I got the E&B sample set a year or so ago. Did not really dig any of them except Nuit de Megeve at first. Have been dipping back into them this month during this heat wave and have really been enjoying Memoires De Mustique, which I didn't expect. Coincidentally, I was actually looking for reviews of Champs De Provence yesterday, since that was going to be next in the rotation of high heat E&B experiments. Found the Scentinel's from four years ago in which he loved the opening, but found the dry down pretty blah. I remembered it from my last try on as being challengingly green in some way that I couldn't quite put a finger on and I think you nailed it, Ash.

Fascinating - your experience mirrors mine nearly exactly. I love the first 3-4 minutes of this fragrance but then it turns funky really quickly. It's quite off-putting to me, to be honest. Nuit de Megeve is the only fragrance that I really enjoy from the house, but boy, it sure is short-lived.

I feel like I had a similar experience when sampling the new Acqua Di Gio EDP. Don't know if it was because of skin chemistry or what but the opening smelled amazing to me, but after a couple minutes it turned into an overwhelmingly musky scent that smelled like sweat. It's kinda crazy how misleading a fragrance can be sometimes lol.

I got same issue with ADG edp, also with PR Invictus. In general with every Invictus type of scent.

Wearing it right now… I love green notes and this frag does it for me. I do agree on the funkiness on the dry down it is a little weird but somehow it feels okay with me? Maybe i’m justifying the price I paid 😂.

It is well known that Stetson was John Wayne's favorite scent and the name actually derives from his favorite hat he wore in his westerns ... Old Spice (real name Judy Dench) was the other Spice Girl that was cut out of the group before they became famous but not before the fragrance brand got a hold of it and liked it ... nope ... ALL not true I just made a fictionalized fact ... see how easy it is. 😁

I have a problem with Jasmin too. I only have a few Jasmin fragrances (intentional) and the only one that worked for me was BDK Wood Jasmin. It seems like other houses use Jasmin in the heart to bring a wonderfully bright, fruitful or crisp top, back down to Earth and buries it under a bed of compost. If I'm lucky, the fragrance is just transitioning through the Jasmin with the finished scent being some type of wood base. But I can never wait that long to see. I'm already disappointed.

As long as there's a disclaimer, I don't mind a nice and comforting fictionalized story. Otherwise, it's just straight up lying for money. Did I mention that I'm descended from Jesus? Yeah, probably not true. I don't have a mexican heritage.

Here’s the thing - I like the real stories. i.e. “Our original chemist sold their IP to Acme Investments where we hired a decent marketing team, some B-level designers and the. outsourced formulation to large perfumer in Europe. Our board meets quarterly and votes on new lines that management presents based on feedback from our market research decision”

Wikipedia even still has them listed as a 262 yr old company - but then has a section talking about the issue with that.
