#speakerreview, #elacdebut, #Klipschrp600m #rp600m Maybe an odd comparison but the Elac Debut b6.2 sounds more like a Klipsch than an Elac. Elac Debut b6.2 - amzn.to/2IgzQcy Klipsch RP600M - amzn.to/3p6BMox
Nice review, I returned the elac a few days ago. The build quality and vocals of the elac was amazing..yet it left me wanting. So I ended up going with the Klipsch RP 160M over the elac 2.0 B6.2 . The Klipsch just sounds fuller when louder and better highs. I think this comes down to a matter of taste.
Been living with the Elacs for awhile. I just got the Klipsch today. I’m using a super budget amp. The Sony 190. It’s only been a couple days, but the Elacs definitely are harder to drive; which makes sense based on their impedance and sensitivity. I can’t wait to spend more time comparing the two. Love your videos BTW.
Each time the elacs went from 50% off to 40% off I managed to get 2 towers, 2 bookshelve speakers and a center. Which is a total steal of a deal! And now knowing how close they can get to these klipsch for a fraction of the cost, it makes me happy about my "poor mans klipsch rp600m's"!
I got my B6.2's for $150 on a black friday sale a couple years ago and I couldn't believe the value. For me, they sound best with a warm amp with decent power.
Seems Elac do not go to sale anymore in the Uk. Now from £290 - even £600 +! Found pair for £300 think should pull the trigger or do you think new stock or release going to happen soon for better price to value?
I suspect the difference between the two is a direct effect of the compression caused by the horn in the Klipsch. If the Klipsch is less "finicky" that the Elac with certain recordings - then what begs the question: WHAT can cause a speaker to be less sensitive audibly. Mathematically - it's COMPRESSION which reduces audible variances in dynamic range. This also means that the Elac MUST be higher in fidelity to the source signal - resolving those differences in dynamics..
Would you do a look back video and compare these again ? The Klipsch are routinely found for $349 and the elac are $399. Just a thought and thanks for the content
I have those Elacs paired with an Emotiva T-100. The thing about most Elac speakers is what you put into them is what you are going to hear. Klipsch has a certain 'sound' that will usually transcend the recording. Not saying either is necessarily better.
I ordered a pair of Elac b6.2s today. Front port is probably better for the bookshelf application that I'll be using them for. Also, I'll be using a 50 watt per channel Fosi amp. I know, everything I've heard, and read, says that won't be enough power to make these shine, but lower volume listening is what I do. I'll let you know how that works out.
Just wanted to jump in and provide my experience: I paired the Elacs with my 50w Rega Brio amp, and it’s getting plenty of power and volume….I’ve never turned the knob passed the 11 o’clock position (which is loud).
Couldn't make it to the end of the review, the coffee slurping was too annoying, please stop with this nonsense and drink your coffee before making the video.
Yes, yes, and yes. Did I mention that yes, it is. Klipsch are way more forgiving with placement have better bass and are a significant step up from these Elacs.
The more I listen to different speakers the more I realize they are more similar and alike then they are different. I also EQ all my speakers with mini DSP for flat response during listening. I have a couple thoughts about bracing and resonance. I think there are two main ways of dealing with resonance in a speaker. Either you work extremely hard with special materials and extra bracing to rid the speaker of all of the resonance OR you design the speaker with a specific resonance frequency in mind and tune the speaker to work with that resonance. So, to say one is better than the other by the sound of rapping a knuckle on the enclosure might not be accurate. If the enclosure is smaller, it will also most likely have a higher ptich when tapping on the box. Just thought I'd share my thoughts. Keep up the videos. Nice work. Sometime Soon, I might give this is a shot since I have the camera's mics, and now a few speakers.
Yes, and Klipsch did use the resonance of the box to their advantage with the RP-600M's. The cool part is that the piano black has a different resonance and sound than the matte black. The piano blacks sound better according to Steve Guttenberg Audiophiliac.
Great channel, thank you. Can you make a video comparing Elac C5.2 vs C6.2 centre speakers. Looking to buy C6.2 bookshelf speakers and wanting to know if best to pair with C6.2 centre or pay less for C5.2! Thanks again for great content. 🫡
If you compare a speaker using music will this usually translate into movies too? If one speaker sounds better listening to music does that mean it will also sound better than the other one with movies? And does anyone have any experience with the ELAC and Klipsch center channels? I also compared these two speakers and was only able to do a good test using music. And the to me the ELAC won. But I was told this doesn’t mean it will sound better with movies. I was also told that Klipsch centers are better than the ELAC centers. And advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
BTW... You know that sound you were talking about with the original Elac Debut B6's where the sound stage was crazy all over the place? Well i hooked up a Jamo C912 Subwoofer to the Elac Debut B6.2's & now the sound stage has turned into this holographic 3-D event where i'm getting sound all over the place like you described with the original Debuts. It's just more sharp, and articulated with the advancements made by Andrew Jones on the newer B6.2's. This may remedy your opinion on the later model because i know you didn't like the 2nd ones by themselves for that very reason, the subwoofer fixes the problem you were talking about with the 6.2's. I know you judge speakers by themselves, but it seems it was intended for a subwoofer by design....
