Cause they think it is too tragic of an event to comment on. This is a regular occurrence, it is not like it is a personal story about someone committing suicide or something.

Courtney Pauroso's show Gutterplum is one of the funniest things I've seen. Fave moment of a past Fringe was seeing her and Natalie Palamides's Sea World bit. Two of the best clowns IMO!

Benign violation theory of humour? For many it violates their perception of how reality should be, but they find it acceptable so they laugh. It could add weight of acceptable violation to jokes, like swear words used to make jokes funnier for the older generations.
