If you're retaining water then it actually may be your carbs. Carbs make you hold water weight, creatine is pulling water in the muscle cells so you shouldn't be having excess of anything you should become more vascular and more shredded.
I gained 5-6 pounds in a week and a half. I was taking 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. Also remember to increase your protein and water intake to at least a gallon a day.
