I’m fairly certain I watched the same video. It also felt these same folks are coming out with gadgets in order to make money. What gets me most are those people who carry $500-$1000 worth of pocket dump.
This reminded me of a cool thing I heard some time ago: “the more you know, the less you carry, and knowledge weighs nothing.” Gear is cool and all but I like working with tools I actually use :)

Thanks very much for your update. Good stuff there. And thanks for all your reviews on gear. Your takes on things absolutely make a difference in what I consider buying. For my uses, I work from home so I don't need a whole lot, but my edc kit always has a knife, flashlight and wallet. Today I'm carrying a TRM Neutron 2 in blue denim micarta, an Olight S1R Baton II Ti, and my usual wallet an Open Sea Houbei 2.0. I don't find that I usually need any more items than that unless I go somewhere, then I definitely add a gun.
I EDC a similar set up. SAK Tinker, miniGriptilian knife, miniCobra pliers and an Olight M1T RaiderPlus. They are the minimum for my needs in a small and useful footprint. I really enjoy being the person who has tools when you aren't expecting to need tools. You made some wise choices with your gear.
Ok, ya got me. I am a 400 pound dude and I carry 10 pounds of gear every day (spread throughout my bib overalls). Now I do use my gear as often as the occasion arises (very often) but I admit that the gear is only as good as ones ability to make use of it and being a big fat guy is limiting. This is a good video and I thank you for just speaking the truth. Ya got me.
Great video the only thing I feel I need to comment on is carrying the pistol behind you back there is a risk you could break your back and be paralysed if you where to fall on it while it's up against your spine other than that it was great I love that you worried more about how trained you are with your pistol vs round count or having something more popular that's the right mind set if it works and you can use it affectively with confidence that's what counts keep up on these videos 👍 everything else great choices and logic behind them
I carry my s&w m&p 9mm compact 4" with a streamlight tlr-6 light laser combo, appendix carry with either an iwb or owb holster depending on where I'm going, 2 pocket knives, a couple fidget sliders, an olight mini pen, my phone which doubles as my wallet, and my inhaler. I'm good with that on the daily. Agree on Jerad, he's good people.
Health and fitness are the MOST important edc/prep. It’s such a game-changer… Jerad Neeves gets it, also the guy at “we all juggle knives” (he went from obese to jacked in his 40’s). I did the same in my late 30’s. Literally anyone can do this. If you can’t, there’s either something wrong with your diet, training or hormonal profile… all very fixable, if you take the initiative. I even have a woman friend who needed to micro-dose testosterone, starting in her 30’s. She’s more healthy than ever… it even helped with her insomnia and fibromyalgia.

I totally agree that people shouldn’t talk about steel if they don’t sharpen the knife themselves. I would want to know how easy it is to sharpen a steel or what grit works best, and if a review lacks that information I wouldn’t watch it. Also, I 100% agree that physical health is more important than anything. Part of your edc isn’t just the gear you carry but yourself, and the weight you carry. If you take care of your knives, clean and lube and sharpen them, then you should put that extra time into being healthy too! We should try to be well rounded, mentally and physically healthy people! The world will be better that way!
I feel what you're saying about sharpening and contributing to edge retention. I'm at a point where I can maje a knife sharp...but I can't make them pretty. I'm not at the point where I can achieve the mirrored and perfect symmetrical edge. I usually mess blades up after I get them sharp...by trying to take it farther. Lol. I assume it's part of the learning process. Until I can get there on a cheap knife...I'll send my expensive knives off to someone more experienced than myself. For a simple concept...there's nothing simple about sharpening a knife. Clamp systems...I've allowed these to set me back and disable my ability to understand what's really going on with an edge. I just did a video about how most people's EDC is total BS. Thank you for being true to yourself. And I would agree about half the videos you watch about bug out bags and get home bags etc, are made by people who probably couldn't walk a Walmart parking lot without being ready to pass out.

