I’ve always liked the idea Godrick took something off Godwyn with him from the capital upon fleeing. He then hid away that trinket or piece of Godwyn at the depths of the castle where it grew out of control
@jakobrenner2230
@jakobrenner2230 26 дней назад
I really like this interpretation! Particularly fitting considering Godrick's feelings of insecurity regarding his heritage and him taking the title of "the Golden" once Godwyn was killed, it makes sense that he would desperately seek to resemble Godwyn in some form.

The idea that Ranni and Godwyn could have been on a course to betrothal, making Godwin (pre-undeath) the next Elden Lord and consort to Ranni is amazing! Godwyn is one of the best characters in Elden Ring. It is so sad what happened to him. He is one of the few people who would have been worthy of being Elden Lord. I hope we can find a way to kill him fully so he can find peace or restore his soul.

I think I heard the theory on Ranni/Godwyn being betrothed from Tarnished Archeologist a whilr back, and it still sticks with me. I really think it makes sense. In her dialogue Ranni makes it very clear she doesn't want to be controlled "by that thing". She holds deep reverance for her mother Rennala, and Rennala had already been so wronged by Radagon/Marika and the Golden Order. She must have seen the writing on the walls. Why do the Carians have so many dragons? A bride price, perhaps? I really love this idea.
@matheussantos9367

Cool video! A couple points I think are worth discussing: 1. I do believe we’ll meet Godwyn one way or another in the DLC. We have to beat Radahn and resume the fate of the stars before entering the Land of Shadow, meaning there could be a possibility of an Eclipse happening. We have too little info to assume anything regarding what’s gonna be like, Messmer could not even be the biggest baddie in it for all know. From always surprises us. 2. Ranni killing Godwyn was very likely not personal. She’s collected, intelligent but most of all very rational. If she had left Godwyn alive, he’d most likely have taken the throne, maybe even would’ve figured everything out and gone after her. Nothing would’ve changed had she left Godwyn alive, it was just “business”

One of my favorite theories is that Miquella and Ranni had some form of cooperation that may have involved Godwyn's willing participation in being slain. He chose peace instead of extermination. He doesnt share his mother's genocidal paranoia. He chose to offer a hand rather than a final blow to a battered and beaten foe. Its fascinating to think he may have willingly gone into Death to expose the flaws that both Ranni and Miquella found within the Golden Order. Its why Ranni vows her Age reign only 1000 years. She is prepared to hand off the next Age because she realized that Marika's rule turned the Lands Between stagnant and ignorant in an effort for Marika to retain her relevance as faith in her power waned with the First Burning of the Erdtree, requiring the formation of the Golden Order. She sought to reign forever as a grand saviour.
@timelineenjoyer
@timelineenjoyer 4 дня назад
After this DLC, Elden Ring 2 or the next dlc need to have us facing prince of death godwyn. There’s gotta be a huge reason for Marika ordering the hit, and probably has to do with why Godwyn wasn’t an Omen and so OP
@katherineryan7126
@katherineryan7126 26 дней назад
I mean, when we look at Ranni’s other choices for sacrifices in the Night of Black Knives, assuming she didn’t know about Morgott and Mohg, what we’re left with are her own brothers, Rykard and Radahn, who she grew up with, and her half-siblings Miquella and Malenia who she had watched grow up. Godwyn was the only demigod who she didn’t share a parent with (since she likely didn’t know Radagon and Marika were the same person). It may have just come down to him because he was just her stepbrother, by process of elimination essentially. That’s kinda my Occam’s Razor answer, though I think it does also make a certain amount of sense that Godwyn would have been planned to be Ranni’s Elden Lord should she ever ascend the throne. I do, however, think that if this was the case, it would have been more of a back-up plan than anything, since with Queen Marika being “the Eternal” and sealing away Death and whatnot, I fully believe she wanted/expected her reign to last forever.
@jakobrenner2230
@jakobrenner2230 26 дней назад
I second this! Adding to your statement, Godwyn was also the most logical target for Ranni and Rykard's aims of toppling the Golden Order considering he was possibly the most powerful demigod politically (and potentially personally as well), so his death would inevitably cause a crisis. Regarding the succession of Gods and Lords... yeah the subject is kinda vague considering Marika was immortal. However, it could be that, being an Empyrean of human (Numen) origin, Marika knew her mind wouldn't be able to handle being a god forever, so she started cultivating a succession of sorts in private and only publicly was known as "the Eternal". This falls squarely into speculation though.
@Soapsim
@Soapsim 26 дней назад
The game says that more demigods died in the Night of the Black Knives. Godwyn (and Ranni) was just the first. So she must have had other potential targets. Heck, she could have had Godrick taken out.
@jakobrenner2230
@jakobrenner2230 25 дней назад
@@Soapsim I think Ranni merely provided the assassins the means to do something they were going to do anyway and were not following "orders", likely not even being told of what she truly intended when they slew Godwyn. The other demigods could have been victims of the assassins' choosing rather than Ranni's (who already got what she wanted out of Godwyn). To add to this, they clearly are not on Ranni's side by the time of the game.

