These boys were going to check out Cat, Dana, Perkins. Dont get mad at them for going to China when thats where the North American brands do their manufacturing. These guys want to make EV trucks. They aren't going to hand make diesel motors, differentials or drivetrains. That isnt feasible. They have to go where suppliers are. I hope you boys had fun.
There's a sub culture of Chinese online gaming where all the hate comes from. They ruin every game they touch. Cheating, farming bots, griefing teammates, etc. They're hated by normal Chinese too. Problem is a lot of normal Chinese people intentionally play on non Asian game servers to avoid that culture, but they indirectly affect the players on those servers by not speaking the local language and having high internet latency.
It is refreshing to watch you guys getting to experience the REAL China. Growing up in the US upper-Midwest, you betcha, I also got to live and work in China for 5 year…that was twenty years ago. I found the Chinese people extremely friendly, humorous, fun loving, hardworking, and very curious about us from North America. The food is great, and yes the public toilets don’t have toilet paper! (BYO). I found that average Chinese people admire the West and don’t understand why the West “hates” on China. They want the same things for themselves as we want for ourselves. It’s too bad our jealous politicians feel they need to create China as a “foil” for their own political power. How can we be competitive without rattling sabers.
Not anymore. According to a 2023 Pew survey, 78% of Chinese people have a negative opinion of the United States, and Canada is even worse because the Canadian government kidnapped Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of Huawei's founder, which shocked the whole of China.
I love how simple that Foton truck is. As someone that hates the "computer on wheels" approach to modern vehicles why can't any other manufacturers figure this out? It's sad that they'll probably never be able to be imported into Canada. Passenger vehicle companies need to realize EVs aren't just for tech bros anymore, some people want a simple vehicle that just happens to have an electric motor.
I've been to Shanghai in 2018 (for work) and had the opportunity to do a lot of the things you did. It is a crazy but somehow beautiful city. Back then not a lot of vehicules were electric, but they had these scary scooters that had been manually transformed into electric scooters. They were absolutely silent and more than one time were close to running me over. 🤣
For the NPCs complaining lack of truck content. It's only been a month. If you can't connect the two dots they went on vacation and toured/researched. Working nonstop for 2 years to get a single break. Calm down.
In Shanghai, it's nearly impossible to get new plates for a non electric car regardless of the price. Taxis I think are also not allowed to be ICE anymore. Lotus, Nio and BYD all have flagship stores a few blocks from your location.
You forgot to mention the fact that diesel engines are 40% efficient , gasoline is at 25%. A power plant is more than 90% efficient. That's a big advantage.
Lol 90% Ironically, I think a modern DC linked diesel generator/powertrain (3 phase inverter uses active rectification, bucking/boosting) has the potential to be more efficient than a stationary diesel generator. The reason being stationary generators have a fixed engine RPM per the required AC frequency and the generator poles... no variability in the engine speed, and that engine speed may not be the engine's most efficient. With a DC linked, electronically controlled diesel, the fuel economy could be estimated real time, while the RPM of the engine is varied under any given power output (a turbodiesel could easily produce some given power figure at many different speeds, as long as that hp fits under its power-rpm curve) to optimize the efficiency. That could be a one time occurrence or it can occur all the time, to compensate for IAT, engine temp, fuel variation (different types of diesel, CNG vs no CNG, etc). But it still will not reach 90%. Combustion engines simply cannot... even a Brayton cycle sCO2 generator couldn't.

Having lived in Western Canada (very sparesely populated) and in Japan (Very densely populated) , I can apreciate some of your cultural experiences (I am a brit living in France).
I live in the Netherlands, famous for its good infrastructure for walking, cycling and public transport. I have seen the transition in cities from not have any bus lanes to having a lot of bus lanes and other space for public transport. It really does wonders for the drivability. The more busses I see, especially on a seperate lanes, the quieter the roads are for me to drive on. I love it.
One thing wrong, EVs are powered mainly by renewables, mainly solar, with some wind. In China, oil & coal powered generating plants are mainly for factories and industry.
All lot of the comments seem to be negative but i think some people should get out of the basement. I enjoyed seeing something ill probably never see and knowing that in the fowllow up videos will be about the products
There's lots of things to not like China for. The coolest things in China are what the tour brochures and 'AAAAAAAA' tourists spots don't care or don't want to show you. Those thungd6are mostly "touched up" scenic views. The gold in China lies in the rural places because that's where you meet a lot of genuine people and see a lot of cool things that don't exist in first tier cities. Inner Mongolia is a good example. Not a single notable landmark for miles and it's wholly possible to get lost and die if you don't keep your wits about you. And some Chinese subcultures are extremely unique and cool but aren't at the forefront of tourism. See happy hardcore and its related happenings. The flashy tech and sightseeing in Chinese cities is cool on video but what's hard to get on video in a vacation is simply the people you meet. I think the awe is misplaced.
I’m pretty sure the plane went the wrong way around the globe. The only nonstop flights that go from the US to China go over the Pacific, the other way around the globe than what the opening animation showed
My word, you guys go on a business trip and everyone screams 'Chinese sellouts.' Heaven forbid they take a closer look at where the majority of their crap at home is made in... China. Your 'American' car has a ton of chinese made parts, your 'American' brand appliances have chinese sourced parts. Your computer, phone, headphones, router, etc. are all made in China, or have China made components. Christ, these guys tried to source locally in North America, and couldn't. Even then, the few North American companies that rhey do work with have most of the manufacturing in China. So don't blame Edison for their suppliers' decisions. You make do with what you can get.
I think it's important to be up to date on EV/climate facts if you're going to run an EV manufacturing company. 1. Whether an EV "makes sense" doesn't depend on whether you live in a city or not, but on what your vehicle needs are. I live in the western wasteland of the USA and it still would make sense here because there's charging in every direction I would like to go, and the range on most vehicles is sufficient for nearly every person. They only don't make sense for fringe cases. 2. Using EVs by coal fired electric is cleaner than burning fuel in your car because they're more efficient than cars. That being said, coal is still not clean even in the country, and contributes to what we all breathe eventually. 3. It doesn't "require" pollution to produce electricity, we just haven't invested in cleaner energy.
When I hear clean energy, that is Propoganda it is ALL about government control over Your travel, Government could care less about the environment, we are making a leash for ourselves and calling it freedom😡

Please dont propagate anti EV FUD. An EV charged from coal is still cleaner than diesel. Long distance EV works just fine, North American and Canadian charging infrastructure just sucks
Yes and no, Long range EVs can work in areas where cities/towns are near enough for electrical infrastructure. However, ICE is still king in some areas that I serve some of my IT clients in. When you're about 300km from the nearest city up in Northern Quebec, most folks are either running generators, solar, or wind for power. They aren't gonna let you plug in to charge your car.
Depends - most petrol cars have internet connection nowadays too. Could certainly build an EV without, just convert an old car, simple motor, battery pack and axle/drivetrain…
@@S3pra I was thinking things more in the line of power outages, brown outs etc. but that kind of stuff could shut down petro access as well when you think about it. In a SHTF situation, i think it would be easier to get petrol though.

CCP bot comment but I'll bite. It's because American cities weren't built 40 years ago and have been around for much, much longer. The US also doesn't have entire city blocks getting decimated by gas explosions or people fishing cooking oil from septic tanks because they're too poor to buy it.
