wahastini literally means "you made me lonely" from the Arabic word " وَحْشَة"

damn dude, im a native speaker of Levantine Arabic yet I can't get that Egyptian tone of voice lol ... you nailed it!!! you're a genius!!! btw, Egyptians say Masr instead of saying AlQahira, but yeah they pronounce the Qaf when they use the name AlQahira. another thing, raa7yah is more levantine-ish, Egyptians tend to shorten these middle vowels, so it's more like ray7a not raay7ah

Your pronunciation sounds exactly like how would Levant Arabs would pronounce the Egyptian accent (which is NOT the same as native Egyptians) Good job though :p

In Lebanon they use the verb ishtaq (to yearn for)," shta'tillak/-ik" for "I miss you". Same construct as in English. The French "tu me manques" is like the Egyptian "wahashni", the French "me" being the equivalent of the Arabic "-ni".

As an Egyptian growing up in America, I understood the intent of the phrases and words, but not always the literal meanings. This helps a lot. Thanks for posting. Please keep at it. Also interested in the differences in dialect between original Arabic and Egyptian.

I've been learning arabic in classes for aout 7 mos and on my own for about 10 and literally it has been the most frustrating thing of my life. what you did will literally cut my work in half. Egyptian Arabic is very different than Arabic like you said because we have many Coptic words, as well as Turkish and Greek. We speak a lot faster too lol. Egyptian Arabic words from Coptic (if it makes sense): No Arab country speak/use these words. imsāḥ, تمساح (Arabic), תמסח (Hebrew) - "crocodile"; ⲉⲙⲥⲁϩ emsaḥ; this subsequently entered Turkish as timsah. ṭūbah طوبة "brick"; Sahidic ⲧⲱⲃⲉ to:be; Bohairic ⲧⲱⲃⲓ to:bi; this subsequently entered Catalan and Spanish (via Andalusi Arabic) as tova and adobe respectively, the latter of which was borrowed by American English. wāḥah واحة "oasis"; Sahidic ⲟⲩⲁϩⲉ waḥe, Bohairic ⲟⲩⲉϩⲓ weḥi. تاتا = walk (baby) مم = food (baby) أمبو = water (baby) نونو = baby بعبع = monster بطح = hit in the head رخ = fall (rain) طنش = don't pay attention طوبة = brick سخام = dirt كحكح = old man خم = prank كركر = laugh مأأ = stare بح = finish حاتي = meat seller (from حات "meat") مدمس = cooked (bean) بشبش = make (something) softer وحويا = long live (Ramadan) بقف = sheep skin (insult) كاني وماني = ghee and honey Cheers! :D

For "wa7ashtani", you can think of French "tu me manques" or Italian "mi manchi" (and their equivalent in some Slavic languages), which have exactly the same structure. I think it's literally "you lack to me". I hope it helps. ;) Anyway I really like this channel. Keep it up! :)

hey guy i absolutely adore youre videos. i am myself half-sudanese and a speaker of that dialect, and i am so interested in all these diffferences between the dialects you show so well. but i think i need to mark out some misstakes you made, in this video you say something about kida كدا is absolutely egyptian only. we use it too :-) along with its variation كدي kadii.

and in one of your saudi videos, these are the one i enjoy most because its quite similar to sudanese somehow, you mention madrii مدري being saudi and egyptian. egyptian neither say it nor even understand it. but sudanese do both :-) second one, i would love if did a video on the magrebinian dialects, they are so different and even natives of other dialects have problems with it sometimes. so we need your help:-) Keep this stuff going

Normal to be confused :) such a complex grammer. "Wa7ashteni" means I've missed you. Yes past tense, but continueing, (I have been missing you and still missing you). That kind of sentences are used alot in arabic. Past verbs are somtimes treats as present. Regarding the gender: Wa7ashteni is told to a guy, But Wa7ashtEEni is told to a girl, same verb but press the E before the (N) .. But: "Wa7eshny" is another thing, it is a noun not verb, told to a guy. To a girl is (Wa7shAAni) add a long A

Just wanted to comment that فين is also used in Moroccan Arabic (pronounced as fiin, though, not as fayn in Egyptian Arabic). It has the same meaning.

"Feen" is used in Gulf. Even as interrogative: inti min feen? (Hijazi and Gulf dialects). Even mish kida (Gulf: muu kida) has its place. Phonologically, the Egyptian dialect is unique, but many of its features, as an evolving dialect, with differences out the main cities, can easily be linked to Arabic dialects on the peninsula. Anyway lemme explain to you the last sentence (وحشتني قوي - I missed you a lot) And if you were confused about the word of WahashtEni (BTW: Not WahashtAni) .. It letteraly means: You've mede me feel lonely. Wahashteni came from (Wahsha وحشة) which means loneliness, and this noun is used a lot as well. Wahashteni: You made me feel lonely. Share this info if you like to. I think Arab are very romantic, aren't they?
