You need to re-install the SW when new gen handles are installed. Can be done from the service-menu.

I hope the new Lithium 12v batteries do last as long as the main battery. At least that is what Tesla has said. 9:45 - SuperfastMatt (former Tesla engineer) has a RU-vid video "Tesla is Lightyears Ahead Of ... Tesla" about the re-designed Model S door handles. Much improved design.

When the trunk cinq actuator get stuck like yours, unplug the controller for the trunk. It's located in the trunk, right hand side behind the cover. Unplug, replug, until it lets go. Then you remove the left handle in the trunk and unplug the actuator wire, then it works again but can't pull it completely shut. Workaround until you get parts :)

I used electrical tape and added more and more layers to that front door window area until the wind noise went away in my classic S. Great video!

Nice video and I like that you film how an older Tesla can be kept working! I'm not too impressed on the durability of the Tesla components though, @13:44 Tb correctly states that fossil cars can develop similar problems when they get older, however the VW T4 transporter shown must be about three times older than the Tesla. I hope Millenium Falcon also can be kept working in twenty more years.

Yes, but keep in mind the very high mileage on Millennium Falcon. That VW Transporter probably has less than half the km traveled.

@@rkan2I think these Transporters get som 300 kkm during 20 years. People that use them aren't driving around all they long, they are actually working and mostly somewhere nearby, but they don't wash them very often and that's why the rust starts to spread almost all over the cars.

The battery warning is just a simple "below some set voltage" and does not help you with identifying a bad battery discharge rate. Lights and stereo might still work, but it's not enough for electric motors and solenoids (e.g. frunk, trunk, charge port lock).

No its not. Its monitoring battery life and not just voltage. Voltage is also monitored for current charge state. They are refering to life.

@@TschingisTube sure you can monitor voltage and charging current, but the discharge is still unknown, hence the issue at hand. I swapped the 12V battery on a 2018 Leaf for the same issue two weeks ago. Everything seemed to work fine, but the charge port lock didn't operate so the charging could not start. No errors as the 12V was over the limit, and the battery still took a charge. Typical issue in colder climates.

@@ralfn5075 And that is the reason why you monitor battery life, its the amount of remaining capacity which is evaluated over time by constantly monitoring. Its nothing that you can find out by just looking a one metric the battery can right now provide.

@@BBingo-v5i oh there are many examples where a new engine cost you more than a used example of the particular model where the engine failed. In most scenarios the total cost of an engine replacement job is a third till almost half the price of the car when it was brand new.

@@BBingo-v5i I don't disagree that over time EVs accumulate a lot of costs, especially for vehicles in this 1st (or second? idk) generation, during which a lot of things still had to be learnt regarding manufacturing and longevity. I agree that replacing the battery is not sustainable, but who says it is? The intention of my original comment was to praise the fact that they were able to get this car driving again, without replacing the battery, while also improving the car as a whole. Things like pointing out the places where rust accumulates or how many valves had to be replaced on the battery are valuable points of information for manufacturers, as these are the parts which could use more attention in design. I like Tesla's and EVs, but they're not perfect (like any car). Regarding the last part, do you think I'm a toxic Tesla fanboy? I didn't say anything regarding Tesla specifically, nor did I offend you.

Fosil cars do have a bad 12V notifications. At least now with cars having auto start stop the car needs to know that the 12V is in good condition. It has sensors that disable the auto start stop if the voltage is getting low.

@@rkan2 Yes, I changed it myself with Deep Cycle AGM for UPS, 30AH :) It fit right in there . Bit of a tough spot, I had to remove the cabin filter box.

If I was buying a 2013 Model S, I think I would start looking for front seat replacements, maybe back seat too. The old ones are not comfortable and very flat. Newer seats are way more comfy and stable to sit in.

Probably the MCU screen. However all the ECUs combined in the car could easily use as much power as the MCU screen.

There are commercial options but you still need to keep them above freezing to charge them. That might not be a problem where you live, but could be in Norway. During the summer it is no problem of course. I run a A123 Systems LFP 12V 40Ah on a 1.9TDI during the summer months.

I mean he stated that the HV battery was at 0% for months at another shop where the rear motor was replaced. The 12V was probably very low, too.

What the other guy said plus this car is in Norway where they throw copious amount of salt into roads to prevent ice formation, salt is a corrosive material, is impressive that this car original parts lasted 10 years driving in such moist and salty conditions.

I was pleasantly surprised, because so many people claim Tesla cars are badly built and also I have seen, newer cars from other makers coming from Switzerland, with the underside very rotten because of the salt. But I'm sure we all know all depends on the materials used on the car and dedication of the car maker, to try prevent early corrosion by the salt, it seems to me Tesla did their job, mostly well, in this case.

My 2014 had a weak 12v that would undervolt and upset the MCU during sleep. No messages, no issues. To be fair I think it was over 7 years old that point. Tesla replacement was a very reasonable price.

Cold cranking amps is not such a useful value for an EV aux battery. It never needs to put out such current. Better test the actual capacity in Ah. But yeah, 5 years is about time 🙂

On Autotrader UK there are 2 Tesla Roadsters for sale - "very rare", "collectible classic" is the description. One 2012 with 4,750 miles & the other 2011 with 10,600 miles only (7,600 & 16,960 kms). The asking prices are £175,000 and £195,000 respectively. I think that is COMPLETELY INSANE!!! You'd have to be an actual "Tesla cult" follower to spend that kind of money on cars that these repairers don't even want to touch! Nein danke! 😂
