A look back at series' 1, 2 and 3 of this amazing playoff run. I know I left the finals highlights out, but im planning on making a different video with the best highlights together.
I was at that game with my Grandpa. 2nd row from the ice. Every one in our section was saying "Dont worry there is still lots of hockey to be played" Sure enough there was! It was AMAZING!! I will never forget that night.
saw their playoff run and it was unbelievable....the 8th seed going all the way to gm 7 cup finals. It was tough when they lost rolosson in the cup finals....markkanen came in and did good job but losing rolosson was probably the reason why they fell short....what an incredible run it was for them though at that time....they ranked near the bottom and nobody expected them to go anywhere. Looking back though this team had a ton of depth and leaders in: pronger, jason smith, peca, smyth, moreau...
the oilers fucking kick ass. they are the best team in the NHL. they always put on a good show, and Gretzky is just the cherry on top. i fucking love them
This all happened during my high school graduation year. The city was just magical and I certainly hope they give me a university send off in a couple years. It was just....hazey bliss.
Don't worry Oiler faithful, you guys will be back to the playoffs once you rebuild through the draft. Just suck for a couple more seasons, get a stud in Taylor Hall and Adam Larsson, and you will be the next Blackhawks. No one probably remembers how much they used to suck because they are so dominant right now. Besides I don't want to always go into the playoffs, and get knocked out the first and second rounds, cough cough Canucks and Flames cough
nice vid the only thing that sux is fucking pronger+detriot was easy they were just a binch of old men that time but still oilers 09-10 stanleycup champions
I was in grade 9 when is magic run happend and we had our entire class room coverd in Oilers flags and pictures from the newspaper and thos silver pom poms and everthing they had and yeah we came up short in game 7 and some poor and horrible NHL refing but Chris Pronger and Dwayne Roloson got us there ! If Roloson did not get hurt in game 1 of the Finals ...Edmonton would have won GARENTEED !!!!
ya know.. I know ive said a lot of hateful oiler topics... but I would love to see the battle of alberta in the playoffs... it would be a great series.. most importantly tho we need a canadian team to win the cup! 93 was the last year montreal did that. then it seemed only Detroit, NJ, Dallas and Colorado could win the cup... but i find it funny how you get the right players to go so far into playoffs and teams dont do much to keep them!
some good fuckin memories from that playoff run... i live in Canada across from Detroit MI, and i'm still an oilers fan! if only they won that year... they deserved it WAY more than Carolina ever had and ever will...
@BARCACROSSESTHEALPS He did his job very well. I was devastated when news came out that he wouldn't be playing goalie no longer after that first game in the finals. I think that cost Oilers the cup that year, it was definitely theirs. They still gave one hell of a fight though, dragging it to the 7th game.
@VancouverCanucksRock Quit making excuses on how our players were so good... you make an excuse for every team that has won a cup. Detroit has Datsyuk, Pitts has Crosby, Anaheim had Pronger/Nieds, Carolina had Ward, and it goes on. Vancouver had Linden, Bure, and Naslund, so don't act like your team never had superstars
They'll always be my favourite team. Sucks they haven't been doing too well since they traded Ryan Smith. Hopefully they'll get into the playoffs next year, and failing that, the year after that.
yeah don't have the dynamic that they had in the playoffs, they need better players and a greater will to win, especially roli if he doesn't want to become the backup
Why no clips of the gritty shot-blocking by the oilers. The shotblocks and the not giving a fuck about the possibility of injury is what made the oilers so successfull
katz wants to win so bad I can't see the oilers not making the finals again in the not so distant future. diehard oilers fan with dough running the show now
My two favorite memories of that cup run aren't here: Horcoff blocking Lidstrom's point shot head first and Torres destroying Milachek. Otherwise, nicely done.
Every time i watch this video it makes me remember when i watched every one of those games with my dad and we went crazy every time they scored. Gosh that was fun. Yes i know i watched it with my dad, im only 13. I want to see the Oilers win a Stanley cup so much. Edmonton Oilers 2005-2006 Stanley Cup Finalist Edmonton Oilers 2008-2009 Stanley Cup Champions
Great Vid! A few more of Roloson's Saves would have been great though, especially his save against SJ in double overtime, or something.... Edmonton seemed to grab hold of that series right after that save. Good video though!
they got Grebeshkov for Bergeron. Have you noticed his play recently? They robbed the Isles on that one. I think they got the better of the Philly deal too. Pitkanen is a great offensive d-man and young while Smith was getting old and Lupul was a bust, even in Philly he's spent the majority of his time hurt. They got Nilsson in the Smyth deal and I think eventually Oilers fans will see it was a good deal. Can't wait for next year. GO OILERS GO!
The 2006 play-off run was great. I've been an Oilers fan since '77 (WHA). They sneak into the playoffs, when they shouldn't have been there and then take out the best team in the NHL in the Wings, They take on the Sharks and they shouldn't have won but they did. They go on to face the Ducks, they shouldn't have won, but they did. Then they kicked and clawed their way to a 7 game loss to the 'Canes. It was a great run and they have nothing to be ashamed of.
Can't help but wonder what would've happened if Roloson never got injured. The final probably would have been completely different, and they would've had more success, because Pronger probably wouldn't have left. No one can know now. As a Leafs fan, I feel your pain, but at least your franchise is getting their shit together.
i remember 1990, that was a great run, but nothing compared to this. 8th place, the little team that could ( though they weren't little). this run was magic. they might have won the cup but they were the 06 champs in the hearts and minds of many oilers fans.
