@@jasonhorvath9883 Honestly, you can't really measure muscial talent because it is like comparing oranges with apples. Music is something that is subjectively enjoyable for everyone. Unless you mean that Joe plays better techinquely, which may be, but that doesn't make him "better" at guitar necessarily. Each have their own style.
Even at this stage, you can still see the passion in the eyes every time he looks up at the audience. It always was there. Just a good dude and a guitar. All he ever wanted to do was make some noise.
He got even smoother as he got older. He was freaking 60 for God's sake!!! Imagine him at that age walking into a guitar center and nobody knows who he is until he picks up a guitar and starts going off. Would of been priceless...
That would’ve been Epic! 😂🤘🏻 Imagine being that guy at the Tool concert that asked Eddie to take a picture of him in front of the stage not knowing who he just handed his camera to. Only to find out months later in the comments section on RU-vid 😂
To have grown up when Eddie arrived to the world was a privilege, a guy who built his own guitar with one pickup a volume control and played it like this is nothing short of genius, there will never be anyone like it again, the greatest there’ll ever be, rock on Eddie🤘🏻your sadly missed.
Nah their very last show was on 10/4/15. The soundboard and video are on RU-vid, they played smoke on the water in the middle of dance the night away lmao.
yeah, he can play the most boring repetitive atonal random crap cobbled together all yo want to see him smilingly stroke his long thang at you, you give all your money to see that...........
To be a man in the music industry that started a movement, saved a genre, created so many bands, and was an idol to millions is still an understatement. Eddie...you were a gift to our ears, entertainment, and gone too soon. An icon and still one of the greatest of all time in history 🤘🤘👏👏👏
23 days after Eddie passed, our daughter was born 5 weeks preemie… named her Haelyn and she’s a little spitfire too! Proud to tell everyone who we named her after❤️ feel some how her amazing spirit will be just one more of the millions of ways the name and legacy carries on! She’s almost 3… already got her electric guitar and amp waiting for her! ❤
The Problem is the People of Today Practice a little Guitar and Play some Pseudo Trash Solos and Think they are better then a living Legend who changed the Music History and Industry.
Watching this is a Religious Experience to me. His soul and guitar in perfect sinc. I am so happy to have witnessed the Van Halen carter. When I heard Jamie's Cryin. I knew he was a force but Eruption??? He was better than any one I've heard in a while. Thank you EVH. In a hundred years from now your name will be as precious and rellivent as Mozart and Hendrix. God only touches a few with great abilities, Michael Jordan,Kobe, SRV...R.I.P. Eddie.
It’s hard to believe that this would be the last time he’s playing this in front of a crowd... And he’s even shining on this video. RIP Eddie Van Halen (1955-2020)
@@bobjackson3063 For a Rolling Stones fan I'm sure they'd love it. From your comment, I'm guessing you're not the biggest fan of Van Halen or perhaps just Eddie. I am a big fan of their older stuff (was in my teens and then into my 20"s for 1970-1980, perfect age for that time,IMHO) and I could watch Eddie just improvise on his guitar for hours. I think what he's showing here is that he still has what it takes to play one of the hardest solos he or anyone came up with almost 40 years later! Did he do some fucked up things with some of the band member's? Yes!! But he is and always has been an AWESOME Guitar Player!!
No one other than Eddie has really got this style down. They always sound rigid in some way, but Eddie makes it sound so smooth. The guy is phenomenal.
2 YEARS AGO OUR BELOVED AND RESPECTED EDWARD VAN HALEN LEFT US, LEAVING US A VERY DIFFICULT VOID TO FILL, WITH HIS CHARISMATIC ATTITUDE AND HIS BRILLIANT CREATIONS WITH THE GUITAR LIKE A MAGICIAN, HE GAVE US THE BEST OF HIS WORK, I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT IN 1982, MY RESPECTS TO HIS FAMILY, HIS TEAM AND ABOVE ALL TO ALL HIS FANS AROUND THE WORLD. GOD BLESS YOU EDDIE !!!!!!!
I agree with galinettto netto., Eddie might have some cool catchy licks... but's there's just no way technically he's in the range of Malmsteen or Satriani. Malmsteen is the bar ...and I'd bet even Eddie would admit it.
