If I’m not mistaken, on that day, nobody pulled more than 465kg. And it was a tough lift. Then Eddie comes in and speed reps it, breaks his own record, then goes above and beyond and pulls 500kg with even more in the tank. That was absolutely insane. One of the greatest if not the greatest strongman to ever live!

Because 500kg was the next weight after 465kg. Other athletes were suggesting 480kg but the competition was tailor made for Eddie so they put 500kg. Jerry also said in an interview that Eddie rested almost 30 mins for that lift and Benny and Jerry were forced to wait for almost 45mins for their lifts in which they were already cooled down. The rule was always 15 mins rest but since it was tailor made for Eddie, they don't care about others that much.

Favorite lift of all time! For multiple reasons. First, because he didn't break the record by a kilo or 2 like him and Benny had been doing back and forth for a couple years. He set a milestone goal no one thought was possible. Secondly, because he did it the first time he tried it! Yes, Thor pulled it easier, and I'm almost positive he could have done more, but that wasn't the first time he tried, and he add multiple years of training. Yes, Thor's lift was stronger, but to me, Eddie's was better.

@@joshbrooker5819 it is convenient, in a stadium with thousands of people that arena was probably hot as hell, you have less or more time to wait between lifts, and of course the tension of just being there. @joshbrooker5819

@@Silky_boi Thor had a strict 15 minute rest period because it was live streamed on ESPN. It was literally released in the rule post before his lift. You all act like it was som random gym lift with no rules, it wasn’t. It was stricter than Eddie’s lift, factually. He had half as much rest exactly as Eddie who rested for as much time as he needed, came out every half an hour to lift because he wasn’t part of the main competition so wasn’t constrained to lifting with the other competitors. He was allowed to lift when he liked. He also dictated the weight jumps and brought his own bar & platform. As per, like most Eddie fans, you’ve done zero research on the topic 🤦🏼‍♂️

At the end of the day a WR is a WR. We know Thor break the deadlift for 1KG and his effort were formidable. But you have to understand that Eddie in that day *already broke the WR Deadlift* pulling 465KG off the floor and a few minutes later he pulled the greatest lift in human history being already fatigue. Pulling +35KG on top of a WR you already broke the same night has never happened in ALL strength sports. This is the reason I believe most people credit Eddie Hall to still be the record holder and Deadlift King. Not even mentioning his physical disadvantage between Top 10 Strongmen stats he competed with. A true BEAST

The exact same thing applied to Shivlyakov breaking the masters deadlift record around the same time. No one disputes that lift because they don't have a vendetta like with this. Speaking of competitions, Eddie's 'comp' was a farce set up entirely for him with his deadlift bar, his conditions, his weights picked by himself and Benny and Jerry there to make it look like a comp and not a one man show. No, he wasn't at all! Eddie was only there to lift the 500 kilos. The first event of the competition was the deadlift. He never intended to be in the rest of the competition.

What gets me is that 3 years after Thor (easily) lifted 501kg (apparently)he hasn't attempted anything heavier. Perhaps it's because we're not in lock down now and he has no excuse for having to do it in his own gym. A fact which always gets him angry when questioned about it.

Incredible lift, big respect to Eddie Hall. The aftermath shows just how superhuman Thor actually was in his prime, beating the 500KG WR easily and walking away like it is nothing. Truly incredible moments, this is why I love strongman!

@@mgrimble3975 The thing is I am fully aware that Eddie Hall did something incredible, I do not deny that at all. This is the problem with this debate, it seems some people think that because the record was broken it makes Eddies achievements smaller, which is not true. Thor was just on another level and beat the record very convincingly, it was also technically a much cleaner pull. And in all honesty I think no one denies that Thor could have gone higher than 501KG.

