I was here with my son in the 2nd row, directly in front of Wolfgang. Awesome concert as it lightly rained all night. Although I never met EVH, I can't explain but he took a piece of me when he died. I'm sure everyone who admired him has felt this way. Must be the realization that life doesn't last forever. Forever in our hearts Eddie, we all thank you for the great memories.
"Although I never met EVH, I can't explain but he took a piece of me when he died." That's a symptom of brainwashing. it's not normal or healthy to worship celebrities. You mean absolutely nothing to them and they ought to mean the same to you.
@@brettsmith8956 I do believe you have misinterpreted the original post... Eddie Van Halen inspired "millions" of people, across the globe, to take up playing the guitar, & others who already did, to play better! Music is a part of people's souls. For many, our memories are often wrapped up in some kind of musical soundtrack, whether it's Ed's, someone elses, or a combination there of. We seek out music to celebrate, to mourn & to heal. When that person who made the music to many of your best memories dies, it's a natural feeling of loss & remembrance. And if you are a guitar player, who "studied" Ed's music & techniques for years & years & years...it is indeed for many, like losing a good friend. Music was a part of Ed's soul, it's all he knew & ever wanted to do. He made his music for others to enjoy as much as he did. While Ed certainly did not think of his fans like he would family or close friends, he absolutely knew the impact his music had on them...as it's his fans who made his career & kept it going. Music was everything to Ed, & he fully appreciated anyone who understood & embraced that.
When Eddie died, he also took a piece of me. It just felt like it. I never even met him, either. I wish.😔 The nostalgia will never die, though!! Hope to see him in the next life.🤞🏼👀
Damn, TC, that must have been awesome...crazy, I saw VH on their very first tour, April of 1978..they backed up Montrose and Journey...what a show, and Eddie was 21 at the time!
Just a beautiful person. Looking back at all these old clips since he died. he was always smiling when he played. He made sheer joy come out of his guitar and did things no one else had ever done 😥❤️
"Eddie Van Halen was the Mozart of our generation. He had the kind of talent that MAYBE comes around once a century. Eddie Van Halen inspired me to practice for 20,000 hours, to try to come within 100 miles of his inspired MASTERERY of the electric guitar". - Tom Morello
I went to this show. Great concert. I also saw Rush the month before in Montreal. Both were their last tours. Sad that in 2020, we lost both Neil Peart and Eddie Van Halen, two titans of rock.
I always wished that Ed would have grown old, like 90, then someone would bring him out a guitar and he would tap that last passage of "Eruption " in a wheelchair. Cancer always has a different perspective, it's a shame. We lost "Uncle Ed".
I lost count how many times I tried to learn that intro an failed miserably lol the rest of the song I can play no problem. Bomb the intro every damn time 😂
What is as much impactful as his phenomenal musical brilliance is that he was attested by MANY to be a BEAUTIFUL, HUMBLE and GRACIOUS Man. God Bless you Edward as you NOW traverse the Cosmos.
1978....Cotton Bowl Dallas Texas. We all waited in 105F heat until the Sun went down. Watched 12 bands that day at The Texas Jam. Van Halen came on about 8pm and the place went chaotic. I was 20 and my young wife 19. Man what a show. Truly gifted man with his brother. The two others were not bad either. I'll never forget it. Van Halen's 1978 album had come out earlier that year. It blew everyone away.
I swear Eddie continued to improve. Of course we all love the exuberance of youth but he's only improved in the virtuosity of his playing I reckon! I'm missing the three more albums he might have given us. Vale Eddie. ❤️
I feel SOOOO sorry for any guitar that EVH beat the living hell out of within an inch of it's usable mother f'in life!!! Unbelievable!!! Ladies and gentleman, you are the witness's of incredible greatness!! This may never be again... so thankful I was able to see this man play....
What a day ,back in the seventies went to see black sabbath and they had some unknown band as their opening act called Van Halen, all I can say is I wouldnt have wanted to be in black sabbath that night Eddie destroyed the fucking Coliseum in memphis that night .I'm sixty year old guitarist that crys every time I see this guy rock on in heVen
Thank you for your words! Edward had so much to give for the beauty of this planet. And he did! Over decades! What about you and me and all the others we are surrounded by? What about our incredible greatness? You and me will never be again, so let's take the chance and do our best as long as we are sharing this planet as an honest Thank-You to Mr. EVH for being such a kind and joyful artist.
Every time I got to see him which was 11 times 5 DLR yrs 6 Sammy yrs, and every video which is endless, EVH never played thy same thing exactly the same, which was just part of his GENIUS.....And what a GENIUS he was , I'm so proud I got to live in the time of EDDIE VAN HALEN.... LONG LIVE be THE GOAT... PERIOD
Wow ... Thanks for posting ... Hard to decide which is better, watching his fingers on the guitar or the pleasure he has playing and sharing that amazing, incredible talent with us all. R.I.P. Eddie ... shred it up in heaven and Thank You !
The 2 guitarists that changed the game in my 60 years on Earth left us too soon. Mr Jimi Hendrix and King Edward Van Halen. You can't exaggerate in words the contribution to music both have left. But for sure ...if you play rock n roll on guitar , a piece of their genius is being used. Thank You Eddie, your music is the soundtrack to my memories.
The guitar is saying "I didn't sign up for this"...just amazing man..was sooooo good, just had "it" whatever that it is.. he didn't set the bar, the guitar in his hands smashed the bar!!! RIP
I always thought of EVH as a classical composer with an electric guitar. Reminds me of VillaLobos (who, a century ago, incorporated harmonics & other subtleties into his compositions) By the way, the ending section of ERUPTION concludes with a very classical compositional gesture. He was special but think of the music he left us RIP🌷🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
I caught that classical touch he put in there too & love it! I heard recently he recorded tons of different kinds of music in different genres. That he took up playing the cello, as he played several different instruments. It would be fantastic to hear more masterpieces! Eddie had said about all the recorded music, "It even blows my mind!".
