I agree . I love Eddie Murphy. Im such a huge fan of that man. BHCop1 was released when I was just like 5 yrs old but I watched it with my parents I was hooked from the start and I knew I would support him from then on out and I have. I have majority of his films on bluray and I still have the original VHS tapes of BHCop 1,2, and 3 but I no longer have a vcr though ha.

Dave was also uncomfortable. Eddie was able to make fun of Dave; usually it was Dave who made fun of people. But Dave had to put up with it. There were some women who could tease Dave, but not many men.

I love behind the scenes shit like this. Thanks for sharing. I was going to google "Dust to Dust" just to see if anything happened to it. Nowadays it's almost impossible to "hand off" a script as the gatekeepers warn their clients and stars to never accept unsolicited material due to fear of copyright infringement lawsuits. Eddie either didn't know or care back then. Example: Eddie politely accepts unsolicited script from neighbor/poolboy/driver/stranger on the street. Eddie reads said script and a: tosses in trash, b: forwards to studio, etc. Another script with coincidentally similar plotline (happens more often than you might think) gets made/produced that is completely unrelated to first script. Movie is successful and studio/Eddie gets sued for copyright infringement because plaintiff (Eddie's neighbor) proves that Eddie and studio had access to their original script. Studio/Eddie has to pay neighbor millions of $$$ for settlement. Not saying it happens all the time but the studio attys have put the kibosh on unsolicited submissions. It's amazing that Farrelly Bros were able to get through to Eddie. After this segment on Letterman, Eddie was probably inundated with everyone with a half baked script, song or dream of becoming famous/rich.

Eddie said that he grew up in Roosevelt Long Island. This is where Howard Stern grew up also. Howard stern went to the same high school as Eddie Murphy but he was older. They went to Roosevelt high school.Howard said that he was the only white kid in the school

Couldn’t agree more .. it’s been a pleasure to grow up watching him most of my life .. I hope they do an update on his newer stuff since he returned to main stream.. coming 2 America , DOLEMITE .. etc.. I took him for granted after his string of terrible family based movies .. and was blown away when he came out with Dolomite.. probably one of his best and funniest movies he’s made in decade plus

There's always people who dislike without watching. I love this collection, it shows how naturally funny Eddy is. But Eddies early stand up had jokes about gay people and hitting women which might account for the "auto- dislikes".

@Mastema Its rubbish. Its a Dudley Moore movie that was so bad that they hired Eddie Murphy to film some scenes to save the movie. It didn't work.

For anyone who didn't know this: The improvements made were largely in televisions and broadcasting signals. The reason why it looks so bad is because it has been recorded from a television onto a tape of some sort, probably VHS. If you look at movies that were recorded twice as far back in time you will notice that they are crystal clear most of the time. That's because the cameras and film that they were recorded on were top notch even back then. The hazy, grainy, discoloured look came when they were broadcast to television.

Eddie definitely called him out for it and he wasn’t wrong. I don’t think it was entirely racist but it had racial undertones along with Eddie only being 23 the first time he was on. Dave surely was looking at him as “new money” and probably thought the hype would fizzle out on him. So maybe he was curious to see if he’s blowing all that money. The last thing he said to the guy when Eddie ran out in the first clip is “that’s a lot of money”.

Lee, I think if Dave is honest with himself and he probably is, he'd look back at this stuff and fully acknowledge having an issue the way he'd go on about Eddie's money and Oprah's money and Cosby's money. We were collectively a lot dumber about this stuff back then and not listening too closely. I mean, Eddie drops more than a few hints over multiple appearances to Dave (and Carson too for that matter) about his dislike of such questions before finally letting loose with the negrophile rebuke.

But, watching all these early interviews back to back, you can see where Eddie was coming from. Johnny Carson did it to him too. I cringe to see it now.
