This complete video guide was filmed over several trips to Edinburgh, so sorry about the weird continuity. But if you've enjoyed this video and want me to make more city guides like this, let me know in a separate comment below!
@@UltimateBucketList You are so helpful, can I ask you please, where would you recommend spending New Years Eve? I live in Switzerland and would love to go to Scotland 😀
@@purplefee9210 Hogmanay (which is New Years' Eve in Scotland) is always fantastic, they have street celebrations and they blow up fireworks around Edinburgh Castle. I recommend that you go there. It might be expensive and it might be crowded, but it's definitely worth doing once in your life!
It's IMPOSSIBLE not to like your videos. RELEVANT information, with captivating visuals that make you travel without leaving home. Not to mention, I learn new English words, slangs. Your engaging narration is a great opportunity for me too practice my listening skills. Keep it up!!! Congratulations.
I appreciate your continued support and kindness. I try and be as helpful as possible so that people like you can enjoy the places that I've been to. Happy to hear that it helps you practice your English too. Enjoy Edinburgh!
Watching tourists in edinburgh is one of the best attractions in edinburgh, get you an outside table at the costas coffee just below the castle and watch ppl walk by!
Thank you so much! I'm happy that you like this video about Edinburgh. Be sure to check out my channel for more videos like this. Enjoy your trip to the Scottish Capital! 🙂
I stay in fife so I like to tell foreigners "I live in fife, it's just across from Edinburgh" and they go "oooooh". "Aye, at Andrews is near where I live...🙄" Hahahah
You make great videos! They are so helpful! Not just telling about the location but you also give essential information about how to get there and cost that most other videos leave off. It's especially nice to know about when peak seasons are and what to expect then. I appreciate all of your insights. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks again, it fills me with confidence to read comments like yours! 🙌 Unlike other RU-vid 'travel guides' (which the camera is pointed at the presenter talking mindlessly most of the time), I show you everything that you need to know, and make sure you're familiar with the place before you actually go there. It eliminates a massive source of stress when you visit somewhere you've never been before. Be sure to share this guide if you have found it helpful! 😀
I'm Edinburgh born and bred and soooooo proud of my city, even when it's ******** rain it still looks beautiful ! The only problem is the shops on the Royal Mile - they're crap !. They sell absolute tat, pure and simple - you'd be hard-pressed to find anything made in Scotland as it's all ***** stamped 'Made in China' !. So, come and enjoy my city BUT - ask your hotel/B&B where to buy genuine quality Scottish goods !
Sadly, that's true of any major street in any major city these days. But yes, it might be worthwhile asking hotels where to get proper Scottish things. Thanks.
Ah, you got to the end of the video! It appears you're the only one who's noticed so far that I was totally smashed at 2 in the afternoon, stumbling along the Royal Mile. Good job! 👍
Edinburgh is also expensive because the military tattoo is only during that time as well. Best time to visit to fit in ALL Scotland has to offer with the nicest weather. Still super chilly at night. We got married there almost a decade ago, did the whiskey experience dinner the night before with the military tattoo to end the evening, stayed in Dalhousie Castle, got married at Culross Abbey, had tea at Edinburgh Castle, saw a few shows at fringe fest, and took a 3-4 day bus tour of the highlands. We packed a lot into less than a week but it was worth it.
Yes, that's correct. It's the best time of year to visit, but boy is it expensive right about now! Congratulations on your wedding, it sounds like quite the experience :)
Fantastic, I'm glad you enjoyed this video. Edinburgh is a really cool place and I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. It'll be cold and possibly rainy in November, so prepare for that. Be sure to help me out by sharing this video where you can 😀
I should have watched this video before my Christmas travel last year, seems I missed some interesting places. But I really recommend Portobello beach in Edinburgh, it’s a lovely, peaceful and relaxing place. And the sunset is splendid, My boyfriend proposed to me when we went on a sunset stroll. If it’s a sunny day, the beach is worth seeing 😊
Congratulations! What a nice place for a proposal! I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of going to Portobello beach, so thanks for the suggestion :)
My wife and I have just returned from a mini break in London after watching your brilliant London video. Now we are planning another trip, for March 2023. Not yet decided where ..either York or Edinburgh .. both an easy train ride from Newcastle. Regards from Whitley Bay
Fantastic! I'm glad you had a great time in London. I've made guides on York & Edinburgh, and I think you'll be happy with either city, but there's more to do in Edinburgh admittedly. Let me know how you get on!
Wish we had found this video before our trip last year- would have made the planning much easier, however managed to get to majority of the attractions! Very informative, great job 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks very much! I'm happy that you managed to do all the attractions anyway and I'm sure you had an amazing time. Be sure to check my channel if you're going somewhere in the future - I have many of these kind of city guides!
