Well.....KSHMR recently revealed some of his secrets how he has such a great mix and master.

there's no recipe, you just hear and adjust.

Basically the guy in this video is not wrong. People expect too much from mastering. But if your song is crap it will still be crap after the master. You're polishing a turd... Mastering won't make a bad song a good song.

It depends on the genre and on your production quality how much loudness your track can provide. Rock has about -6 rms, trap -6.5, edm from -8 to -6, pop -9. Don't forget that Spotify decrease the volume of all tracks which has more than -13 rms because they want to give the same level of all tracks to the listeners. Ofc this option can be unchecked but it is checked as default and as I see nobody knows this option. Antian Roka said it right, the maximum loudness is -4, and after that it will be distorted, doesnt matter how much your mix is good. But I recommend to leave your track at -9 -8. There is no reason to go above cuz it will be the same quality on Spotify, but you destroy the dynamic range. (the level difference between the quietest and loudest part of the song)

Not the same, but mastering plugins shows you the rms or lufs value usually.

I aim for -0.1db true peak and -6 lufs for the drop. With decent mixing the rest of the track will be quieter but still sound good
