I watch this from New Zealand where I moved my family to because as a carpenter I knew my family would never have a fair shout no matter how hard we worked. Last week I put my son onto a plane to Canada because he got chances I never could have dreamed of in the UK. He’s not going to be knocking his bollox of for very little like I got used to. I now listen to this and I ask “how much longer will the British people allow there kids to be used as donkeys for the rich and powerful?” Believe me world is different and better outside your borders, so stand up and be counted. Through my mums hard work many’s years later we got everything we needed. When I was big enough to work I became a Window cleaner and helped my mum pay the rent . This is what we need. A ground-up movement that supports public services, that fights for the people and has the courage to take on the slimy curs who've dissected our country for their own profit.

A rousing speech by Eddie which is so so needed , reminded me of Tony benn , but my question is why has the working man left it so late to act ? There is so much poverty , homelessness , suffering and hardship , it feels like it's too late as the damage is already done .

We DO need to send a very clear message to the government that they are elected to do the best for us all, they are not elected to rule us. I agree with most of what has been said, but I must take issue with one thing. I'm 68, working class, never had a job with a proper pension scheme. Like everyone else of my age, we were told to get on our bikes, get a job & save for our retirement, I did. After a lifetime working 60 or more hours a week, I am now retired. During my working life, having brought up 4 children, money was tight. I couldn't afford to buy a posh new house, what I purchased needed major works, which I did much of by myself at the weekend & in the evenings after work. Along the way I managed to buy an old Co-op building, it too was in a poor state of repair. Over time I converted it into 3 flats and a small shop, it was an investment in my future. The flats are of a high standard, highly insulated to above building regs, centrally heated & double glazed. I keep my rents low, (duplex 1.5 bed flat £450pcm) I prefer not to have to keep finding tenants which is why I haven't increased rents in 6 years . My tenants have become friends, all repairs are carried out promptly, all gas & electric certificates are automatically carried out by a company who simply bill me. I'm a good landlord, I care about my tenants which is why I won't be increasing rents at this difficult time. So you may understand how upsetting it is to hear the same old trope that landlords are all crooks. We are not ! The media is good at portraying only the worst tenants & landlords. It's wrong. Private landlords fill the gap which every government has left, the government are crooks not me. Attacking good landlords is crazy, we are highly regulated, provide a needed service. There will always be bad landlords & tenants, that's people. But to assume that everyone could afford or want to buy a house if landlords disappeared is wrong. Quite frankly housing associations are the worst offending landlords, they regulate themselves.
