Hi the WOLF, Welcome! I'm honored! IF You're going to be swapping them out often, stick with silicone Thermal Pads. IF this is a permanent installation, go for the ones with a Higher Thermal Conductivity Rating. Those feel like they are made of clay and are fragile. In other words, one time usage. @@BuildOrBuy thanks so much for your recommendations with affiliate links! would you say choosing one of the three vendors of those pads would be better than replacing them with the stock ekwb 120x24mm (.5 & 1.0 thick) pads? the replacement pads are for a samsung 970 pro 512gb. I also have a wd black sn850 1tb. if any of those 3 choices are better pads for either drive, i will purchase 2 sets and swap the pads on the sn850 as well. yesterday my pc (currently asus x570 tuf gaming plus wifi with a 3900xt in a corsair obsidian 750d non airflow with all noctua fans including the fans on the corsair h115i pro 280mm cooler) ran a benchmark of the sn850 in m.2_1 (above gpu) on crystal disk mark and hit a high of 71°c with stock ekwb m.2 heatsink pads. this mobo/cpu/cooler will be passed to my girlfriend and i have a 5900x with noctua nh-u12a and an asus tuf gaming x570 pro wifi ii ready to swap in!

Hi@@three36ixx, Absolutely! We have so far Tested 14 Heatsinks. All use silicone Thermal Pads. Of those v4 Heatsinks Tested, the EKWB was not on the top of the List at reducing Heat. Anything that can help would be the Thermal Pads. One of the replacement Thermal Pads is also silicone. The higher Thermal Conductivity of Thermal Pads are a clay like material and are not reusable like the silicone. If Vendors do not tell Us the Thermal Conductivity of Thermal Pads, expect the worse or less. Therefor replacing stock Thermal Pads with something We know the Thermal Conductivity value of makes sense. How much better are results? Mixed. The two made of clay are very similar in results. Get whichever one is in stock and whichever one is a better price regarding the clay like Thermal Pads. Hope that helps! Success on Your Build!

Hi broderick shelton, Welcome! Be Quiet makes two. The Be Quiet MC1 and MC1 Pro Heatsinks. The Be Quiet MC1 Pro Heatsink has a Copper Pipe and is thicker whereas the Be Quiet MC1 is thinner. Which do You prefer? Be Quiet MC1 Pro Heatsink will be the most effective.

@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 3 года назад
Hi@@Tesseus, Welcome! Thank You for Your Comments! Much Appreciated! To reiterate what I said to broderick, Be Quiet makes two. The Be Quiet MC1 and MC1 Pro Heatsinks. The Be Quiet MC1 Pro Heatsink has a Copper Pipe and is thicker whereas the Be Quiet MC1 is thinner. Be Quiet MC1 Pro heatsink will be the most effective but as You said, is too tall. You made the right call even though it's too tall. It's all about Heat dissipation. That's a very important question We're trying to solve and address especially for a NUC just like on a Dual M.2 NVMe Adapter as well as a Quad Adapter that does not include a Heatsink. Noctua demonstrated diamonds on a Heatsink 8 years ago! None of these are perfect. And changing any one value changes everything! For Your Requirements, this will have to be a Drive with an enclosure on the Drive such as Gigabyte is doing with either Copper or Nanocarbon Aluminum or another Vendor who is using Ceramic. 1. Gigabyte Aorus NVMe Gen4 M.2 2TB PCI-Express 4.0 Interface High Performance Gaming, Full Body Copper Heat Spreader, Toshiba 3D NAND, DDR Cache Buffer, SSD GP-ASM2NE6200TTTD [PCIe 4.0 1st Generation] amzn.to/3zVO8F4 2. Gigabyte Aorus Gen4 7000s SSD 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2, Nanocarbon Coated Aluminum Heatsink, 3D TLC NAND, SSD- GP-AG70S2TB [PCIe 4.0 2nd Generation] amzn.to/3he6F8k As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Hope that helps. This is by no means a done deal. We're still Testing. The next 2 or 3 Heatsinks We've been asked to Test will not work in a NUC. We're still looking and searching for a better Solution. With PCIe 5.0 closing in, there will be better options soon! Thanks for Asking! Stay tuned!

Isn't it about time that motherboard layouts are redesigned to cope with the extra heat generated by the newer components? Motherboards have had this layout since I bought my first 286 computer years ago.
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 3 года назад
Hi Mark Harrison, Excellent Question! Remember when We went from AT style to ATX style? Had to dump some great Computer Cases back in the day for only that reason! And remember when Intel introduced BTX? Ugh! Granted We need better Heat Dissipation technologies. Noctua demonstrated diamonds about 7 or 8 years ago. Interesting to see what Vendors are doing now in advance of PCIe 5.0! Carbon Fiber Nano technologies. I missed 286s for the most part. I only worked on one. And that was enough! I started with 8088s. Then jumped to the 386-16. We thought We were hot stuff with a smokin Computer! We had ceramic thermal plates 20 years ago but not much was done with that. M.2 NVMe Drives of the future I expect will have a self contained heatsink due to size. We shall see!
@maxhughes5687
@maxhughes5687 3 года назад
Hi Mark. the E-ATX boards are covered in stuff and the gear just gets smaller transistors clocked higher and hotter. Sh t man, get the biggest case, fans, radiators, P/S and copper water blocks you can find. I've already had to get my system on a different power breaker from my 4K monitor and tiny stereo amp. Unless you have money to burn you'll want the best A/C power line conditioner money can buy. I've changed my mind. There is such a thing as a black hole.

I'm getting the EKWB EK-M.2 to replace the default heatsink on my Gigabyte Aorus Z690i mini itx motherboard because there is a clearance issue with the Noctua U12A cpu cooler. Would the EKWB EK-M.2 heatsink be fine for my Western Digital SN750 SE? it's supposed to be about less fast than the WD SN850 so i'd assume it'd need less cooling.
