If you think this drill could really help your game give this comment a thumbs up 😁. Here's the practice guide you can take away: www.dannymaude.com/good-players-do-this
I have recently lost my way on the driving range. Everytime I go, it all seems to get worse. I have to say thanks...I just went through a brief exercise incorporating your suggestions...the swing feels so much better. I plan to visit the driving range on Sunday...I'll let you know how it goes.
Wow! Thanks Danny. This tip is right on time for me. I definitely would like to have more power and distance. I have been doing a lot of slicing. Hopefully by doing this and using the Orange Whip training club I just got will help also?
Great Video as usual . One lesson I wouldn't mind seeing is short game suggestions and putting a spin on the ball . Let me explain . I played last week . Hit a great Drive straight and true . Second shot I hit a 3 wood and it landed about 30 ft from green . ( This was a par 5 ) . I used all your suggestions on the first two swings . I then hit my third shot which was straight and true towards the pin landed on the green but rolled by pin and continued some 40 ft past and came to rest some 20 ft off the green . 4 th shot chipped on the green and again rolled off some 10 ft off the green , 5 shot landed on the green again . ended up two putting . But my terrible chipping and ability not being able to put a spin cost me a potential Birdie . This happens to me rather often .
Great explanation Danny, went out this evening and tried this and could definitely feel the extra power and better impact. Only issue was hooking the driver occasionally, any advice. Keep the fantastic videos coming, your in inspiration to so many.
This is by far the best lesson I've seen, it is the core movement of the golf swing to ensure you come from the inside, keep your back to the target and throw the club from the top, great work Danny !!
I really need to say thank you! My game left me when I got cancer 11 years ago. I didn't feel well, my Flexibility and balance became bad , plus I have three kids (not a bad thing). Two years ago I had surgery for my torn rotatory and laburnum so I have probably played once or twice in the last 3 years. I went to the range 2 weeks ago and maybe had 5 descent shots. I was thinking about going to a pro but I decided to look on RU-vid last week and have seen 4 of you videos. They have changed me so quickly! My power is back in my drive, my chipping is back to where it was (probably better), and my irons have been great and fly straight (I do not miss my slicing). All of this is because of you! You make things simple and have great ways to demonstrate. Thanks you so much Sir!
Simple brilliance as ever, off to the range to get the feel of this before my round this afternoon, Thanks again for the unique way you explain things Danny. Top man!
@@DanielMaude Hi Danny, tried it on the Range yesterday and without question a game changer, will take some work (and trust) but when it happened the swing felt bigger, definately produced more power and the action forced me to turn more (which I have been struggling with) Bottled out on the course for obvious reasons, but it will be getting another work out today! Many thanks!
Nice Video clip! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy at last got amazing success with it.
Thanks for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great one off product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy at very last got amazing results with it.
Thanks for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (probably on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cooworker got great success with it.
I’ve been struggling with a slice and my strike for a while now so definitely going to be trying this out. Your videos are so simple to understand anyone can do them. Great job Danny👍🏌️♂️⛳️
Thanks Danny, make sense and I can feel it like you explained. I was always focusing on hitting down with the iron, but definitely missing this throwing out down swing. Will give it a try on the range.
This is literally my only swing thought- crucial to avoiding an over the top swing. Why do so few instructors teach this - why has it always been about holding the angles and firing hips with the belief that the arms will come down naturally (don’t recall there being a muscle connecting my hips to my arms!). such That motion has other benefits as it helps create width (free speed) and helps to shallow out the swing. It also helps to square the golf club as you are releasing the angles (with a driver this is essential as you will run out of time).
I agree that this move helps to release through impact. But if you start your downswing with your left hip, your arms WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW, because you're coiled up. Your body can't stretch, it's not elastic, so when starting the downswing with your left side your right side literally can't stay behind.
Great drill, clearly explained as ever. Thanks Danny, you have the best coaching content I have found on RU-vid. Off to the range to practice this drill.
Danny would it be fair to say that when doing this it is the body that starts it ? What I am trying to say it’s not just arms, I am working on body and then arms follow is this correct ? Great video as always chris
Thanks Danny! Your technique of “throwing the club” creating centrifugal force in your downswing is what Ben Hogan called his “magic move”. I finally understand it. It truly works! Bravo Mr Maude!
