"Edwin Valero vs Nobuhito Honmou" 2007.05.03 Ariake Colosseum, WBA Super Featherweight Title 1-6-7-8R Valero wins in the 8R(Honmou's five wounds:TKO) but Honmou never down and expressed retirement after this fight.
valero is a strong puncher no doubt! he has a great chin and stamina! and if someday pacman will fight him,he must improve his defence and head movement, coz pacman you name it he got it!!! m not saying valero has no chance in winning againts pacman?coz in boxing anything can happen! but for now in valero style? his verry lucky if he survive at round 3...no offence to valero he has alot to improve in style.he is a good family man,m a filipino he is one of my favorite boxer.peace
I'll tell you right now, that Japanese guy was a badass for standing in there that long. He was fighting one of the scariest men on the planet but he he didn't back down and actually attacked and hurt Valero many times. Respect.
Yes! I noticed that too, though I only watched one round. The simple fact that it was round 6 was already impressive, as all of the Valero fights I've watched so far, went at most 2. I love this guy Valero, never even heard about him while he was alive . . What a tragic loss for boxing.
OK, now I've finished viewing. Honmou was still in this fight; he even popped Valero a couple times, which just made Valero madder, but of course the cut stopped it. It's not inconceivable that Honmou even win a rematch, though it probably wouldn't be by KO. He lacks power.
Ali was in a class of his own to use that as an example. I agree his defence is ok because majority of his fights are ko first rounds but when he will face a long reach with a deadly left hook and can take punches and also has greater exp lasting 12 rounds, it becomes a big question whether he can defeat his next opponent.
I think Honmou gave Valero's handlers a scare here. The man fought gallantly and connected a few counter-punches. I agree that if only had a combination in his arsenal, he might have won. Valero, as you've said, was quite tired. I also don't like Valero's cheap shots on Honmou's body each time they would entangle. I would have reprimanded him if I were the ref.
I find it more fascinating that Yahoo just posted the article about him and suddenly everyone from across the world found themselves to this video. I'll rate that 5 stars. I'll rate this video 1.
I think you have to give Honmou credit in this fight, Valero never looked like he was going to knock him out, but for the stoppage i think it would have gone to points. No disputing the win for Valero though.
His defence is OK, you don't need to put your dukes up unless the opponent is 2 ft away from you, if you are say that he has no defence watch muhammad ali's fight he also always had his duke upto his chest length, what matters most is speed and stamina, Prescott and valero will be a good fight.
I think Valero vs Pacman is the best match up out there. To bad Pacman has alot on his plate right now, but if it were to happen i like Valero! Hes got mad power, his record speaks for it self.
Another example: the former WBC superbantamweight champ Jaime Garza.... He compiled a 40-0 38KOs record before fighting obscure Juan meza... In that fight on 1984, Garza absorbed a shocking 1st round KO at the hands of Meza.... I say that Valero will end up like Garza or Mugabi and met his Waterloo at Pacquiao...
im MEXICAN and happy to see fithers like pacquiao, right now the only fighter able to beat pacquiao is humberto soto, and we will know if he can only if the fight happens! valero has no chance against pacquiao, he must improve skills just like ponce de leon has been doing.
Valero still needs more Seasoning to reach his potetial, His POWER can only take him so far, but the he lacks some of the FUNDAMENTALS. Seems like he has heart and a nice chin..i thinh many of you are wrong talking trash about him.
analyze this..after PAC demolished MAB, and EM and drew with JMM (judges error).. These fighters moved on and still managed to get the belts, except for EM who still managed to make Diaz look like an amateur when he moved up to the next division...i know these are probably past their prime fighters, but they are still the best , and will still pretty much beat most in that division.
But guys, lets give this dude a chance of what he can show.... But if he keeps fighting that way, he will end up the next Mugabi or Garza....Nevertheless,I'm excited on this Pac-Valero showdown....Talagang bugbugan ito...
this man vs pacquaio, two offensive sluggers will be a dream unlike marquez/barrera who ran away all they can from pacman. 2 fighters going at it head on, wooohoo baby
I see what you're saying... Barrera was on his way down on his 2nd loss though... Pacman was known as a "wild brawler and undisciplined" as well... and what happened? Barrera got his ass handed to him. All I'm saying is that people are already knocking him. This makes for a great match up... but like I said... he needs some value under his name to make this a possibility.
Wow...i just saw this on yahoo. I look the guy up. He's pretty good..but that Japanese guy really went at it. I guess it was one of those 3 mathces that he didnt get a KO out of the 22.