@@donwmz yeah, I was worried that 90wpc wouldn't cut it but it seems like enough and I have a schiit modi so im not too worried about sound quality. Thanks for the quick reply
@tomvanpeteghem7677 Snap. It's February 2024, and I'm collecting a Rotel A11 Tribute this Friday. I'm also buying speakers that will have to be placed on wall brackets. The Elac B6.2s were made for this scenario. The Dali Oberon 3s and the Triangle Borea Bro3s are the other contenders. Decisions. What speakers did you eventually buy?
Just a tip, cheapaudioman's speaking cadence is slow....(especially since he slurps coffee along the way), so speed up the video to 1.25 and get through the review without pulling your hair out.
I demo'd the elac at crutchfield a couple weeks ago...along with several other speakers. I been wanting to upgrade my speakers for a few years now. But I was quite surprised to hear that my Advent Legacy paired with a pair of Bose 4.2 series II hooked up to a Marantz 2245 sounds almost just as good as speakers costing close to $1,000 & over $1,000 that were hooked up to a $3,000 rotel amp & a couple other not as expensive amps. Apparently my set up is much better than I thought! I just got back into hifi a few years ago & piecing together a stereo one component at a time & my speakers were my weakest link. Or so I thought. The only problem is the Advents & Bose take up a lot of space & I need something smaller....
Now, I'm not a Bose fan but they were basically free. The Advents are ok. They have good bass. Good treble. But they lack mid-range. The bose on the other hand don't have very good bass or treble but have pretty good mid-range. So, together they actually sound pretty damn good. After hearing much more expensive gear hooked up to much more expensive speakers, I'd actually keep what I have....if only I had enough space for it all.
The RP600M's will be my next big purchase in audio. Just don't have it now, so I got the B6.2's. For my application, I'm looking forward to the front port design. (Have to be on actual book shelves very close to the wall) Any advice you have is welcome, and appreciated.
Good to see you're not unkempt this time. But, with as many burps as you're holding, I'd like to hear a sonic belch through the Klipsch and ELAC to determine the best speaker.😄
@@cheapaudioman, All fun aside, I appreciate your review because I'm still trying to decide between the ELAC and Klipsch. For years, I've used a base reflex type speaker (ex.HPM 500). Now, I'm looking for a small pair of speakers that will have less impact against the walls. Right now, I'm tending towards the ELAC.
@@SteveTheFazeman the Elac has very good bass response away and they did a great job with this speaker. Either way one goes with these two it would be hard to imagine someone regretting their decision. They are both great but for different reasons. Personally I prefer the Elacs but I have and will keep both. The Reference is just so well done. Rich and detailed all at the same time. It’ll rock when it needs to but will be refined as well. At $600 it’s a stretch for most. I wish this would drop to $500.
@@cheapaudioman, The 600M is $439 on Amazon. Apply for their credit card and that knocks off another $100. ELAC is $249 - $100 with the cc application. Can't beat that. I was binge watching your videos and saw the Saturday shoot out with the Bro vs the others. Cracked up at how you looked over at the Bro to drop the bad news. Anyway, you have an informative and fun presentation. I'll pick my winner soon and much thanks for your advice.
I read somewhere that some speakers are designed to be less inert (maybe it was Harbeth or one of those similar?) so that the cabinet resonates at a lower frequency and is thus less audible. Have you ever heard of this? What do you think?
I know some companies, Q accoustics for example, really concentrate on getting cabinet resonance reduced as much as possible. I'm not exactly sure but I know there are a lot of design considerations to mitigate resonance of the cabinet so it definitely makes a difference.
Hey man, what do you do with all the equipment that you buy for these videos? I have the Elacs paired with another pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers in my Basement studio / mancave (hate that term but it does fit as my "space" - now home retired with the wifey). The Flus are good and these 2 play together nicely. BUT like all music lovers, I seek vene better sound. I'm looking for either tge Klipschs or Triangle BRO3s to replace the Flus.... or maybe another pajr of the Debut 6.2s (on sale for $249 on Amazon).
