In my opinion Jimi changed the way the electric guitar was played forever.

Nah. Hendrix and his imitators stand apart from most guitar since. Can't say he inspired EVH or Malmsteen. In my opinion, Hendrix was one of the best songwriters and song arrangers (on his guitar), and that's what makes him important. Guitar technique is always secondary. The song has to be there.

Jimi Hendrix was so far ahead of the game he's still not been surpassed. Never will be either imho. Peace. Rx

@@KingKull1971 Hendrix's not what everyone says he is. Just because of easy songs with wah pedals like Star Spangled Banner or Voodoo Child, people think he's a god. He's not. He was good, but IMO he's not even in my top 20 favorite guitarists. I do enjoy his music but he is too overrated.

I saw Jimi and dropped out of high school to get a factory job and buy a Strat and Marshall with effects. There is so much hype about Jimi as a musician as being the best when he was innovative with effects. I'm not taking away anything he did as a song-writer or improvising musician, but he wasn't a jazz player. If you feel lost with the kind of emotions and moods all the studio productions put together for you, try McCoy Tyners' "Echoes of a Friend" to hear "Naima", a solo acoustic piano journey of immense depth. That's the next step for any Jimi fan, finding your own instrumental voice as a jazz player.

I too appreciate Eddy Crammer's work in Rock n Roll. Like Jimi Hendricks, he was and is the top of his field. Thanks for the music Eddy.

Hendrix and those guys were just first to do what they did he set the standard of that rock blues genre at the time. I think there are some great guitar singer/guiatrist guys like Philip Sayce, Joe Bonammassa, the mainstream doesn't value guitarist in the same way it did back then. Its a different scene now.

Johnk H%100 Wankery, iz just 1 azzpect of it all. Bcause of da "xpansive" time period, n which Jimi lived, his xtended wankery, wuz applauded & 4 good reason. @ least da man mite ntertain, while displaying technical prowess, or he mite just amaze, by playin sumthim wit his teeth, I'm still tryin 2 learn 50 yearz later, BUTT da new crop, usually just wank-off. No show. No good tunez. Same blistering scalez, azz 5 otha top guitarist. Eddie Van Halen, did a good job, of keeping everything, @ an even keel. ( 2 good of a job! )

Holy Fuck.... I remb. a better time when there were NO cellphones to record videos on the fly, however I'd make this ONE exception to have been able to watch these two square off trying to one up the other! ...No one around Kramer even bothered to ask who jad won - they already knew!

He's right about vinyl. I got a set up in my place that has a CD player, MP3 player and a record player all going through the same system, same speakers, and I can play for you the same song, for example "Love me like a rock" by Paul Simon, the CD version, the MP3 version and the vinyl version the vinyl just utterly utterly blows away the CD and MP3 in terms of quality. Even music on a DVD, there is just no comparison whatsoever in terms of quality. Vinyl for some reason, maybe because it's analog, makes the music sound like a live band is playing in your place while something is definitely lost in the digital version. That's one of the worst things to ever happen to recorded music was this whole digital scene, it's never been the same. And what's funny when you play music you know that was recorded digitally, if they transferred it to vinyl the vinyl sounds just as bad as say the CD or Mp3. Digital just sucks all balls, it really does.

For all people around the globe, if someone says something like this on music industry, there's this person doing this weird stuff blabla, go and check it..Jaco Pastorious the bass genius once was referred as such, so we once every century will be showed some of this, for me weird means in some instances genius like Hendrix and Jaco were, so never doubt someone that wanna try something different on music spectrum and push the boundaries!!

Randy, the older he gets, the more spot-on his playing is to what Jimi sounded like. But ya, Randy is the closest thing we have to Jimi today. And as time goes on and new generations come up, there will certainly be more Hendrix clones to come before its all over.