@@mgrimble3975 That was Thor’s way of trolling Eddie’s 2017 WSM win by one point. That’s the WSM that’s led to a beef between the two. Where Thor argued that he had done the same amount of Viking presses as Eddie, but the judges ruled otherwise. Eddie won that WSM by a point, therefore, Thor took the deadlift record by 1 kilo.
@AdamA-qc6nc
@AdamA-qc6nc Год назад
@@mgrimble3975 Such a stupid argument to make. The only way that would be relevant would be if Thor trained solely for deadlift since 2016. Since Eddie pulled 500kg, Thor got another 4 WSM podiums, winning one. Won another 3 ESM titles, won WUS, won the Arnold 3 times in a row, all on top of the titles he already had. Also, he already broke one of Eddie's deadlift records in the elephant bar in 2018 and pulles 474kg on that bar suitless for a speed rep. Don't pretend he spent all that time trying to beat a record.

I think a lot people miss the point of all of this when we get into the Thor vs. Eddie argument for deadlift supremacy. By doing the 500, Eddie brought the standard up by unbelievable margins and proved SO many people wrong. The previous record was more than 30 kg below that and there were so many people (even people close to Eddie) who were talking sh*t about Eddie’s chances in the months leading up to the lift. He also did it in front of an entire arena of people whereas Thor did it in his home gym surrounded mainly by his friends and family. I don’t care what you say, that has very big psychological impact on the lifter (anyone who has performed I front of a crowd can attest to this). When Thor lifted the 501, he proved that he was a better deadlifter in terms of overall strength and capability. You can definitely argue that both of them were capable of more on the day of their lifts but Thor looked a lot smoother and even had a slight disadvantage being half a foot taller than Eddie and had to pull the bar much farther. But at that point, expectations about pulling 500+ kg were a lot more optimistic than they were when Eddie did the 500. Eddie had already raised the bar and proved it was possible to pull 500 kg. No one was doubting Thor in same way they were doubting Eddie. I think with how good Thor was looking at his peak, almost everyone was pretty certain that he could do it. Therefore in my opinion, Thor was definitely a stronger deadlifter and arguably a better strongman overall when they were both at their peaks, but Eddie’s lift is still by far the more impressive one. His had more significance and was far more impactful than Thor’s. Credit to both of these guys for what they accomplished during their lifetimes and glad they have at least agreed to disagree when it comes to their past beef.

I still thought Eddie had written a cheque he couldn't cash then it went up and the crowd went absolutely mental. Took two non-strongman fans and they probably still have no idea they witnessed something so monumental.

"MY OPINION" I've watched alot of eddies video's, I watched the video where he talks about the lift and the aftermath of it. He explains that he was at a physical limit and couldn't push his body anyfurther. So instead of training physically he trained mentally, and created this scenario in his head that was AWFUL the worst KIND of TERRIBLE. Eddie then convinced him self that it would come true if he "failed" to lift that 500kg. He even says it himself he spent hours in the bathroom just mentally terrifying himself to the point it was literally life or death "IN HIS MIND". I honestly think they could have thrown another 15 to 30 KG's and the result would have been the same. (I don't think we'll ever know) he basically triggered the fight or flight instinct to give him access to "ALL 100%" of his strength the same way a 130lb woman, lifts a car off of her trapped child that she normally couldn't budge.

By far the greatest lift ever. Yea, Thor "beat" it, whatever. That doesn't mean anything. But also don't forget Eddie nearly died from this. He pushed himself close to his absolute limits for this lift. I think he could have done more, but it probably wouldn't have ended well for him. He's still the Beast, and the best! And just think, 6 years later and The World Deadlift championship only got 476kg! Nobody came close to this.

@@youtubeconnollyfamily It’s a WR for lifting 500kg, not a WR for lifting 500kg in competition. As simple as that. Thor’s lift was objectively heavier and, therefore, he pulled the weight with more strength. People always find more excuses to discredit Thor’s lift when it was done in a single ply suit and in competition conditions whereas Eddie had as much rest as he wanted. 501 kg > 500 kg = Thor > Eddie.
