Now that I’m finally, FINALLY free from the burden of covering almost exclusively DVD releases of Disney television shows, I can finally post this video that I meant to upload for the actual date of the occasion it’s meant to celebrate back on January 4, 2024, but couldn’t due to this channel of mine still being stuck in its Disney Channel phase at the time. Oh well, at least it’s still within the same year as the anniversary, so close enough in my book.
Happy belated 25th anniversary, Ed, Edd ‘N’ Eddy! In honor of the first divisible-by-25 anniversary of these cul-de-sac kings, here is a video showcasing every menu and special feature contained within their show’s most comprehensive physical media release to date.
Ed, Edd ‘N’ Eddy: The Complete Series was itself released in slightly belated honor of a milestone occasion: Cartoon Network’s 30th birthday. Despite its title, this set is actually only 98% complete: it is missing the three holiday specials -“Jingle Jingle Jangle”, “Boo Haw Haw”, and “Hanky Panky Hullabaloo” - , as well as the series finale movie from 2009 - Ed, Edd ‘N’ Eddy’s Big Picture Show. This is likely because the DVD set is basically just a physical version of what is available for the series on what was, at the time of the set’s release, known as HBO Max, as that service (now known as simply Max) is also missing the holiday specials and Big Picture Show. However, 66 of the show’s 69 22-minute installments produced between 1999 and 2007 are accounted for here, and that might be enough for causal fans who are eyeing this release at their local Walmart (the intended demographic of this release anyways).
This release gives each of the show’s five complete seasons two discs each (with the one and only sixth season episode tossed in at the end of season 5, again just like on Max). Seasons 1 and 2 of Ed, Edd ‘N’ Eddy were previously released on DVD individually on October 10, 2006 and April 24, 2007 respectively, and The Complete Series reprints those older releases and places their discs alongside completely new (at the time) discs containing the three (technically four) seasons that hadn’t already been released on DVD prior to the mega box set’s release. Unfortunately, in spite of this being a commemorative anniversary box set, the new discs included all have the standard highly generic Warner Bros. menu template we all know and loathe now: the main menu is just the set’s front cover art reconfigured to fill up the whole screen, and the Episode Selection and Language Selection screens consist of an empty-feeling void of the same primary color as the set’s packaging (blue in this case). Also, there are no new special features included here: only what was included in the past on seasons 1 and 2 (they ARE using the same discs as their prior releases, after all). However, again, the intended demographic of this release isn’t going to care about those criticisms, so if you really want those Ed boys on disc, this DVD set is still far and away your best option.
