People who said Egypt won lost their mind. When Egypt failed to achieve its objective. These people start to "invented" some objectives to make it look like Egypt won, as if they live in Sadat's mind.

The thing is that I have noticed, never underestimate the opponents. That's what I have noticed about war doc's. I really like watching them. Good video, but it gives the impression that the Israeli Air Force did not play a significant role. They did suffer significant losses to SAMs early on, but adapted and ended up playing a significant role both against Syria and in the counter attack against Egypt.

around minute 19:30, it is said "with their surrounded soldiers rescued" or something similar. it's important to note that this is not entirely true, as some posts fell captive (out of 505 soldiers in the post-line, 126 were killed or are missing, 162 were captured, 65 stood still in a remote post unreachable by the egyptian army, and 123 were able to withdraw

I see a lot of nationalism and subjectivism on both sides in the comments, but the facts are what they are: the only ones who lost this war were the Syrians. Egypt demonstrated that it could be capable of carrying out a successful offensive against Israel, after years of preparation and making excellent use of the infantry with its anti-tank weapons (the Israeli army made the serious mistake of making a military doctrine in which they prioritized the use of tanks without the necessary support from infantry and artillery). But, the truth is that after crossing the canal and establishing defensive positions several kilometers from the canal, the Egyptians also made the inexplicable mistake of not maintaining their push into the Sinai (something that, together with Syrian pressure, would have left Israel vulnerable), giving the Israeli army time to organize, repel the Syrians in the North, stop all the Egyptian assaults launched late and then organize a counter-offensive that managed to cross the channel (using, now yes, the support of the infantry to clear the way for the tanks) and that if it had not been for international pressure from the USSR and the United States, they would have managed to surround the rest of the Egyptian troops that were defending the other side of Sinai and incidentally leave them to at the mercy of aviation (the attack created an opening in the anti-aircraft umbrella) or unable to prevent an advance towards Cairo that would have ended in disaster. It is more than obvious that the Yom Kippur War is a total draw (despite the fact that in this documentary, they want to give the title of winners to the Egyptians), the two sides had successes and failures on the battlefield, however Israel manage to overcome the score at the end; However, more than a military victory, it ended up being a diplomatic victory for both sides, since the two of that technical tie were able to restore their martial pride and at the same time sign a treaty that benefited them mutually, except for Syria (as I said above, the only loser), since the only reason Israel wanted the Sinai was to keep the attacks away from its border, a danger that ended with the final peace with Egypt and in turn the only thing Egypt wanted was to recover the Sinai, achieved it by recognizing Isreal, they both won (no one can say that they are above the other).

A lot of Egyptians claimed that Israel has military supremacy by US support. USSR Premier Leonid Brezhnev said otherwise: "We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Difficult to concentrate when the interviewee, the translator and the music are all playing at once.

I own actual Pics from this Battle, as my Uncle was a Reporter and Camera Man at the Battle and he left the photos to me knowing I was very impressed with hie time in the field of battel with only a Camera and a Pencil and Paper.

I was with the 82nd airborne. We was the first unit to deploy there as a peace keeping force. Then relieved by the 101st airborne in no November 1982

Nothing was mentioned that this war was also called the Yom Kippur War or The Day of Atonement War - a day of fasting. The Israelis were fasting on that day. That's why the Egyptians picked that day to attack.

Egyptian army is the first established army on earth and the human factor that lead to the victory as Egyptians fight in harsh conditions the desert.its no surprise, Egypt may get sick but never die.

The spokesman did a booboo at the beginning that the producer didn't catch. He stated, "The Sinai Peninsula . . . a vast desert in WESTERN Egypt." The Sinai is the northeastern corner of Egypt.

In the end, Egypt lost again, but somehow, they are proud of the defeat. It is like a tennis player who played against federer, played a brilliant 1st set, but in the end lost, again. Let's not forget that when they reached the cease fire israel was in the west part of the canal, 90 km from Cairo.

Why too many animation and why too little of any historical photos or video. The animation became distracting.

It was not mentioned but a big reason why the fighting stopped was because of political pressure from the USA and USSR on Israel and Egypt respectively. America was supporting and supplying Israel militarily and the USSR was doing the same with Egypt. In effect, it was a proxy war between the USA and USSR. American and Soviet military advisors were also on the ground and there was the fear that it would get to the stage where American and Soviet military personnel would get dragged into the fighting as well. This was something the 2 superpowers did not want and brokered a ceasefire.

I remember all of President Sadat's problems with the Soviets until he had enough of them and expelled them from Egypt before the war began. The Soviet Union wanted the situation to remain as it is and did not want Egypt to launch a war to restore its occupied lands. It was asking them repeatedly for weapons not like those serving in the Soviet army, but to make it even after Israel steps And they were meeting him with refusal for 5 years. Sadat asks them for weapons that contain technology, and the Soviets refuse and say we will provide you with defensive weapons and not offensive in nature. Weapon models. So old that they stipulated that Sadat should not use these weapons without their permission, knowing that Egypt was paying the price of this weapon to the Soviet and Arab countries and stopped spare parts before the outbreak of the war Until Sadat came to the conclusion that the Soviets did not care about the occupation of the lands of Egypt and all that concerned them was their interest with America until he expelled all the Soviet experts before the start of the war.