Another excellent video lad. I went to Edinburgh this past February. Lovely city, very walkable. Lots of familiar sites that brought back good memories
You're welcome! I hope this helps you plan a trip to Edinburgh. Be sure to share this video if you've liked it and check out my channel for similar videos. but in the meantime - enjoy the Scottish Capital! :)
I hope you have a wonderful time here in Edinburgh. There's all sorts of things you can have deep-fried - black pudding, pizza, chocolate bars ... anything!
Thanks very much - yes, you do need quite a few days in order to explore everything. Appreciate the kind comments, be sure to check out my channel for more like this :)
Loved the video with all the details of Edinburgh. We are planning a trip and this has been so helpful. We also do RV travel in the USA and enjoy your video of your RV travels. Keep up the excellent trips! Thank you !
In New Zealand, there's the city of Dunedin, which was originally settled by the Scottish and as such, it's dripping in Scottish influence (Dunedin is actually the gaelic name for Edinburgh) and instead of deep fried Mars bars, they have deep fried moros. (A local chocolate bar, similar to a mars bar)
Yes, that's a worldwide conundrum: how to balance the needs and wants of industry, uber rich and the "common man" when it comes to any city's shoreline.
Absolutely! It's got plenty to do and everything is pretty much within walking distance of each other. Just don't come during the Fringe Festival (if you're short on money) and you'll be fine!
Ah, that's good to know. Yeah, there's lots of things to do in Edinburgh. If you're itching to do something different, the ghost tours in the underground city come highly recommended. Hope you're enjoying your new home!
Thanks, this is a great video! The fringe festival is the largest arts festival in the world! The Edinburgh Zoo, while having the only pandas in the UK, is also home to the penguin parade where the penguins are let loose in the zoo and parade through it led by the only knighted penguin in the world, Sir Nils Olav! There are so many different museums in Edinburgh as well from the two Scottish National Galleries of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery, The Scottish National Gallery, the two National Museums of Scotland, The Museum of Childhood, and the Museum of Edinburgh, plus many more, as well as the two National Records of Scotland and the National Library of Scotland which is one the largest libraries in the UK! Also, the observatory on Calton Hill is technically not in use anymore as it has been subsumed by the city (it still works though), but there is another observatory on Blackford Hill called the Royal Observatory Edinburgh (which is also very interesting to visit) and is the home to the UK Astronomy Technology Centre!
Nice. But a couple things: "Turn right down Grassmarket" should be "...down Victoria Street" (the sign adjacent to 'Grassmarket was the one to read). The Grassmarket is the "public square" referred to immediately after. "If you carry on walking down Princes Street you won't find any shortage of bars, pubs and restaurants"? That footage is George Street, a block further into the New Town, which is where drink and food can be found. As for dismissing Leith as "There's really not that much to it," you've got that wrong. Leith, once a town separate from Edinburgh, might lack the grace of the New Town and the tourist attractions of the Old Town, but it is one of the city's most characterful areas, with plenty of bars, pubs, places to eat and funky streets to discover. It is always good to get someone who knows the city to review the final edit before publishing. Of course there is so much more to the city centre than what you show. Still, it is always nice to see footage of this fabulous city.
I'd just done the Scotch Whisky Experience and I was stumbling down the Royal Mile in the middle of the afternoon. Maybe next time you could join me, eh? 😅
Ah, you live and you learn. Hopefully it won't be too expensive for you when you get here. The hotels is easily the most expensive thing you'll pay for. Other than that, it's still reasonable enough.
not to mention the acts at the fringe are free and Hogmanay is like no other experience anyone would ever encounter ever again you do not just see fireworks its the lighting of the torch the parade of the people walking from Holyrood to princes street the musicians the dancers the acts and performances all before the bells taking you into new years day its a massive new years celebration Scotland's tradition.
VERY much appreciate all your videos, but especially this one. Headed to Edinburgh in April and now, I can not wait. Thanks so much, am very appreciative for all of the detailed info! PS love the end of the video, day drinking at its finest!!
Thank you Kerry, I'm so happy that this video helps you plan your trip to Edinburgh! It's comments like these that keep me going, so thank you again. Whilst I obviously don't advocate daytime drinking, it's pretty hard not to in a place like this! 🤣
Deffo on my bucket list. Only part the UK I'm yet to visit, Scotland such a beauty of a country and if I get up there one day I deffo take the Drone with me, stunning vid mate 👍
Thanks! Although you have to be careful about droning around the Castle (make it an early morning flight) - and it's definitely a no-no flying around or over the Palace of Holyrood House. Stay well clear! That place is heavily guarded and there are certain places I've been to recently that employ signal jammers. It's scary when you lose the signal and you have to wait for it to drop out of the sky before they get to you.
Wonderful city. I spent a week there. I couldn't find good places to eat.l loved haggis at Sant Andrews restaurant. It was great as well as the nature.
