Caring isn't just Ed's story, it's the story of millions, caring for each other, dealing with tough times, and keeping going with love. The Liberal Democrats will be the voice of carers every day, fighting their corner in Parliament.
I met him briefly last week, he is a thoroughly nice man, a really decent chap, he was very gracious and generous with his time. We need more people like Ed Davey in Politics.
Ed's Story is that he took a knighthood as a reward for putting the Tories in power. He's now using his family to make himself look more human. The problem with politics is too many people like Ed Davey and the sooner he is out of it the better.
@@almac8524 btw, listen to the excellent Radio 4 podcast into the scandal if you have time to listen to all of it beyond being able to read headlines in a large font in the Mail. Ed Davey barely mentioned, if at all. Even Private Eye go light on him
Ed is just your normal bloke, your average Notts fella that's grown up the same way 99% of us have! People need to realise there's more options than just Tory or labour! Wake up people, pets use our vote to make a difference, let's disrupt the norm and show we want more than what the big 2 are offering!
@@keefedonk 99% of people dont go to private schools and then to Oxford. He is firmly out of the 99%, it doesn't make him bad person but he's also nothing like "your average bloke"
Im not a LD supporter but found this very moving. A timely reminder that politicians are human beings and should not be demonised when their views differ from yours. Ed’s so right when he says that caring for a loved one can be a deeply enriching experience even though it’s tough. ❤
Absolutely agree, but additionally politicians should not be demonstrating ordinary folk or opposition candidates for their differing views either. They need to lead by example.
This is absolutely fantastically honest and open. The best thing the Lib Dem’s have ever done. I’m a father of a disabled daughter (she is autistic). I remember the huge amount of time we played silly games etc etc etc to help her. This speaks volumes about the dedication and unseen commitment people make across the country for the people they care for and the lack of understanding there is about this
As the aunty of a disabled child, I fully agree, @oystercatcher 943. Sir Ed reminds me so much of my brother and I am so grateful he has shared his very personal experience.
Brilliant. I wholly support this message. Voted Lib Dem several times historically. Under a different system, you'd have my backing. You're always in consideration.
Really moving, it is likely that all of us at some point will be a carer, or cared for by somebody. It's so crucial that we had Ed standing up for us, and highlighting both the beauty of caring for somebody, but also the challenges it faces.
I’m not an LD supporter by any stretch and never have been but this is incredible. So moving and so tastefully done. So sorry to hear about Sir Ed’s parents I can’t even imagine what that would have been like.
Such a loving and tender father ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing I know first hand how difficult but also very rewarding it is to care for a child with disabilities ❤ God bless you ❤️🙏🏻❤️
@clivet3252 I don't understand why the Lib Dems get so much vitrol for Tory policies. A coalition government requires compromise for which the Lib Dems have paid a heavy price.
A moving and honest political broadcast. As a party which can struggle to get airtime, their campaign and tactics have been well thought through. A mix of whacky, thoughtfulness and honesty. I really hope the Lib Dems do well and regain their standing as a powerful party in the UK.
Mad respect for Ed Davey, it just shows what a caring person he is and as I and others know what hard work that is with little help from the government, it's good to see a politician sharing their personal story, thanks and wish you and the Liberal Democrats all the best in the election and become the official operation
Ed Davey does come across as a really genuine, caring man. I also know what it’s like to help care for a family member with severe disabilities and it gives me confidence that Ed is giving absolutely everything to make vulnerable people’s lives easier.
There is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then I would suggest you allow the Fourth of July to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me, and vote them out of Parliament, and together we shall give them a Fourth of July that shall never, ever, be forgot.
I mean, let's not forget it is still one of the most free and fair countries in global history. So we are doing some things right. But inequality currently seems to be heading in the wrong direction.
🧡 I'd love to see more videos like this focused on the whole Lib Dem team! They have a great leader in Ed, and there's so many other caring and worthy LD individuals who I'd love to know more about.
I always say that I'm not interested in personalities, it's policy that is important to me. But as a disabled person whose family collapsed, I can't deny how valuable this experience feels to me in a politician.
Thanks for sharing your story, Ed. I think it is really moving and so glad the comms team have changed tack from falling off paddleboards etc! I thought that made Ed look like a bit of a joke which he definitely isn't!
I wouldn't say it made him look like "a joke". It just made him look like a person who enjoys larking about sometimes. And that's not a bad thing in moderation. A person can be serious with a humorous tone. And vice verse, a person can be disingenuous in a solemn tone.
@@clivet3252 That comment barely makes sense. It may be a fair criticism. But I fail to see how the phrase "larking about" is connected to coalition politics.
A very honest politician. Something this country needs. I like that the Lib Dems are focussing on 60 odd seats, it makes sense, targeting. Forecast to win 45+ which is a great. Won't be too far behind the collapsing Tories.
Sir Ed is the most caring, kind, Compassionate and honest politician I have ever known since I first got interested in politics in the 1960s Given a chance he would make the best Prime Minister ever ❤🔶
@@clivet3252 So you prefer Sunak, Johnson, Rees-Mogg and Farage, yet you keep attacking Davey's role in the coalition. Sounds like you are a Tory troll.
I live and work in his constituency. Via work I've met him, he's a good man. I hear a lot of locals call him that. I never EVER thought I'd say I'd vote Lib Dem (usually one of those awful far left lot). But he's good for my area and community so...yep. He has my vote.