Thanks for showing and breaking down the details of your EDC. I'm more in the light side living in a big city, carrying just a SAK with scissors/ pliers, a small flashlight, field notes, a pen and a mechanical wristwatch.
it works, and what's important for me, not just to use my shit, but to maintain it like to keep my blades sharp. I 200% agreed with you that all this gear is just an extensions of your personal skills.
I enjoy Taylor Martin's videos. I think he does a good job of being honest and vulnerable about his experiences in life and we need more of that. A significant portion of the EDC community is just knife comicon. It's not unique to our community though. It's everywhere. People mistake information, self importance, and gear with knowledge, competence, and experience in all kinds of fields. If one more person in my life says that they did their own research and they know the real truth based on reading facebook posts I'm gonna spit.
A tool? I thought my knife is a fidget toy! Great detent and I swapped the bearings and it’s got Mars Valley Fat Carbon inlays! Seriously, I saw that video with the kid…disturbing. Some strange bonding going on over phallic symbols in their pockets. EDC has become an odd bonding thing, like golf. Practicality is secondary.
Yes.. he was just WAY too intense about it and those are the kids that tend to get obsessed with the war/shooting games, get infatuated with weaponry, and become dangerous with it. In my opinion.
I carry what I feel is a fairly normal load, especially for my work. I work security as a gate guard. I carry a Thrunite TN12 pro, Victorinox Tinker with dangler pocket clip, main folder (today a Demko AD20.5 sharkfoot textured titanium, rite-in-rain notepad with Civivi bolt action pen, citizen promaster nighthawk, and wallet. As far as firearm goes when at work I carry my 9mm Jericho 941 and off duty I carry Beretta 92X compact. I'm a big dude myself having been raised on a ranch and genetics but I could stand to lose 20 pounds. I practice bushcraft in my backyard and a few times a year in the mountains so come spring I need to extend my hike in and also take the 15 minutes to walk into town and back instead of the 3 to drive it.
Fake EDC! Love it. I mentioned on another video how happy it made me that you use your knives. Instead of all the shiny perfect specimens I see on RU-vid. But exactly. It's Boys wanting to show off their toys! I always say there's a few types of EDC. Us that carry tools. Things we use daily. And I admit I carry a small pocket clip ferro I obviously could live without. But I light my grills and smokers with it all the time. And it's for fun. And my fixed scout is more just because I enjoy it. Since I have a folder at all times. But it still gets used daily. But don't need it by any means. But there are the users who love being prepared. Having practical tools. Then there's thr knife collectors who would never scratch a blade and have some knick knacks. Then the boys with toys. People wanting to show off their expensive gear they spent too much money on. Then the bushcrafters/survivalist. Who use their stuff and camp a lot and spend time out in the wild. Who put their gear through the ringer when they get to. Then the prepper types as you said. Which blend in a lot with the tactical types. Wanna be weekend warrior conspiracy theorists. And we know where that leads. On a certain day one January. So there's a wide variety out there these days and a lot of it is for sure a trend that can cover a wide variety of people far left to far right. But getting to your point. Because of that, youtubes algorithm can lead you down one of the wrong rabbit holes so easily! Its funny until you see children in Kevlar! Lol. Very nice carry and all very useful. I go the mace route but glad you carry if you've had 6 instances you needed to brandish. I have a lot of little extras, but. Good folder. Fixed scout. SOG powerpint. Victoranox SD. Streamlight. Little fun ferro. Good pen (disposable) and Feild Notes. Zippo, sometimes torch insert. Generic Ridge. Watch. Bandana. It's a perfect little load out that is all well used. I did add a little hip bag lately and have to admit I love it. The Powerpint can take hex bits so put some bits and a little ratchet thing I had that works with it. A charger. And its small. Never even notice it. Knipex are so great but have good pliers on the multi. If I might need something that would require a channel lock then thats def the way to go that day.
I would like to point out that there is a discernable amd respectable difference between the prepper types and the tactical guys. Guys that served and have seen some real shit. And have that as part of their being. And then the people who play pretend. Just didn't want to accidentally group those two types together.
I like your carry gear. I recently ordered the surefire titan. I know what you mean about preppers being fat and carrying nonsensical gear. It's a serious issue. Your best prep is your mindset and your fitness.
I enjoyed this very much bc I also conceal carry my Glock 42 and usually a Mini Griptillian as a senior citizen who is married and doesn’t wish to see my wife or myself become a victim of crime or violence I agree with your premise about the prepper clubs as I would call them who tend to overload with weapons on their persons and or wear attire that attracts attention to their weapon fetishes Being elderly and on meds and having been injured I can no longer run but I am still very strong and do all I can to stay in good shape even though I have to take meds This might disqualify me according to your broad brush that you painted ppl with who shouldn’t be carrying but I feel that my need outweighs my shortcomings in full health I hope you take that into consideration too Everyone has the right to defend one’s own life We never give that up Yes they are acting like goofs but they have rights and so do you and I Love You