Yes I always loved Cathedral(Diver Down) and managed to freeze the volume pot on my vintage 64 Strat while trying to get it right after about fifteen minutes
There will NEVER be another one like him. The tears are rolling every time I watch him solo. That tone.. That fretwork.. And ALWAYS smiling. You gotta love Eddie, how can you not? I miss him sooo much - still can't believe he is gone. The world just ain't the same anymore. Dammit man...
Thanks 4 Your comment 👍 Legacy RIP 🙏 EVH we ♡ your music *2020* & 2 every1 who talks talks @ EVH smokin.. Pls speak well of those who pass .. EVH ~RIP ☆goat☆ Legend & His music ! @🚬 WTF.. Everyone's got an opinion these days Thanks of Facebook Twitter And all the others .. Wow that things we could do they could use our technology in a positive way and as far as smoking? Well that's another legal product! n the government's the culprit.. n I bet If He EVH could, he would light one up right now! in fact let me do it and light one up .. just did How ever I may agree it is a nasty habit .. To each his own ... Hey Too many opinionated ppl.. Thanks sorry technology And I may be one of them because I had to speak out RIP ☆2020 sucks and here's to all you opinionated F*ckS 🚬 🙏 🚬 RIP 🙏 EVH *2020*
He knew music theory... WTF are you talking about? He's playing Bach progressions while he's tapping! Are you thinking of Jimi Hendrix? EVH was a classically trained pianist. You don't get that title without music theory.
Since the 2021 Grammy Awards show did not properly honor the late, great Eddie Van Halen....His fans truly honor him for changing the course of Rock & Roll and influencing musicians all over the world!
The grammy awards are bullshit anyway. Them honouring him would mean nothing. Half the people at the grammy awards probably didn’t know anything about vh. The honour comes from us fans. Who watch his videos and listen to his songs and think “rip eddie you were truly an icon” every time we hear his beautiful playing. That means more than a few hundred pop and rap stars acting like they’ve listened to any of his discography
When I clicked I got sad because it didn't sound as... Shreddy... But then as I watched it got better. A legend never dies. Rest in peace Eddie. Greatest god damn shredder of all time. I bet all of us who never saw a concert would die to see a EVH concert.
This is classic EVH. Period. Ed looks great, seems to be enjoying himself. We are lucky to be able to see this in such great quality. Life is good! Haters wanting Ed to do something else? What ever!
I had a sort of band in a small town when Eddie was first being played on the radio and television friends and I were looking at each other saying how the hell is this man making guitar make the sound he was pulling out of it.Still amazing to hear and see till this day!!!! RIP EVH
Hendrix was amazing, but Eddie was THE best. No one on our planet will ever reach this level. We will all miss you, thank you for gracing us with your presence.
The world was in shock when they released their first VH album in 1978. Today you find shredders at every corner, but in '78 this was innovative and new. No one had heard something this extraordinary since Jimi Hendrix was around.
Saw them on their first tour in 78 in Birmingham, AL. It was a Journey/Montrose/Van Halen concert and they opened. Their first album had just come out and they played all of the songs off of that album in order. Running With the Devil was the only song on the radio at that time. Opening with Eruption had everyone's jaws on the floor. Montrose and Journey were kind of anti-climatic after Van Halen.
Inge Kvam There may be a lot of shredders around, but they all sound homogeneous. Eddie has a unique sound and style of his own that nobody quite duplicates. When you hear Eddie, you know it’s him. He is melodic in his shredding, all the notes come together in a very musical way whereas most shredders just throw out as many notes as fast as possible. EVH is the man!🤘🏻
before Hendrix there was a guy called Lonnie Mack who was doing things in 1962 that absolutely blew guitar players minds. He was the first to raise the bar on how good you could play electric guitar
Growing up during the early to late 70s I remember everyone was listening to Kiss my older brother brought home the first Van Halen album it blew my mind, and I remember playing this album for all of my friends and blowing there minds. What a great time to be a meathead.
Wow, he's gotten through it all, everything he's had to deal with and gone through with his drinking, cancer and the man is sounding and playing better than he ever has at what his late 50's now? This isn't about comparing this man to other guitar players or who likes who better, it's an appreciation of a masterful talent doing "his own thing" with all his heart and soul with technical precision and a love of music and his guitar, "this was impressive" flawless inspiring and powerful and hats off to Eddie!!