Nothing to do with actual documentary or politics, just a true little story and an opinion of an old man. In 1976 my family sailed from Italy to South Africa through Suez Canal, which was reopened to international shipping in 1975. The Sinai side, which before post Yom Kirup war agreement was held by Israel by was clear and empty, while on Egyptian side one could still see remnants of destroyed military equipment many of it Russian origin. My father, who was WW2 veteran, kept looking at it and nodding his head . When I asked why, he said:" Israel. They fought again, beat them up again, survived again, and took care of what was theirs -that was a win" .

Not many would know, but Nixon, who saw a potential ally in Egypt after Sadat snubbed the Soviet Union, played both sides during this conflict: He continued the American policy of diplomatically supporting Israel alongside placing a nuclear powered fleet in the Mediterranean in case Israeli Forces advanced too far into Egyptian territory.

Sinai peninsula is in the eastern desert of Egypt not west. It is to the west of Israel yes. But east of Egypt

1973 was a geopolitical situation, Israel wants direct talks with Arabs, refused 3rd rogers plan where they just retreat to mitla passes and ask for part of Sinai or to remain in some of sinais strategic positions, they also refused nonagression agreement offered by Egypt before the war were they would have security guarentees like today . Egypt just didn't want direct negotiations that dont involve the Americans. So sadat launched the war to involve the American as their weapons got destroyed by Soviet ones, as well as to break the idea that security alone guarentees peace .

My bunker from the time of the Italian occupation of the Adriatic coast, very good, up to 2.5m thick, had only one iron window, but the iron plate inside was concrete. Sager, or our name is Maljutka (Russian), hit a few centimeters above the window, but I, whose bed was behind the window, thought: I'm done. Everything shook. The whole bunker. the insurgent Serbs and the JNA were shooting from the vineyards and we showered them with machine gun fire. some stayed lying down and others ran away. I looked at the window where Maljutka hit. lay on the ground, only the top exploded and 2/3 remained whole. Cumulative rocket only affects metal. Lucky for us in the bunker though once we got a whole pack of 30 and some rocket from the plane hit the bunker and scratched it slightly. Croatian independence war. We Croats also had several T-55s that went to the mountain above Knin, the capital of the rebels, in 2 m of snow. In front of them, the bulldozers went and cleared the way. They overwintered hidden there for more than a year. When the storm started, they fired at Knin and went down and brought the town into semi-encirclement. Tactics with which we broke the resistance of the majority of rebel Serbs and the JNA in two days.

Planning, Quality of weapons, Discipline and proper training of troops, weather, Intelligence on your opponents strength and weakness, the will of your people(Nation). Taking those into account will lead to victory.

At just after 21 minutes, talking about the failed Syrian offensive, we see what are clearly Russian KV-1s and then at 25:54, talking about the devastating destruction of the Egyptian tanks advancing through the Sinai, there is footage of an Israeli M-51 burning - I don't think M-51s were used on that front.

The Egyptian army is defeatable and was defeated by the Romans, the Ottomans, Alexander and the British, but it returns again with strength.

Today this kind of tank battle is impossible. I mean this long. Both sides would have destroyers air-to-land ability to strike, Su-30 and F-22 Raptor, both originally to meet one and other in mid-air buth both now able to drop bombs and and other nasty stuff on the offence side infantry. And missiles, that is another story. ( I'm not saying that they have these modern fighters at any side yet but similar little older pieces of aviation art and craft like Su-27 and F-18 Hornet).

The importance of the war was to restore national pride, which it did. They did have much larger aims, and those were blunted of course. The offensive, against the wishes of Sadat's staff, only came about due to Syrian requests(demands).

The story is now told from one side unfortuntly , and this is always a big mistake for documentarians In order to make a strong documentary film, the story must be from both sides Then you will tell the whole story The Chinese farm was one of the biggest and strongest battles that took place during the October War, but we wonder who is facing who and what forces actually intervened to transform the results. And swings that happened Everyone who is talking now, with my respect, knows that they were fighting and behind them was a super air bridge that compensated their losses without any problems

Although this video is well produced it is inaccurate both geographically and contextually. No mention is made of the fact that the surprise attack occurred on one of the most holy days in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur. It would be the equivalent of Israel attacking an Arab nation on Ramadan. It would have been rightfully condemned by the world as a dastardly act. No condemnation of the Arab attack took place. No mention of the fact that the Israeli Intelligence raised the matter of Egyptian troop maneuvers with their American friends to be told not to worry, that it was only training exercises once more. A fatal mistake. How many times does the video have to show the Israeli soldier saying it felt like the whole Negev was trembling. So redundant. The war ended with the Egyptian third army completely surrounded and cut off from their supply lines, Prisoners of War, thirsty and hungry, humiliated and relying on Israeli compassion to allow UN help to save their lives. This humiliating defeat after an initial encouraging start to their war is omitted from the Arab narrative of the war trying to paint what was a humiliating defeat as a victory. It forced Sadat to accept Israel's existence, give up military aspirations and negotiate a peace settlement with Israel. Something Israel was prepared for all along. It was a wake up call for Israel and a morale downer but ultimately a stunning Israeli victory which forced the reality of the need for negotiations for Peace on Sadat. Syria never made that peace with Israel. Look at Syria today. Look at Israel today. Tell me who won.

It's funny Egypt was terribly defeated again, yet still they claim victory in that war.. It's like a sport fan claiming victory in lost game just because of an early lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. This is how the egyptian media and education system portrays this war, claiming victory when you are in reality routed and badly defeated.
