I love seeing those amazing bunched up elastic fibers in elastofibroma dorsi! Benign but beautiful. For imaging findings in elastofibroma, check out this nice page on Radiopaedia.org: radiopaedia.org/articles/elas...

I think I have one of these. How rare is it?

Very interesting. I probably will have to have the surgery, because it is causing problems with breathing and sever pain in my right breast. I had a mammogram that was good and a chest x ray almost a month ago. I see the surgeon Monday, he has also done two other procedures on me with my rotor cuff. there is not a lot of information on this subject.

Can we explain why it would be found elsewhere? Had one pulled out of my colon.

Wow I have never seen one in colon. Not sure how or why that would happen actually.

Hi Dr. Gardner. I think I may have this. I have received 2 MRIs and a CT scan and a mass appears under my scapula in the serratus anterior muscle. Upon googling other cts and MRIs it appears similar to mine. No drs have diagnosed me yet and seem unsure what it is. On my scans everything comes back normal . So I am at a loss. Any suggestion on where I should go to have my scans reviewed to see if this is what it is? Any suggestions will help. Thank you!

Orthopedic oncologists are orthopedic surgeons who specialize in bone and soft tissue masses (even though the name says “oncologist”, they deal with many benign conditions also include elastofibroma Dorsi). You may have to visit an academic institution (like a university hospital) or other large hospital system to find an orthopedic oncologist but that specialty is usually best for dealing with soft tissue masses. Best wishes for health and healing.