It is great that they are using this election campaign to shine a light on such important issues. As a carer myself, it is nice to feel represented and included. To feel appreciated for the role we play in society - as opposed to the carer's allowance scandal that is currently being investigated. Martin Lewis directly asked Jeremy Hunt about it and he dodged the question and started talking about child benefit. I don't know where the Tory party got the idea that they could just answer any difficult question with something unrelated, I'm so exhausted by it, I hope the results of this election campaign show them, and all politicians that we are not idiots and we can see right through that tactic - especially when it has been used ad nauseum.
Aww I really like Ed Davey, in my heart of hearts I am a Liberal Democrat it’s where my beliefs are best represented but in this election unfortunately I have to vote labour because of where i live and I’m frightened of letting the conservatives back in
I think you're probably right. Though I'd argue that to be a good leader you need to balance kindness with pragmatic effectiveness and the ability to take tough decisions. I'm not sure if the Lib Dems have enough of that tough pragmatism.
how amazing it is to have a political leader who has actually knows what carers are actually up against, with this personal experience he has the knowledge to know what government can practically do to help, no ideology but proper solid practical help
I will be proud to vote for the party led by this man on 4 July. Plus they are the most likely to beat the Tories here in this (previously) Tory safe seat - so win/win.
I’ve worked with Ed in government. He’s not only a really good man but an honest, sincere and a hard working one. I won’t be voting for him for policy reasons but if you’re on the fence between him and similar manifestos then you wouldn’t be wrong in trusting him, because unlike almost all of the rest, his intentions truly are good. All the best Ed may all the haribo fried eggs be yours 😉
Although I’ll be voting Labour, I genuinely wish Ed and the Lib Dems the best of luck. A properly decent party with some great policies, led by a decent man.
I think in our area, despite the surrounding town used to be Tory, but our village Lib Dem, thanks God. I believe you have a winning ticket there and I really hope you gain more seats than in the previous election! Wish the best of you and your loved ones!
Very moving. I think a mark of any society is how it looks after its people. The cynic in me thinks we’ve become more uncaring and more narcissistic, but I know there are lots of people out there who just quietly get on with helping others.
My bio: as you can see, we came “to Nottingham to be near our school” - I didn’t live in the Medders or up St Anns Well Road but in a leafy cul-de-sac in an architect designed bungalow, built for my uncle. Nottingham High School isn’t your bog standard local comprehensive of course but the top independent fee paying school for boys in the whole area. My family were fortunate enough to have enough money for all three of us to attend. Obviously a good school for politicians, where not only was I head boy but Ed Balls was a contemporary and Ken Clark attended a generation before. Just like us Eds, he also went to Oxbridge. Later, I became a minister in the coalition government. I did finally agree to meet Alan Bates in 2010, long before either of us was knighted, but I was one of those who didn’t ask penetrating enough questions to have stopped the Post Office scandal in its tracks.
“Nobody will be able to care for our son like we do”. No other party has been so clear on the need to create a fit for purpose national approach to care and support of carers. You will either need care in your life, or be a carer, or both.
Johnson, Trust, Braverman, Mogg..... compare and contrast. Very moving. We need more real people in politics and a lot fewer public schoolboys without a shadow of a clue.
Fabulous video - my dream would be that in every constituency where the Lib Dems were second last time to Tories the other progressive parties lend them their votes so that selfish toryism is defeated.
i am up in glasgow. so it’s a choice between labour and the snp. best of luck to the lib dems in the south. i hope the blue wall is destroyed. ed. you are an inspirational man.
in an election that feels frankly at this point what shade of tory would you like its nice to see a party trying to reform their image and offer a realistic opposition to what is going to be (in all likelyhood) a starmer supramajority, im still on the fence about who i will vote for in this one, its certainly not gonna be blue (not even once kids) nor shall it be starmers go with the tide mess, LD may have me one over lads, time will tell
Hang on Ed... You're leader of the Lib Dmes and a carer meaning if you can juggle the two so can the majority of people in this country. Thank you for proving this
He earns an MP's salary of around £100,000, most carers don't. Don't use this to say more help isn't needed for care - with a wealth tax to pay for it.
@@CarolinePicking yes i you're right. it is a very marginal seat here too. i just know that labour's plan to fully nationalise the railways will likely not go how most people (who have been going on about wanting it for years) think it will...
In the South and South West , where the Lib Dems are in second place, that is exactly what is happening. I live in East Sussex and both Eastbourne and Lewes are hard target seats for them. Lewes has a most unpleasant MP who has a poor voting record on important issues - her name is Maria Caulfield. She allows her religious beliefs to affect her decisions . She needs to be removed. Vote for James MacCleary, the Lib Dem candidate who is a good bloke.
@@Nooticus Nothing ever goes quite to plan! But choosing a party isn’t a marriage. You’ll never agree with everything. It’s actually like catching a bus - you choose the one that takes you nearest to where you would like to (see the country) go. 😀😘
Everyone is saying, "we want change". Well here are your options, people 1. Sunak - Investment Banker 2. Starmer - Barrister 3. Farage - City of London stockbroker, 4. Davey - economic researcher and Carer 5. Denyer - Green Energy professional 2 of these are not like the others. Put your money where you mouth is. If you want actual change, vote for something different
Nice and kind man he probably is, but it is not a popularity contest. He failed the post masters when it was his job to question why so many were being sued - his job was to make sure the post office was being run correctly. Just accepting the management line without delving deeper when it was obvious to all that something didn’t make sense, shows he is not fit to lead anything. Sad but true.
He was advised not to meet Alan Bates and chose not to do so, which he now admits was an error, then he decided to do so. He has since been a strong advocate for the sub-postmasters' case.
