To those asking about the language, it is føroyskt which is the beautiful language of the Faroe Islands. Its roots are in old western Norse so it has similarities to the nordic languages, especially Icelandic.
@@WendyLangMusic I'm sorry I don't, not being Scandinavian myself. She did speak about the drum in a video on here a few years back, may be worth a search.
The title means "spellbound". You could imagine a viking maiden sing like this, since the faoese language is very close to what the vikings themselves called "tongue of the danes" (aka "old western norse")... It almost sounds as if she "galdra", sings magic sounds and words, in answer to another "galdra", a spell that is binding her heart... Greetings from the land of the Danes, Denmark...
@@amaranthhierophant186 so you assume he/she doesn't know just because of the "greetings from Finland" part? Instead of thinking it was just a Finn expressing his/her liking of Nordic music and added the greeting at the end because it was a comment from a Finn to a lovely woman from the Faroese? thinking slightly often helps ;) (though I understand it can hurt to do so at times)
TRANSLATION: Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound deep in my soul, in my soul In my heart burns a sizzling fire, a sizzling fire Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root My eyes gaze to where the wizard stood
This is both of those. The question remains: "Will you also join the song and let yourself be drawn into its truth, even if that means that you may also not exist, but rather become a part of what is more?" Once you hear this magic and understand its call, you must choose.
Hey Out There . . . Not many understand how powerfull and old Skandinavia Spirit are . There are many that are lost in the modern life . . . But some keep the strong Spirit a life just like Eivor . . . and she is so lovely . . . Love from Danmark
@@CaPPeD007 He obviously refered to the singing and the instrument. Today's music, the crappy cheap chart music especially is full of electric genereated "beats" and to death autotuned "singing".
I typically listen to various types of punk, rock. Stumbled across this on accident. Wow. Just wow. I don’t understand the words, but her voice conveys emotion like no other. Amazing. I will have to branch out into foreign music more often. I’ve been cheating myself.
I have chills running throughout my body... her voice is witchy and soothing at the same time. You really do feel like your back in time with the ancestors. She's beautiful and with such talent. Amazing control. I'm in awe!
My soul resonates completely with this beautiful song. I feel it's ancient thread deep within me while she sings and her guttural sounds give me images of magical forests and beings from long ago. It's much closer to nature than the music in America we have today. It seems we have grown too far away from our Mother Earth.
Chills from the first second to the very last. she is astronomically talented. I have seldom heard a voice so versatile and controlled and yet rich with a cultural texture which is intoxicating.
She is enchanting. I cannot understand what she is singing, but she gives me warm chills and I find her spellbinding. I think she has pure talent and it is obvious she is a world class singer.
I've had the priviledge of attending Canmore folk festival 2 years running (2006, 2007) and experiencing this absolutely amazing artisit both times. I have never heard a vocalist with the range, power and tallent either before or since. Every time I hear her sing I'm transported back to the high country and I relive the experience of the most beautiful voice in the most beautiful place on a crystal clear summer night with a billion stars in the sky. And I am so grateful. Eivor was "discovered" and encouraged to come to Canada by Bill Bourne. She was only 19 yrs old the first year at Canmore and a bit nervous on stage but wow. The second year she was still nervous but had added an extra octave to her range and it couldn't have been more amazing. BTW I have never seen a picture or film of her that comes anywhere close to doing her justice.
I tried to wrote yes u right, eurovision was so better beffore when we all have oportuniti to show our languages and a few of souls in those songs melodies but today when all is just usa trash music wannabe.. but then. my second thought was.. wait a minute.. how the hell u even got eurovision in ur mind after u listen this masterpiece ? I mean how u could even put this in eurovision context haha.. this is nothign with eu songs.. this lady is shaman with mic..
ABSOLUTELY HAUTNINGLY BEAUTIFULLY INCREDIBLY AMAZING... OMG...what a power coming out of that voice...and the drum helps resonate that power all the way to Valhalla...wow..bravo
Bring Paganism back, a respect for music of the earth, drumming to the beat of the heart, a connection to the earth, and responsibility to the rivers, grass, air and all that dwell upon her.
You're a dumbass for saying poor morality. Pagans have the highest sense of moral value of any other culture. We value life and spirit more than a hateful bigot like you.