Man, why did he have to pass away. Ever since I heard eruption I picked up a guitar and decided this is what I want to do, and here I am now and all my friends are jealous of me. Thanks Eddie you inspired so many people to play guitar and even pioneered the tapping thing, I do it everyday cause of how fun it is. Again thanks Eddie, now go play a loud concert in the afterlife.
Eddie forever changed how everyone would view the electric guitar and that there were no boundaries that couldn't be broken...and right up until the very end Eddie was expanding those boundaries of what could be done on this wonderful instrument called the guitar...🎸🎸🎸
His playing is raw and brutal. I can tell his hands must be very strong. That’s one of the things that young (and very talented) guitar players in RU-vid do not get. Just see the way he plays. It’s not just about nailing “Beat It”. See how grounded and confident he is. He’s like 65 but and yet his playing is fierce.
Robbie McLean Him and his brother Alex both are saved by Jesus now PRAISE THE LORD IN JESUS NAME AMEN . Actually I think Alex is a minister in JESUS NAME AMEN PRAISE GOD IN JESUS NAME AMEN 🙏🏻✝🎸😇
Looks like hes playing a guitar thats been tossed in the attic years ago, dusts it off - and fresh sound that now plays like it came from heaven is heard. First time watching this. Thank you.
Never thought I would have to say this in my lifetime. DAMNIT! RIP Eddie! You are by far one of the greats and ultimate pioneer. Even though you are gone, your legend and music will indefinitely last FOREVER!
I never heard someone make there guitar sound like a violin. That was some of the best playing I have heard. And with a guitar that looks like it’s been through war.
That's funny you say that.....Rolling Stones magazine interviewed Jimmy Page in 1987. He even mentioned Eddie as a trailblazer for modern electric guitar. This isn't a comparison video you rocket scientist. It's a video showcasing EDDIES STYLE AND TALENT. Undeniable to everyone except you because we all know you are the utmost authority on the electric guitar. What a moron.
Mh R obviously you know nothing of guitar playing. Try listening to yngwie Malmsteen. The true master. Fuck this punk. Basic shit with an upbeat tempo. Big fucking deal.
Greatest guitarist. Greatest band ever created!! The ORIGINAL Van Halen.. I was born in 67 (55 now) and I used to listen to Van Halen every single day to and from school on my Walkman Cruisin my beach cruiser in So, Cal.. man was I cool!! Or atleast I thought I was LMAO!! Van Halen was such a huge part of my childhood growing up, I dint care what anyone says, this man right here is still the greatest guitarist to ever touch a guitar and I still can’t believe Eddie Van Halen is no longer with us. RIP Eddie!! Love you Brutha!! You’re sooooooo missed. 😢😢🙏♥️♥️👍
@lowerthanaslave You might be right, but not by a large margin. In this video, he's old, has cancer, (probably doesn't know it yet) and is playing at close to his peak performance. He isn't my favorite guitarist of all time, but I can't name any other guitarist whose talent has held up for so many decades, except perhaps for Roy Clark or Glenn Campbell.
It’s sad because of now in the present he suffers from tinnitus (I think that’s how u spell it) and it’s an ongoing irritation. But i love what this man did for our ears instead of benefiting his ears. I don’t think anyone will ever stop being inspired by this man. Love for the strings🙌🏻
Why quit? Theres only 1 EVH, you'll probably never be as good as him, but use him as motivation. Playing guitar in your room, by yourself is the best form of self conscienceness. You learn alot about yourself. Don't be a quitter! Get back in there and pick up that ax and play away brotha!
I love Eddie. Lots of classical melody here. Remember his Dad was a classical musician. This is who this man is. He once said he would never play the guitar again because he was way in to the key board. Glad to see Eddie showing the world just how he changed the world.
God has Blessed this Great Man with Superior Musician Ability….Eddie and his brother Alex could play any kind of music, including Classical…. We have lost one of the World’s best Ever Musicians Maybe the BEST GUITAR 🎸 PLAYERS EVER!!!!!! Thank You Mr. Edward Van Halen for all of your music…..The world Has been Blessed with people like you….
He doesn't admit to 'inventing' anything. But he did do rhythm and solo work in a band, while writing music... none of which is 'easy'. So, no... he's not "just a fast player". People don't love EVH because of his speed, it's because ... well, you wouldn't understand.
3.9K people gave this a thumbs down?! WTF? His smile alone & the pure joy he exudes on stage is enough for a thumbs up! And then masterful guitar playing...Come on!!!! ❤🎸
