We have a very impressive showcase of Bajiquan under what looks like Lei Tai or Sanda rules. The Bajiquan practitioner is a Kungfu artist named Chen Hao Zhe (陈浩哲), and he won an inter-kungfu tournament in 2019. Bajiquan 八极拳 is a style of Chinese martial arts that I definitely want to showcase more on Fight Commentary Breakdowns, so we'll have much more Bajiquan soon! Baji was apparently used by palace guards during the Qing Dynasty, so it might have a lot more pressure testing than some of the other more known styles. So Baji, like CLF (Choy Li Fut), is a top-tier style of Chinese kungfu. Also, I found a RU-vid channel that might be Chen Haozhe's, so definitely show him your support! More to come!

Great use of Baji here! Lots of traditional techniques like ducking under your opponent's hands into a shoulder bump to the chest, that back elbow to the body off the same technique, the spinning heel kick to the leg (Andy Hug was known for this move, it was nicknamed the Hug Tornado and he finished fights with it to the thigh/knee), those lead hand shovel hooks to intercept the Tongbei fighter's head movement, the lead leg trips and takedowns, all great stuff!

From older records that my grandfather taught me baji was first called bazi or raking hand and was essentially the solo practice for a military form of shuai chiao. It got the nick name of the body guard stile because the last empior as well as chang kai chek and chairman Mao's body guards all used baji. So it works very well with san da matches. that's mostly correct aside from categorizing Baji-Quan as a style of shuai jiao. while there are many shuai jiao elements in Baji-Quan, it's primarily a striking art. also it was used by bodyguards from way back in the qing dynasty and continues to be used by the Taiwanese presidential guards and special forces to this day.

Hey... nice video... My add for the "hands up" stance, is yes "hands up" if you want them to try kicks & stomach punches etc and the opposite "hands down" if you would like them to attack your head, neck area... This depends what your expertise is, maybe through strategy, you keep hands down, so they go for a punch to the head, then you intercept, catch it as you break their elbow... Bas Rutten talks about this strategy of getting the opponent to hit you where "you want!" Then you deal with it... as most people won't punch your head if your hands are protecting why? So having your guard wherever you want it as part of a strategy gives you and advantage.

It seems like he's doing a combo of jab cross or hook then shoulder charge. Before he does a take down. He could follow this up with an upper cut if he keeps getting his head grabbed because there is an opening for it. His punches are not flurrying which makes them with power. But the moment he can do a jab cross like a boxer, he'd be 100% better. Bajquan is like looking at a person who's an amateur kickboxer with judo skills. Not bad. Better than wing Chun. I suppose the mystic of ipman thru the movies really made wing Chun popular.

We can see the evolution the Thai arts took when they transitioned to ring sport, arguably with influence of western boxing.
@unmessable12
@unmessable12 2 года назад
IMHO it’s a little arbitrary to say a martial art isn’t “fully chinese” in a combat sport context cuz…yeah, striking combat sports are a pretty western phenomenon in origin. Aside from wrestling that had integrated striking there wasnt much thought given to striking duels/combat sports/consensual fighting in China or even Asia until western influence brought it there. Sanda, Muay Thai, kyokushin, all took influence from western combat sport in regard to striking. And for that matter a lot of the histories of these arts are muddled to begin with so who knows what’s fully Chinese and not. Karate took lots of influence from savate, Bagua took a lot of influence from western military/bayonet drills, etc.

Baji is much more effective than Wing Chun. This Baji dude has stamina issues and he should do more sparring. Also the head gear saved the Wing Chun dude many times, the Baji guy landed many pretty nice punches. Baji is awesome, it was good to watch. The Wing Chun dude had the advantage in high, reach and stamina, yet he got beaten up. Just give that Baji guy a little bit more stamina and he stomps. @@Stolas9 There's lots of bad Baji on youtube as well. That's true for any style, doesn't mean its ineffective. Wing Chun can be hard or soft. It is more flexible. Wing Chun is mainly about footwork and offense because its offensive techniques can also deflect at the same time. There's plenty of videos where Wing Chun stays Wing Chun. The main problem with modern Wing Chun is that most schools don't teach grappling even though its a big part of the style, but there are some that do.
@alexfpower
@alexfpower 2 года назад
@@Stolas9 Wing chun can be effective but It depends how you train/use it and how much pressure testing(sparring) you do before going into a real competition for example. There is a way to train wing chun internally that can turn anyone who is relaxed enough into someone with insane short range power. This can manifest itself in the wing chun practitioner barely moving when doing a strike with the body (at short range) dealing devastating power to the opponent. However to use wing chun at its fullest potential you need to understand how to use the body mass and all of its power into every movement while having the whole body unified together(requiring massive relaxation and consistent si nim tao practice to achieve this. At its highest level internal wing chun is probably the most effective of all CMA, but reaching that level is very very difficult and rare. Look up chu song tin if you wanna know where the highest level internal wing chun comes from.(hes passed away for a few years now but its amazing stuff). Baji is also mainly an internal martial art and if practiced to its fullest potential is amazing also. I remember practicing a basic baji form when I first tried it and I felt a lot of qi in my body, so I can appreciate its own flavour of internal potential.

Btw it seems they fought under sanda rules with restrictions e.g. no elbow/kick to the head.

Did you said Choi Lee Fut is one of the most efective Kung Fu? Im agree about Sanda. But you dont think Shuai Jiao is Kung fu? And what about the mix that Chang Tung Sheng has taught in Taiwan? I ve there and i think is the best chinese style i have seen, by far!!! (Im not kung fu student, i been pro in Muay Thai and MMA)

wing chun has some uses, it helps with re-wiring your natural reflexes and really close combat, against maybe untrained opponents, but that center line and chain punch is totally innefective in a combat situation, against someone who can actually fight, or maybe can fight a little bit.. Its pretty obvious because every time you see a wing chun guy in a fight his WC goes out the window. Bajiquan would give someone a good understanding of your grounding, thats why bajiquan people can be good at throws, they learn about staying grounded and lowering their center of gravity, plus they also have pretty strong elbow strikes, and other powerful strikes that uses the entire body.. as opposed to spinning your arms around in front of you like thats gonna do anything.

Is Baji the same as Bagua or Pakwa?
@camiloiribarren1450
@camiloiribarren1450 2 года назад
No, but it is implemented in the Baji training. Bagua is about walking in circles and looking for angles. Baji is more direct and forwards with their techniques Bagua: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--jR0Fn80fbs.html Bajiquan: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pxdk9yWgx-I.html

People forget that original Wing Chun was created for fast assimilation into troops. It was never meant to be a high level form of fighting. Bruce Lee had to modify it to make it work and he was brilliant because of his natural talents.

Pretty decent Bajiquan, but I saw no Tongbeiquan at all. Xinyiliuhequan and Tongbeiquan are not closely related beyond a few overlapping techniques. The better comparison would be to Xingyiquan, which was derived from it. I have trained all three, but also respect the hell out of Bajiquan. If I had to start all over again and ended up on a Bajiquan path I wouldn't feel bad about it. They are all solid styles, when trained and used properly. Simple and effective.