Paganism isn't a religion though? It's a group of religions that all got jammed together and are now assumed to be all the same thing. Some pagan cultures weren't all that friendly, but some were. And it's not like Christianity has any room to criticize any other religion based on morality, because they were awful to literally everyone lmao 😂
I mean, what else would you do after singing a song? I'm sure it's amazing to almost all of us because it's not our culture, but to her it's probably something she does frequently xD
Vod Stein Glad to have you on board as a member of the Ignorant Masses otherwise what would would those great souls including Lao Tse, Krishna, Quan Yin, Lord Maitreya and other Great Ones do with their time if they weren't trying to enlighten you?
I've watched this LOOONG ago and recently I remembered this lady and I wanted to see her again but I forget her name I'm reaaaally glad I found her... I appreciate this more now!
It's beautiful. So powerful, so vigorously, this song just makes my blood burn (in a good way). She sings, she growls and she plays the drum, and all of this at the same time! She is a queen!
Awesome...I really didn't expect something great like that...what happens if you roam RU-vid for some good old Black Metal...you wind up with Wardruna, Valravn and finally this...I love it...:-)
This is the rawest and best performance I'd ever seen! I'm Norwgian, we're nabors and good friends with the people from Færøyene, also called Faroe Islands. Man, what a girl! Love her!
The sounds she resonating in her throat maybe actual reference from Mongolian culture music. It sounded Very familiar as to where she had reference from. the noises she make remind me of traditional Mongolian vocals. I wouldn't call it savage though X)
Words can‘t express how much i love this... and the woman performing it... All i can say is that i never feel as alive as when listening to this... and that it literally has saved me from losing hope and my mind a couple of times... Thank you... Beautiful... 😘
Thanks H. Fenix. I guess you‘re right... i do have „company“, may be not the right one? I‘m certainly not MY best company... but there you go... Be good and take care...
@@eugenef.vidocq7186 Maybe a spiritual group could help...you'd meet new & often interesting people, such as Zen Buddhism, Tai Chi, Yoga, Eckhart Tolle's or the like. You seem spiritual and very aware of your own situation. These are not easy times but you never know. Again, best of luck and take care.
Its on the album Slør and brings out more of the range in Eivør's voice and a live version on the album Rain. Beautiful videos and storytelling, well worth bingeing on. Makes one want to visit the Fear of Islands...but it's not cheap!
She can stand just alone with her voice, without any instrumental backup. Ιf that isn't amazing I don't know what is. The things she can do with her voice... wow. I clicked the live of 10.08.13 by accident and I am listening to her 6 Hours straight... I am mesmerized.
Absolutely incredible, embodying both wild innocence and raw warrior power in one, with such a deep connection to the roots of your land emanating through your music. Thank you for this and for the richness of your spirit xx
@@somegirl558 Yes really! The innocence of that which is pure and in its natural state, the innocence of nature, the innocence of one who is not pretending to be anything other than it is.
I want to comment more about this video and performance, as everything in it right... Simple black background, some microphone stands to hint that it is a stage. This young woman dressed up somewhat like any player in opera or consert orchestra. Only with her drum and voice doing something different indeed. I think this "set" gives room for what she does. Nothing else is needed. As I was a professional dancer 10 years in my youth and worked with the most talented and dedicated modern ballet people in Finland, I know how much work and dedication it takes to do something like this. Later in life I spended 10 years playing with cameras and I could boldly say that I am an award winning documentarist. So that is why comments on video too. It is for sure the best version of this song. The way it is performed here, the correct "arena" would be any big operahouse or conserthall in the world. It makes me so happy to see something like this.
No, I believe the correct arena would be the hills of the Faroe Islands, or any hills really, a large fire, with native people gathered around it, watching in awe, as she connects them with the world of Gods and sprites, giving them the power to get through another battle, invasion or even just another day. That’s what this music does to me.
Emily Bryn I thought that was her, I looked on IMDB to find it to no avail! Didn't get a chance to look elsewhere yet, just came here to share this video that I had seen years ago, and question answered! :-D
thanks for ur reply, i'm in love with tribal Scandinavia, by the way , i love your name. . . check out my art at deviant art, rene-elementos.deviantart.com/gallery/