I know exactly what video you are talking about. That kid made me think the same thing. I think these people wear gear to those types of gatherings just to show it to others. I’d bet money they carry a fraction of it daily
Yes. I agree. But I think the obsessiveness is outta hand at times. And that child being there carrying handcuff keys etc to try to fit in made me uncomfortable. Like you are 12- why are you carrying a handcuff key... Seems like strange behavior!
Yep, totally agree. I watched the video the whole way through but that part is where they lost me. He reminded me of kids I knew in high school who just wanted to pretend they were in the military. And the rest of the people for the most part were from knife retailers which makes it feel disingenuous
The people you talk about have been a part of the EDC community for a very long time. They find solace in the gear that they have an it makes them happy. I like to refer to their loaded bags and packs as their "woobies". Hell that is what I refer to my daily sling pack...LoL. But I also see fit in shape folks making a lot of poor decisions when it comes to gear. A video I saw not to long ago had this guy that looked be in great shape that had a 40-50 lbs bug out bag which I felt didn't address a lot of factors that he missed like his environment, the people he was with and had a lot of gear he did not need or could have opted for a less expensive and more effective options. I mean he had a spare pair of shoes, change of clothes, MREs with a cook set (which doesn't make any sense) and a water kit no plan to gather water (he lived near the desert) or water ready for him to take with him. Even the most fit guys will not last in the desert hauling 50lbs of gear without water. I find that EDC is a personal journey and its about incorporating useful stuff to get through your daily life. I mean most of us did not have an EDC or realize we had one until some coined the name. I've traveled around the world and have observed how other folks get a long in their daily lives and tasks. All I can say is that living in a country in which we are able to have what we have, we are fortunate. If someone doesn't have a knife I have seen folks in the jungle take steel from old dilapidated cars and make tools like knives to accomplish daily tasks. The Philippines is notorious for having backyard gunsmiths build functional quality firearms out of old ship metals. There is always someone that will look at someone else and judge but we have to be careful when we make pass judgement. What that person lacks in fitness he might make up in knowledge or a skill. What I am saying is to each their own, just because people aren't equipped or ready for action that is their cross to bear. No one is perfect and being part of community is saying that everyone has a place even the gear junkies that have too much gear for their own good.
Yeah when someone does a pocket dump and they're overweight and 3/4 of it is fidget toys and $300 beads...I'm out lol I carry a decent amount of stuff but I work in manufacturing and it comes in handy
I carry a large sebenza and a Swiss Army knife on my person everyday and a spirit X in my truck and a Dawson raider fixed blade in my back pack that sums it up
Long time conceal carry person here, carrying your pistol in the back is not a good idea. Learned that from a retired detective, if you were jumped on from the front or tripped and fall on your back accessing your pistol then becomes very problematic. I carry from the side to the appendix style carry.

I definitely know the video you are talking about haha I was thinking the same thing but theres one guy that has a knife store and I've met him in person. But then they never go places that are more than like a 2 day walk from a city. You don’t need arrow heads to make a primitive bow for hunting when you can walk to a town lol
I think you could strengthen your argument by making a video about the minimum skills someone should have before they start hiding fishhooks in their Red Sox caps. I have noticed too that some people take “EDC” way too far. I only ever carry what I need when I will need it if I can. I own a house with a basement and a garage so to me carrying around a multi tool or a pair of pliers when I’m chilling or just going to the grocery store seems silly. If I’m working on something that’s totally different.

What about the knife 'reviewers' that don't even know how to cut paper to try and demonstrate the blades sharpness. The same ones that complain about blade steel and don't even know how to sharpen their own knives. Now , imagine these 'reviewers' partnering with pure evil (and our biggest enemy) and 'designing' knives. 🤔🤔🤔
