETTER be in there too.... Cause my. GAWD.... That match is like all time bad....

I never considered this match to be in the worst ever catagory, it's so very very very dull but the match itself isn't a walking disaster. What was disastrous was the booking of and behind the match with one of Vince's most Vince plays to tank his own promotion just to say he was right. There's so many TNA things that need to be in here, the blindfold match between Storm and Harris or the electrified cage (from the same damn show) with the cartoon electrified noises played over the sound system. Or the casket match (or whatever TNA called it) between Abyss and Sting which the crowd just chanted "fire Russo" all through. I assume most if not all of those are already in the box.

I’m surprised that the match between Booker T and Buff Bagwell that was shown on Raw hasn’t been shown on this show yet. The whole match itself was an attempt to relaunch WCW as its own separate brand, essentially replacing RAW with Nitro. It’s actually referred to by wrestling journalists at the time as The Worst Wrestling Match ever.

This ws my forvorite of the worst matches they've watched so far, not becuase of the match itselft, but because of the legnth of the video. And I also really enjoyed there commentary for this one

Honestly the best story WWECW ever did was the Tommy Dreamer chasing after the championship. I had a few dumb moments but it had a great payoff. You can't ask for more than that sometimes :)

Man, this is really giving me RiffTrax vibes in the best way, except with RiffTrax being scripted, I don't think it would work without watching the main feature, which this does. Though I do wonder if doing a RiffTrax like video on just storylines, no matches unless specific spots are needed, could work.

Given the roster (that I remember), if I were booking it, I would've had CM Punk, Big Show, RVD, Sabu, Hardcore Holly, and probably either Mike Knox or Stevie Richards. Everyone likes to crap on Holly in ECW, but, he definitely had a reinvention during this time. Go back and watch his match against RVD where he split his back open. That dude had authenticity in ECW.