Seriously, I have seen this drill for years, but I finally got it. Thank you, this will change my golf to be real fun and prevent a lot of my back pain. I have struggled to create power and accuracy. been very static and in all kinds of positions. I have felt this feeling before, but never understood what I did that day when everything was easy. Finally, you made me understand it. Seen 20 videos now and you have made me think of golf in a totally different way and the feeling I get only by standing outside the house here practicing without a ball I have never experienced before knowing why :-) Keep up the awesome work. Look forward to learning even more from you. AGAIN THX :-) Trond F. Eriksen
Hi Danny! Thanks for the latest training drill but on a different note, I see the Mavrik bag in the background. So that is your choice of clubs following your announcement last week of a plan to make a change ?
Hi Maurice, I'm still using my Apex pro 16 irons at the moment so no change yet. Testing the Mavrik driver but I'm getting too much spin with it so may need to look at changing the shaft or looking at an alternative
Hi Danny, starting to get this down with my short to mid irons. Should the feel of throwing the head of the club back away from you while rotating be the same with the driver, woods, hybrids?
This is the only video I've seen so far that covers the "separation" that occurs on the downswing between the left side moving towards the target and the right side building momentum like a slingshot in the opposite direction (or something like that!) Feels strange but I'm sure that's because I've been doing the wrong thing for years!
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on RU-vid before but I had to for this video. Nothing has improved my game more than this lesson! It’s the first time the dynamics of the golf swing actually made sense to me. Every time I step up to the golf ball I imagine throwing the club backwards. This was a real game changer for me. Thank you, Danny!!
This is the exact lesson I needed. I’m originally a 115+ golfer and recently had lessons that got me down to the 100-110 range. I have a good feeling perfecting this will put me in the upper 90s
Danny I love you! My last round after losing my swing (again) and hitting slice after slice on the tee I decided to try this drill on the next tee box. Mind you I did this for 10 seconds before my preshot routine without ever having tried it. I proceeded to crush my drive 30 yds past my playing partners. I've been playing golf for YEARS and this was the first time that I felt like I could really go after the ball and actually transfer all the energy from my swing into the ball. It's such an amazing feeling!!! I've spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on lessons and watched countless videos on RU-vid. But you're the FIRST instructor I've watched that has been able to give consistent meaningful instructions that actually translate to fundamental change. Thank you for not holding back and sharing your wealth of knowledge. I just opened a craft beer bar here in NYC so if you're ever on this side of the pond, all the beers you want are on me!!!
Hey Danny, love the content and was wondering what your tips would be for my drive that’s going to high and not far at all and consistently striking my drive well. Thanks!
Danny , outstanding ! Jack Nicklaus talked about this at some point but I can’t remember where . I went out to my outside net and with only a few split grip moves I immediately started swinging my driver with this drill in mind and I ripped it every time ! Thank you ! If you could I would like your email address , ok ? John ( addendum ) found Jack’s tip : he said “ you can’t release too early providing you don’t cast and if you get to your left side first “ . Also , you’re too young to remember Jimmy Ballard , he called it springing the shaft going forward !
So I just watched the video about “unscrewing” the lid with the lower body and the upper body follows. Now your saying that I need to start the downswing by throwing the club down with the upper body while simultaneously rotating. Seems contradictory and definitely confusing. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have shown marked improvement especially in consistency but this one has left me scratching my head.
Thanks for the feedback Steve, I want you to imagine throwing a ball for a second. You do throw with your arm but it’s the feet and there movement that helps provide the slinging motion. Does this make sense?
This is one of your more confusing lessons. The problem you described is exactly my issue but your fix is very difficult to understand. Rotate your left shoulder whilst keeping your right shoulder back? Doesn’t seem possible. They’re attached to each other.
@@DanielMaude Hi Danny I am a four handicapper and have been struggling coming to far from the inside getting stuck and either flipping it or hitting it straight right , could this drill help me
Another brilliant video Danny. Your takeaway video helped my accuracy so much and I did this drill today and was hitting the ball way further on the range, while still hitting it straight. A few hooks mixed in there but I understand why due to your explanation at the end. Great stuff.
This is what I need! I have a decent back swing but tend to get steep with overuse of my right shoulder. Especially with driver. Thank you for sharing this gem! Will be trying out at the range today, cheers.
I am still confused over the initial downswing sequence, is it hips then shoulders (shoulders meaning the throwing motion Danny uses in the video) or will just thinking 'throwing motion' at the top of the backswing reflexively activate the hips , and therefore the entire sequence correctly?