Why's everyone knocking this guy? You think Pac looked pretty when he was starting out? He still looks a bit awkward now... although a whole lot better than before... 23-0 23KO's is impressive no matter how you slice it. He has to go up against a notable opponent to add some value under his name though.
Take the case of John"The Beast" Mugabi of Uganda... Before fighting Marvelous Hagler,he was undefeated in 25 fights and all of them KOs...Sounds scary right? But Hagler knocked him in the 11th round of their 12 round fight in 1986...After that fight, Mugabi was never the same again... he was KOed by Duane thomas and lost his crown...
We all know Valero has the power but I think people (Doug Fischer) over hype him and get off to him fighting. Honestly if he were fight Manny he would get slaughtered. He hardly even has any head movement and drags his feet. He has lots to learn
i am aware, and still i think Larios prime beats valero because i've seen most of chololo's fights..as for valero, yeah i'll give him points on power, but basing my analysis on his previous fights, i dont think he has the skills to beat prime larios, we can keep waiting for EV to mature and gain experience, but the fact is, we can only analyze him from previous fights which i think is not in the level of MAB, EM, PAC as of now.
Somebody needs to teach Valero to tuck his chin.. Everytime he throws a punch his chin is way up in the air.. Someone who punches with him and has some pop will knock him out clean.. Pitalua is like 40 years old.. He's made to order for Valero.. Somebody is going to slip bang on Valero's chin.. Mark my word!!!!
i think valero likes exchanging punches, he doesn't mind getting hit as long as he can also hit his opponent,, just like manny, it's just that manny is faster than him,, but Valero is like a lucky puncher,, like ponce de leon. (just a thought, what do guys think)
People question Valero,s opposition? But in relality there are some very good fighters on his KO resume? You just cant pronouce their names?Uncle Chuck Nitty
Quoting the article "hardcore fans who have followed his progress on RU-vid ..." . There are about 63 videos of Edwin Valero at the time of this posting. So, not much fan following as well !
This guy hasn't been tested with competition...He maybe 24-0 but these are the records of the first 15 bouts he fought...0-1-0, 2-5-0, 3-1-0, 0-4-0, 0-2-0, 2-6-0, 0-8-0, 7-2-1, 5-20-2, 21-13-2, 7-0-1, 0-4-0, 8-4-0, 24-8-1, 1-5-0...Come on now...He has more hype from coming back from an injury...his KO's are sensationalized by the chumps he boxes against...skip this guy...there's tuffer competition in the lightweight division that would bring about a more entertaining fight...
I think the fact that he has natural punching power is a plus. The fact that he has punching power late in a fight is also a plus, most heavy punchers lose their steam if they don't ko their opponents early. But I agree about "skill level". His defense needs a lot of work. I pick Pacman now. If he matures in a year or two, maybe he gets a better chance. Either way, fun to watch.
i think manny is a great fighter and will go down as one of the era's best. I have to say tho that i thought marquez won the second fight by two points. Also i don't think valero can beat manny because he is slightly slower than him,
Hes got 22-0 22by K.O. and 19 in the 1st round?! Well probably because he is as good as the top 10-20 guys in his division and fighting guys ranked in the last 100. I bet any of the "Big Guns" (Paquiao, Barrera, or Marquez) of his division can knock him out right after fighting a major bout.
I don't get it. The guy's actually pretty good. He may not have good footwork but he has a good reach, great timing, and a lot of punching power that can push any good boxer into the corner or the ropes. He may not move like Manny or Morales, but he's a good slugger. Valero vs. Pacquiao would probably generate the same ton of money in terms of ppv as the Hatton fight. Though probably not as much as the Morales fight.
you can't compare this guy with Mike Tyson, if any of you have seen mike in his early career, his punches are like getting hit by a truck, there's no way you can compare this dude with Mike Mike Tyson is best ever
this Valero has manny things to learn,he boxes with low hands.when will he meet a true champ like pacman and others,he will be beaten by ko.he almost fought so weaks boxers.
THIS FOOL IS GOOD BUT. But Valero hasn't fought in the U.S. since 2003 and may never do so again because he's under medical suspension in New York. By federal law, whenever a fighter is under suspension in one state, other states must honor it. Valero's suspension stems from injuries suffered in a Feb. 5, 2001, motorcycle accident in which he wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered a fractured skull.
try looking for the time i posted that message...that was before Larios fought Linares..Yes i know Larios cant fight now, but Larios before this would win by a UD.
BTW, if Barrera, a shoe-in First Round Hall of Famer, a Mexican Legend, and one of the top 100 Fighters of All-Time, says he thinks Valero can beat Pac, then maybe he sees something that most don't see... I'll take his word over others. This will be a great fight to QUIET down the Valero and Pacquiao haters.
