Man, as a European who looks up to Reid it's rough to have this excellent content locked behind an American paywall (at least if you want your money's worth)

@2.26 'check that your goals and actions match your resources as money will be more a limiting factor for some than for others' bro. git gud.

I play every week at my small LGS and usually walk away 0-4, though sometimes I win a round or two. Combination of having a shit deck and being a noob, but I genuinely love playing, even knowing I'm probably gonna lose every round. Recently invested in a better deck, and tied nearly every round last week (then lost the fourth one). Seeing myself improve (and having a better deck) is even more rewarding than just getting to play and have fun.

I was waiting for Reid to announce that all that background kitchen noise was finally coming to a head, then pull out a saucepan, pull off the playmat to reveal a stovetop, and teach us all a lesson.

It's tough without all the Pro Tour bonuses and all that stuff; just not enough money to be a magic player. Great video, been watching Reid play since his very first tourneys, and he was great then, but he's one of The Greats now. listen to him.

Yeah if you grind on MTGO and get like 10 treasure chests/day you can do kinda the same as some jobs in a bad economy country. Here in Brazil I made a career transition and in the meantime (while I was studying) I was able to pay my (cheap) bills by playing 4-6 hours/day, spent almost a full year that way. I think it was something close to 600 dollars a month at the time.

I liked thinking about some of my milestones. Made me realize how far ive come and how far i have to go. Awhile back a milestone i was proud of was beating CGB in the play queue. It was late and he was clearly messing with some janky deck. But i was also running a janky boros clerics deck (trying to take advantage of Hofri & Venerable Warsinger from Strixhaven) so its unclear that i really had a legup in that department. Id also never thought that going 3-0 or 7-0 in a draft (traditional or BO1 respectively) was a big deal, but i did put a lot of effort into learning to draft and its something ive really enjoyed. So yeah. Even if lots of people have done that, it doesnt mean its not a praiseworthy accomplishment in its own right. Also, your hair is looking stunning in this one Reid.

a program called Xmage is a place you can play magic with people all around the world and it's 100% free, you get access to every single card and every format 100% free. i understand Reid isn't allowed to advertise this so i will!

I remember when it was easy, it was just us and a bunch of random Mexicans.... top 8 at a PTQ was almost a gimme . but then the random Mexicans got better :( I never had Reid's dedication and discipline. But I am happy that I could taste a bit of pro level tournaments, including 1 worlds. Those were my milestones as a semi casual player. Playing a better pros was definitely key to getting better, I was lucky enough to play amongst a bunch of (future) pro tour top 8ers