Always the shift in pressure in your feet start the downswing. The key with this video is to sense that you always have pressure on the arc of the swing as you start down. Many great players feel this throwing action away for the targets as they start down
my pro has been getting me to do this, I did not struggle for distance but this has made a full club adjustment in my irons, he also gets me to hit wedges with my right hand only using the same feeling. great advise Danny, recommend to any slicers out there
Ask us to subscribe after you give us the content. It is such a turn off to subscribe to you without getting any knowledge first. Would you appreciate a car salesman to ask for your money before you take a test drive? I'm sure you wouldn't. Enough said.
Nick Brazier I used to slice A LOT with driver. What helped me was really focusing on “hitting up” at the all with driver. Rather than feeling like I was hitting down. It’s almost impossible to come outside in while swinging up at the same time. And get the club face square and your good. You will begin to feel the inside swing when swinging up.
Brilliant 👏🏼 I have literally just taught myself this after filming my swing, I was steep coming over to and having to adjust getting stuck and no rotation! Then taught myself to shallow out and come from in to out with rotation! Didn’t miss hit a shot after this
I notice your left hand is cupped at the top yet your hitting a slight draw. So what is closing your club face at impact? Rotating left while keeping closed?
Top drill Danny. Picked up on this a while back and is now a part of my daily routine for swing though training. Very well explained and a good exercise for all levels. 👍
So great drill that absolutely can help me improve a lot and hope I can play and look like a professioanl, haha. thanks Danny for your sharing so much.
Cheers for this, I've been looking for "backswing golf lesson takeaway drill" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.
This is a great drill! I tried this on the course today it was super helpful. Thanks so much. I been struggling in what to do with my arms, everyone says leave them up or hold them up and pivot with the body adding this with my pivot is just what I needed. Appreciate the content Danny!
Danny, you did a video about a year ago that addressed shoulder position at impact which talked about not turning your shoulders the same as the hips turn at impact. I cannot find that video, do you have a title i can search for?
As a woman you are my favorite 😘 for teaching me techniques and got me started in August of 2020 and your still my favorite golf pro for lessons. I'm now hitting the same distance as my husband 😂👍 who's been golfing for about 3-5 years
Body rotation , if the torso doesn’t rotate on the way back the arm takes over. On the way through if you rotate your arm so your elbow points towards the ground this would give you a great feeling. This one video could help ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O9NXV1IXII8.html
I like the move and torso stretch which allows me to use the right arm in the swing. I tend to come over the top when I get on the course and hit it sideways . Frustrating!
Hi Danny. I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for putting these out. In this one it appears as though you lose your lag early. I'd be interested in your take on that. My apologies if this question has already been asked, but I'm not reading through 647 comments. 😀
Yes I mention this in the video, the split hand drill will make it impossible to lose the lag as you would have to do something very strange with the lead hand
Hi Danny I think this tutorial is fantastic I have been struggle with "coming over the top" for a long time and Tried in diffrent way to change it. This turorial is a gamechanger for me Took this thought to The golf course today with a fantastic result. I know I need a lot of har Work but now I know how to do it Thank you Just a question should I start shifting The weigt befofer The backswing is completed or at the same time I start de downswing Again thank you
Danny Maude, this is the most brilliant lesson I have ever encountered. The concept of Casting never made more sense to me. We cast naturally when our right shoulder moves before our arms, like I understand you are saying Danny. When we move our arms like you teach, with the right shoulder back, there is no way one can cast even if he, she, wanted to because the elbows are on a down move at the same time allowing the 90° in your left arm and shaft to continue. I gave the exercise a try and I wanted to cast in purpose but the harder I tried the more centrifugal force was obtained since the elbows were on a free fall as well; then, the right shoulder would follow through the swing squaring up the club’s face with the ball. I have been studying the golf swing for quite a few years already and I believe this is the piece of the puzzle I have been meaning to decipher; what a fantastic job you did here Danny Maude, I applaud you loudly for that! Thank you sir, I will always give you credit for this, attentively, your amigo Jesus Alvarez.
Hanging the arm's down has nothing to do with curtailing power and accuracy. It's really just in the geo-physic's steps one creates. That's why you see so many pro's with closeness to the ball and arm's down getting some very good shotmaking.
Incorrect muscle memory can be devastatingly persistent. So often what feels right in the golf swing is flawed. Breaking the swing down into increments and coming up with a drill to retrain our muscles until the correct move “feels” right is the genius of a great teaching pro. Like you.
