Hello again Gregor. Can you tell me what material you used for the pressure assist valve? I'm thinking of using black Delrin for my first attempt in making a pressure assist valve system. I need to make this because on my .257 DIY project, I can hardly cock the spring as it needs to be so powerful otherwise it will not open the valve at 180bar. My valve has a diameter of 12mm and almost at total valve-lock. Even with a massively strong spring, the best maximum speed I can achieve is 270M/sec with a 40 grain slug. Only half the power of your R5 here. I'm wanting to achieve as much power as your project above. Oh yes, just another thing, I noticed your small relief hole in the valve is in the center on the spring side and off center on the shut-off side. How are you making this hole and how big is the hole? Much appreciated.
I made it out of PEEK plastic. This is my go-to material for all valves. The part where the o-ring groove is is the most critical... If possible, place the oring on the outher (cylinder) part... The size of the hole depends on the amout of volume you have in the valve cylinder, the desired duration of valve opening and pressure. Start with small hole (lets say 0,7 mm) and experiment by making it larger. Remember, the larger the hole, less time will the valve be opened and vice versa. If at all possible, drill the hole at an angle starting form center of the valve from the side were the o-ring is and towards the side of the valve on the steam side. Try not to penetrate the hole in plastic where the steam is as the pressure might push out the steam... I drill this by hand. It requires some skill since the drill bit is only 0,7 mm :)
Gregor, how large are you transfer ports and the barrel port? Also, how large is the hole in the valve port just behind the valve? How thick is the valve pin? All this info will tell me the area in mm2 of the air flow. Many thanks
@@gregorkamensek3923 That is interesting. I was going to use a 7mm port myself and ovalizing the barrel port so the bullet would not jam should i use a 7mm port at the barrel point. Tell me, is your barrel 6.5mm or 6.35mm?
You are definitely right that this mod is quite complex. But for me, it is a challenge, to get more power than most .357 airguns in such a small caliber and still regulated with quite good shot count... BTW: what do you mean about EDgun special bullets? I have not heard of those...
@@gregorkamensek3923 ( Edgun special bullets) I think this I explained wrong. I wanted to say that Edgun put on sale in the future, this same weapon but with a barrel to be able to shoot bullets and already tested ( I mean any bullet design that works, as an example....your bullet design or that of Huben or the Nielsen etc )
@@h2oacua936 I understand. But the main reason why I make the mods is that I want high power with low calibers. This is way more efficient at long ranges mainly because of better BC. Sure you get bigger energies with bigger calibers but that is not the same and you cannot get high energies with small calibers without mods. If my interest would be to hunt at relatively close range, my mods would make no sense. But what I want is to shoot at 200 + meters and still have good results even in wind...
@@gregorkamensek3923 Of course, I encourage you to continue with this project, which will follow very carefully. I'm sure everything you get sooner or later will come to us. But, please do not forget this and other deadly umildes that are already at the limit of the possibilities of this weapon. We have little ammunition to choose from in this Cal .30 and we always hope that you will get something out of the routine without having to make big changes :) P.D. Very interesting to have double oring for the Explosions that we have already had even shooting at 285 ms
Excellent video. What type of lathe do you use to do your machining for these air gun mod parts you are making? Assume the .257 TJ barrel is 1 in 14 twist with no choke - correct?
Hi gregor. nice video review an nice project. Where the buy anti bounce system ? Is this system recomending for some matador r5 or r5m ?? exactly .22 or .25 cal.
This is custom designed and made anti bounce system by me. You do not need it if you are using non-modified gun. I have made a custom pressure assist valve and for me it is very important to have it and the bounce is way more pronounced with pressure assisted valve.
No, I am using my own. Just googled "Wingmans power plenum" and form what I see, it is similar design, but I don't use Huma regulator but Altaros instead and also I have pressure assisted valve...
Yes, that would be one option and I actually intend to do something like this but unfortunately, there is not much space in the gun so I can only go up to 16 mm of external diameter...
Thanks Gregor. I just found out today that the Samsung Galaxy Prime Plus is not OTG compatible. Therefore I have to get another phone. Sorry about the wild goose chase. But you should look at this kit. Costs about $15-00. Very cheap, in fact much cheaper than a Yukon MPR. Easycap DVR. Cheers.