Thanks for the camera work on this video! ESP @ 6:36 - 8:02. I remember hearing, it on the DD album … and EVH wowed me. I probably didn’t know the number of strings on a guitar then! I think I just stared at the record spinning, floating in the stratosphere. What an artist he was!
It was both a blessing and an honor to have witnessed Ed and Van Halen several times throughout the years. His tone and ferocious riffs buried other guitarists. Rock music will never be the same without him.
On October 6 2020 we lost a big piece of the world of music when Edward passed away sure he's dead but gone we all miss him sincerely he was a god in the eightys we love you Ed
Simply mastery. Look at how good and sharp he became again in 2015. He was loving every second. I had been laid off early 2015 (entire project shut down after millions of dollars and 7 years) and didn't go back to work until September. I was so stupid to not see at least one show as I had the time. I was busy walking everywhere in sandals and riding my mtn bike (in sandals) seeing what was important. Plus selling a mountain of crap I did not need on eBay. I had a severance pay coming too (for months). Why did I miss them?! A regret I can never fix as he is gone, but never, ever forgotten. I've been watching VH concerts, interviews, and videos for a full year now and will never tire of all the content. Sorely missed.
Everytime I watch him I want to go give away my guitars and amps there must be something wrong with them. I have used them everyday for 45 years and can't get them to sound anything like that. Rest easy eddie.
Thats because he has stacks and stacks of amps cranked all the way up in a stadium! You would get that sound to if you had that many amps and speakers blasting at the same time. You will never get that sound with one amp in a house. He must have 20 amps and 100 speaker cranked!
@@AbdassLeo_ In the early days, Eddie used a voltage regulator with the voltage turned down to 90 volts, and used the Marshall Amp as a preamp. I'm not sure how he had the rest of his gear aligned, and what he used in later years.
I'm not a metal head or a fan of shredding itself but THIS GUY.....damn he was so innovative and special way beyond pretty much all that came before and after him. Truly groundbreaking. R.I.P. EVH!
Every time we hear who the "greatest" guitar player ever is, the answer always reverts to Jimi Hendrix for the reasons of respect I suspect however guitar players were stuck in the same rut until Ed hit the scene and completely reinvented playing the guitar. We grew up on him, watched him play, learn from him, envy his technical prowess. There won't be anyone else like him, ever. We were lucky enough to grow up in a time that included Van Halen for us to enjoy. Rest easy Ed, your work here is complete.
fuck.... am in so many tears, I miss him so much man, the love and joy he alne gave me, when all was sit, just is music, what a total bard was he, I was destroyed knowing he was no longer with us, this is great.... thanks.
I love it whenever Eddie broke into a smile. He loved playing for people and even though it got old sometimes the joy always broke through. God bless Eddie V.
I miss him, this so beautiful to watch, Thank You for posting. I became a fan in 1983, seventh grade. Stole Van Halen I from my best friend and never returned it.
AWESOME! And that still doesn't hit the nail on the head. Eddie, you were the greatest innovater of In Guitar Rock and Roll! Made the frankenstrater, and changed the scenery of the landscape ahead. Missed out on seeing you several times. And have to live with my regret. But you left a ton of Music for all of us to love and enjoy. Thank you E.V.H! May you rest and look upon the legacy of your God given gift. He is smiling with you Bro!!!🙏
Have you known anybody at 60yrs old (2015) and most likely feeing the effects of cancer, play a guitar like that? Damn, I’m not complaining anymore about being 50😃
You nailed this TheFuge1138 !! F’ing as good as it gets brother. Great video/Great Audio ! I saw VH in August of ‘79 at the Cape Cod Coliseum. Then again in the front row right up against the plywood in front of Eddie in Pembroke Pines,FL. in Jan.’84 and many times after that as well! I regret not seeing them 2 nights after this show in Mansfield,MA. 8/1/15. Lawn seats were $25 a week before the show. Didn’t feel like driving 2 hours to a show alone like I would certainly have back in the day when I was a much younger man with loads of energy. Oh well I have great memories of seeing them in their prime to reflect on! R.I.P. Eddie🙏❤️🥲
As he joined the lord the first thing said was ..... daaaaaanng man way to take that talent and rule the world! True guitar god and my hero. Miss u Ed!
Its halftime show at this moment. I switch off the tv and over to my iphone and watch Eddie for a real show. The bs they are showing for the 2021 superbowl halftime show is a bunch of doodoo. But this right here is a real show!!! RIP master of guitar. 🍻
Man. I remember when I first heard Van Halen. I was 9. Believe me when I tell you that the 1st Van Halen song I heard was Unchained. It blew my mind. Even though Eddie didn't do all the crazy things that he did on guitar, this song messed me up. The drop D tuning, the groove. I was hooked. I bought the 1st album and was even more blown away. I was a piano player when I heard this stuff. But I didn't pick up a guitar until I was 15. And trying to learn Eddie was terrifying. I can mumble through it these days. Lol. People tell me that I'm good and crap like that. But, no. This man was absolutely phenomenal. God bless Eddie Van Halen. The greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that ever lived.
Who ever took the time to get this video thank you!!! You could have easily put your phone back in your pocket and enjoyed this masterpiece without recording it
I was going to throw tongue and throat cancer at the same time Eddie was I went through 36 treatments of radiation and chemo the only thing is I survived and then I got the news that I was cancer free and shortly after he passed away and he will always be in my heart and I just want to say we miss you Eddie and thank you for all the great music and memories you provided throughout the years I hope you know that you are loved by millions of people Rest in peace 🤘