Danny does this apply to driver? I feel like when I try this with driver I am going to hit the ground way behind the ball? Btw I am absolutely over the moon with this drill I have been catching the ball fat for 6 months every single shot and this has totally transformed my golf swing. It’s so simple and effortless and the contact and distance has been amazing so far. Thanks mate 👍🏻
@@DanielMaude I was standing too close to the ball mate, gave myself some space yesterday only doing 3/4 swings like a 1,2,3 pumps then go and I was booming it about 230 yards just to get the feeling of it
I like the inside environment for this type of instruction. Width seems to complement your thoughts on a catapult motion as well. Great camera work on great instruction Danny. So helpful.
Can't thank you enough for this video Danny, after not being able to shoot Nett 78 or better for three years now, took this advice onto the course today, after one days practice, and shot Nett 61, won the local competition by 6 shots, forever Grateful 🙏 👍 😉 now have this Blister on the inside bottom of my Left hand, any Advise ?
Just simple and magic ! My wife was struggling with producing good contacts and now she enjoys playing. Thanks Danny. If you come in France, you're my guest.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for/needing as I have recently been trying something quite similar; to swing down correctly on the D/S but have been pretty unsuccessful, because I have not understood the whole picture which -as usual!- you describe very well! I suspect this sort of action is the one Davis Love (not sure which no for him!) has recommended. He likens it to driving in a post on your trail side first before you do much else. I have tried it but without the detail you provide, but never got anywhere with it. Having said that, only a few times in my practising, I have clearly got the right downswing plane and the ball just took off like a rocket. At the time just a mystery as to why. Now I know why and am looking forward to persevering CORRECTLY with the help of your advice! Thanks once again for your terrific work in these videos! PS Presumably the turning through in the right sequence helps to advance the strike and increase power without my perennial problem of too much attempted hand manipulation. Regards Ian Inverness PS I meant to add: presumably the momentary (very fleeting) pro separation you demo, is not of course readily visible to the naked eye?
LOVE your work Danny, you're a tremendous coach. Great concepts always. Any chance you could please change the background set up ? Was way better before when you were outside IMO... a bit dark and grim in the studio... Regardless, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Cheers.
Hi Danny -Great Video. Can you explain how this advice of actively straightening of the right arm pairs with the Catapult Method video’s advice of relaxing the arms? Thanks
Throwing the clubhead is really helping my swing, except with driver. Video shows me getting steep in the downswing, by throwing DOWN with my hands. Should driver pump drill be more toward the ball to keep my shaft flatter?
Hi Danny great video I subscribe to you and Mike Malaska as I think the two of you are the best You Tube coaches but I am a little confused as this motion seems to be the opposite of the “Malaska Move” can you reconcile this motion with Mike’s concept
Danny Maude the motion you describe is a very flat downward swing which surely has the tendency to raise the hands away from the body - where as Mike says like you to throw the club heel out ( not casting) BUT also to “tip” it forward so that momentum completes the swing - hands in club head out - maybe that’s just a feel?
David Marshall brilliant, that’s what I thought you meant. Like a lot of good players Mike likely hooked the ball and tipping the shaft forward is a perfect feeling as for hookers the shaft as you say would get stuck behind. The trail shoulder element of this drill is for those golfers that slice and come over the top. It’s a great feeling. In reality both never really happen as we make them look we are trying to help you feel what’s needed to hit cure your slice or hook...if you look back on camera it will look very different
I’m not sure you adequately covered the hook. Normal spinal tilt will have the right shoulder down at impact, otherwise you’ll top the ball. Please expand on fixing the hook problem. THanks.
Danny this works great for me with like 8 iron on up. But 7, 6 iron on down I push/push fade these clubs. The longer the club the worse it is. Do I need slow my rotation to hit these clubs straighter to let my hands and arms to catch up?
Danny, thanks following your advice my game has improved over course of season, hitting driver well 10 of 15 fairways hit or better, just need to turn fad into draw. Use a 15 year old Tommy Armour driver. Your drill to throw ball at target big help. A lot to work on but getting off tee onto fairway with some consistency is great start. Thanks again, Ken in New York.
Hi Danny great video. I actually have a closed stance at address and simply swing along this closed shoulder line keeping the rear shoulder back until impact. This gives me a slight draw or straight shot and has made an immense difference to my game. I only have one swing thought and that is to keep that rear shoulder back until I have hit the ball. This seems to be one of the most important factors of the golf swing and should be instilled in every casual golfers mindset.
I've got such a slice that the ball boomerangs. Pro: I never lose a ball as it ends up back at the tee. Con: my partner has to wear a helmet. I'd pay good money (hell my partner probably would pay just for his own well being.) To bring you to NY for the season to help me! Lol