It really is a lovely city. Food is always good around there, and you can find Haggis in many forms. There's Haggis burgers and Deep Fried Battered Haggis (which I love, but it's unhealthy for you!). Really awesome place! Thanks for stopping by 😀
É a primeira vez que vejo algo sobre a Escócia. Fiquei encantada com tantas coisas lindas e legais. Muita cultura, história, natureza, culinária e especialmente, a natureza é algo que encanta. É um lugar fantástico. Informações importantissimas❤
Thanks Ben. I've been to Tynecastle park, but only to visit from the outside and the one and only Scottish Premiership game I've ever seen live is at Easter Road. Yeah, definitely try to get a game there at some point.
If you're needing a room in Edinburgh book it online, its usually about half the cost of what you'll get at the desk. Also its not thw Edinburgh fringe festival, its the Edinburgh Festival, and then the fringe.
@@eccremocarpusscaber5159 London is decent for a visit but never a place to live. Saying this as a born and bred Dundonian, Edinburgh isn'ae Scottish - neither culturally, socially or economically. Much more middle-class and cosmopolitan than the more traditional, smaller working-class cities and towns like mine. It's more closer to being English imo. Too much shortbread tin pandering for tourists and becomes an de-facto exclave borough of London when the Fringe is on. But still a lovely place with very high standards of living. I'm planning on going to Queen Margaret uni in Musselburgh, just outside Edinburgh. Less snobby and more affordable. Good for students from deprived backgrounds + gives you a chance to live in the capital without being aristocraticly rich.
Great video. It is so helpful especially I am greatly considering visiting Edinbrugh towards the end of this month. By the way, when you said that hotels are expensive, did you mean in the summertime? Thanks for your reply.
Thank very much, I'm glad that this helps you plan your trip to Edinburgh. Sadly - hotels are expensive all year around, but particularly in the summertime when the Fringe Festival is on.
You got the street name wrong at 5:28.... it is Victoria Street, but it is leading you to Grassmarket.... in this street you find the best pulled pork in the universe at Oink Oink (pink building).... and the best pubs are in Grassmarket. My spot is The Last Drop. Awesome pub. Try it.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
You can pay with bank card direct in the buses. A day unli ited travel is £5. The National Museum of Scotland was not mentioned and is amazing! Dinosaurs to space travel and so very much more. Excellent
Thanks for another great video. Edinburgh look fantastic the only disappointment is that accommodation is expensive, another city to visit once I get to the UK one day.
Thanks Jason! The hotels in the city centre are stupidly priced, so whenever I go there, I stay in one of the other districts where the price of hotels is reasonable (and with free car parking) ... and then get a £2 bus into town. That's the only way I can make Edinburgh affordable most of the time. But a lot of tourists don't know that, so they get seriously ripped off when they come here. I suppose it's like that with every major capital city these days!
Hi Bro, You have such an incredible way of explaining with very deep details (thanks for that). I need your advise as I am planning to visit UK next month. I will be at London from 13/8 to 16 then Cardiff from 16 to 18 and was planning to reach Edinburgh on 18 however the flight ticket + hotels are very expensive so my question is : What is your advice to visit after Cardiff ? as I will be in Manchester on 21/8 so I have 18 to 21 still not decided yet and I trust your options . Sorry for my long story and thanks in advance!
Hello my brother. Thanks for stopping by, and thank you for watching my videos! If Edinburgh is too expensive, I recommend that you visit the historic city of Bath (see my video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b8iKVkgrpxU.html). It’s not too far from Cardiff, about a 1 hour train ride). And you can easily spend two days there. Liverpool is also a short train ride away from Manchester, so that’s worth a day too. You won’t need much time in Cardiff, Bath or Manchester - so I’d add a couple of extra days in London if you can. Hope that helps?
Ninh another banger of a video so informative and professional. Im actually in Edinburgh now so thanks for the tips. One thing though there was no mention of Hampden Park?
First of all kudos for your videos! Could you please tell me where "The Carron Fish Bar" is? I couldn't find it on google! Thank you so much in advance!
I don't ever recall seeing one in Edinburgh (Google says it's in Aberdeen, which is miles away). If you're into seafood, Maxie's near Edinburgh castle comes highly recommended.
@@UltimateBucketList Thank you for reply and your clue about seafood. About the store ,it is shown in this video at 10:14 when you mention "deep fried mars bar". I thought you had been there, sorry!
@@delanosilveira17 Oh sorry, that was some stock footage from a news site that I took to illustrate my point. In reality, any fish and chip shop in Edinburgh will be more than happy to deep fry you a Mars bar (or any chocolate bar) on request!
Without looking at hostels (which I don't recommend), you'll probably be looking at budget hotel chains such as Travelodge and Premier Inn. There's also a budget Hilton hotel to the west of the city that's easy to get to/from. Hope that helps?