This should be a very interresting gun when its done !! Wouldnt it be possible to set tension on the barrel using a heavy duty spring and a nut to adjust tension?? The spring would allow shrinking/expanding without changing actual tension to much.
Yes, I was thinking of doing something like that, but is is a very experimental method and also, if the power/ velocity changes only a bit, the harmonics might re-appear.
@@gregorkamensek3923 With a big enough spring it shouldnt react to much with different powerlevels , but should eliminate change in tension due to temperature. Biggest challenge will be finding the right spring 😂 Where did you get the .257 barrel ? Been thinking about turning my AF Condor into a slug gun and know they have done that before.
.257 is exactly what the name is. It is slightly bigger dimensions than .25 airgun and it is originally a firearm caliber. R5 is a single shot so there is no magazine. It has more than 2.5 x the power of the stock .25 R5
Unfortunately no. I am having problems with barrel and accuracy but I have not given up. There will most likely be a follow up video, I just cannot predict when...
@@redgum1340 Hello. My port is oval at the barrel of course. The only thing I was paying attention to is that all the "air path" had the surface area of at least a 7 mm hole (around 38 mm2), but the shape of the port is not important... I don't think faster twist is needed for the 70-grain slugs 1/14" should be enough. For longer 85 grain slugs, a faster twist might be a good idea. The barrel is .257, not 6,35.
@@miljan1983mc I talk about my anti bounce in many videos and I also have a video that shows in slow motion how it works. BTW: the anti bounce system is only needed if you modify your gun (like I did with the pressure assist valve). There is no point of making one if you have a gun as it comes out the factory as it is engineered not to have any bounce that would wast air.
@@gregorkamensek3923 happy new year bud and great vids. I am interested in the lathenyou use can you provide feedback how well it's worked for you thus far and how long you've had yours? Also would like to know where you purchased from as I am currently on the hunt for a lathe. Link would be great. Appreciate the help.
If you mean the size of the plenum; I don't know exactly. I have gone as far as possible in the cylinder (the rear part of the cylinder has a slightly bigger diameter so you can only push the regulator as far as the hole is bigger).
Gregor I need your help please. I left a message for this guy on a video titled "Recorder Test Between HMDVR, PV110 and Easycap." I would really appreciate your help as an Electronic Engineer. Thanking you in anticipation. Mehl Carelse
You have to have a reason for owning it. Usually you can get the licence if you are in a shooting club or if you are a hunter. You have to pass an exam (same as for airguns). Then you have to pass medical and psychic test. You also need to have empty criminal record. You need to get a purchase licence before you buy a firearm and also ammunition (I think). There are some limitations regarding firearms you can get, full auto is forbidden and also all suppressors are forbidden... With airguns, you can purchase them anytime form anywhere (no power limitation), but you are obligated to register them within 8 days after purchase. All you need is a purchase recipient, be over 18 years old and have empty criminal record... Easy... LOL
if you want to be a millionaire redesign a hw100 to run off the hw97ks spring powerplant.. the finest minds on the planet CANT make a simple single stroke pneumatic/spring action that also cycles a mag ? Yup that really is the case . I understand this would only be within sub 30ftlb energy range and not really up to your slug firing +80ftlb needs BUT the airgun world IS crying out for such a rifle but greedy ass manufacturers know theres waaay more cash in pcps..they can sell you a pump and a compressor , hose attachments bigger bottles..its like 1 dude going to buy 5 springers at once if they can sell you a pcp ! Under 50yards my spring hw97k is capable of matching a £+1500 fx impact Youve got the contacts within the manufacturing world...Make a multi shot hw97k ! Please ! 👈 see i asked nicely so you have to nag kuban/edgun/ANYONE to make it now 🤪👍
I understand but your idea should go to the manufacturer of the already existing accurate spring airgun... That is the key to your idea, the indexing mechanism already exists and it is used. Also, that would definitely not make me a millionaire and I doubt that it would be as revolutionary and popular as you expect it to be. I am sure that sooner or later, high end springer manufacturers will start to have this in their offer as well.
sub £600 springer+gun bag. +£1000 pcp rifle+£200 pump+gun bag. they have ZERO intrest in halfing their years profit! Would you ???...that gamo had people looking until it was evident it sucks and was never going to be accurate with break barrel..
