Brilliant performance of Purple Rain.. from a unlikely group of musicians you wouldn't expect it from, especially for their last song of the night. A performance that will put a tear in even the most causal fan's eye. ;) One that surely and pleasantly surprised their audience. Proof that you can't judge Prince fans by the way they look and let's face it.. most every one is a fan..8-| That guitar player kills the solo like I've never heard it. Playing all the main parts and giving it his own style.. with out showing off too much.. love what he does at the end.. not hard to tell that he's a big Prince fan. 💜

Eddie has the ability to make you feel emotional whether it’s one of his songs or a cover song. Love him very much. He’s been there for me since the beginning of his career.
@@peachlily8611 I partly agree. But I heard him on Howard stern and he sang a bunch of songs solo and he is (to me) extremely powerful. But you are right. Remember this is my opinion. I don’t want to tell you or others how to feel.
leaving pearl jam for this is just wrong. how one can think this is any good is wearing blinders. after seeing this don't you miss matt cameron on drums instead of the bombastic style shown here. very sad watching an implosion of my fav band .

I have to say this. I am a purist when it comes to this song as the original recording and when Prince does it live, well it carries heavy meaning and emotion for me. Others that have covered this song just muddle through it and there is no soul to it...it makes me ill. LOL. That said, this is INCREDIBLE. I gave it a chance coz hey, its Chad and Josh...not the biggest Vedder fan, but I still gave it a chance. These guys, Ed included, took ownership of this song. Gave me goose bumps and chills just like the original does. Well done, Eddie Vedder and The Earthlings. You did well and paid homage to Prince.
Such a weird thing! Actually McCready did a tiny rendition of "Purple Rain" in the last part of "Yellow Ledbetter" back in the day, when Prince passed away. But this whole cover is such a thing. Bravo guys!

I was at the opening night, (day before) and they rocked. They opened with R.E.M.'s "Drive" and closed with "All Along The Watchtower" Thing is, like this "purple rain" cover, they have times of brilliance as a band in there shows. They haven't had much time to practice together so there is that unrefined thing ... Hope you enjoy if you go to their show.
I have seen so many GREAT shows at the Beacon Theater in NYC...Allmans, G3, Sabbath with Dio, Black Crowes...just to name a few...It is by far my favorite place to see a show...If you get a chance to make it there for a show you should def do it. Oh...and they did a great job on this song too...lol.
I consider PJ my favorite band with RHCP probably being number 3. I am loving seeing Chad and josh playing with Eddie. Shows there’s no beef between them for bringing frusciante back.
Agree, still have not seen RHCP live and seen everyone else since 1990. Can’t wait to see RHCP world tour 2022. Had a ticket for Boston a few years back, but couldn’t make it. Hopefully will see them live this year!

take the blinders off. this is truly sad. his voice isn't great and the band isn't either. not a fan of this at all. in the past i would be truly hyped for a solo show but not any more. its like a crime scene nothing to see here.
@@jtb1649dude... Eddie is 50+ years old and i know there are many musicians his age who jump on stage like crazy, but Eddie has a different path. Maybe live show is not that "entertaining" anymore, although I'd say it's pretty arguable, but Eddie and other musicians on this gig still make some really good music. A concert doesn't need to be crazy and loud, to be enjoyed by audience and performers. And let's not forget about the fact, it's just a one video from a whole tour, they might have played better or worse on other days.
@@jostapio its just my opinion as is yours. Its not about jumping around as that means very little to me. I am about the music only. I have seen other clips of other songs and am equally unimpressed with the line up he has chosen. I have been to literally hundreds of shows since 1973. This just doesn't work for me. To each their own.

If only Pearl Jam would do a cover of Purple Rain... Eddie would have to not drink 3 bottles of wine, and Mike would have to use some of that insane chorus/ reverb/I don't know what it is... it would be a great cover.