I like the theory that Ranni was helped by someone inside the Golden Order because Godwyn got too close with the ancient dragons. Maybe Marika herself. Her reign is founded in deceit and betrayal, after all.

I hope we learn more in the DLC though i suspect that Godwyn is by development directive meant to be as he is and Miquellas Failure to Help him may be a catalyst in his plans as much as Malenias Rot

We are going to fight Godwyn in the DLC in his PoD form, 100%. Miquella said he wanted to give Godwyn a proper death "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death," and cure Malenia of her rot. That's all we really know about Miquella's motives. All of Marika's children were cursed, so there's clearly something we don't know about Godwyn yet. Miquella was sympathetic to "hybrids" because Miquella is also hybrid. At the end of the DLC (and at the eclipse), be very ready to fight Miquella when he realizes the only way he can accomplish his goals is by becoming a god.

I think it's mentioned by a finger reader crone that Godwyn was a martyr. It makes me feel like he almost went to death willingly. I agree with the idea that Ranni was destined to be the next God and Godwyn the next elden lord, but I almost think Godwyn was in on it. The Golden Sun and the Dark Moon come together to form the Eclipse. And what does the rune of death look like? An Eclipse. I think it was a ritual they both willingly took part in to usurpe the golden order.

I think Godwyn may be the father of Miquella due to the golden hair, and the fact that they have such a strong bond. Would be very George R.R Martin to hide the truth in plain sight. Malenia and Miquella are not one-egged twins so a conception from multiple fathers is a possibility Furthermore Radagons red hair seems to be dominant among his children. Ranni realizing Miquellas parentage may have fueled her decision to betray him, especially if they were already engaged.

But Miquella refers to him as a brother. Also that's a little odd given he, Godwyn, is the first son of Godfrey and Marika
@teddyhh9947
@teddyhh9947 26 дней назад
@@ghastlyanarchy1720 Its not a very fleshed out theory, i just find it weird that Miquella has golden hair. Miquella might not be aware of his parentage, and even if he were, it would be a secret too taboo to voice out in public. Either way Godwyn would also be his brother. It would also paralel Cersei and Jamies relationship from G.o.T in which Cerseis childrens golden hair plays a big role in showcasing their real father.
@ghastlyanarchy1720
@ghastlyanarchy1720 26 дней назад
@@teddyhh9947 that's fair. I see it as a much simpler thing, specifically for Miquella and Melania, Melania has the red hair of Radagon and she's a fighter, whereas Miquella has the blonde hair of Marika and is more passive and caring. But when considering all the other kids and their hairs it doesn't fit well. Since Ranni isn't a fighter but has the red hair and all the others from Godfrey and Marika have blonde hair and are fighters.

Its also good to know what Marika and Godwyn represents. Marika represents mother earth who is mother to all beings, both good and evil. Godwyn represents the next sun to be, who will replace the previous sun when time is right. The communion of the sun and mother earth is what allows life to flourish.
@ghastlyanarchy1720
@ghastlyanarchy1720 26 дней назад
@@teddyhh9947 life may flourish but there is no end, without death is life truly appreciated in this world? But in reality I just see him as more of a pillar, an example of how one should be while in the position he was born in. Whereas Marika is a touch more deluded with her desires having removed death from the elden ring so no one really dies, why not have natural death anymore? Why try and break the elden ring even more, surely that'll send the lands between into even more war than it has already seen. And having done it, war breaks out amongst the children. What good is a "mother earth" when she really doesn't do much good at all? Marika isn't really a mother to all as there was plenty life in the lands between before her time as Queen Eternal.

I keep seeing this Night of Black Knives is the inciting incident for The sSattering …but is it? Rogier says the Night of Black Knives happened *long before* The Shattering. Why wait so long to shatter the Elden Ring if the black knives assassination was responsible? I get the feeling the Night of Black Knives is not the inciting incident just another brick on the back of a seriesof things we will lilearn in the DLC that will give us a better understanding why Marika shattered the Elden ring. Also, You know what I always found odd? Why does Corhyn call the Dragon Cult book a work of Heresy? The dragon cult was incorporated into the fold yet Corhyn seems to think otherwise. Maybe it’s a Fundamentalist thing and they didn’t accept it?🤔

Rogier says that NotBK happened long before the Shattering...immediately proceeds to say that it became the catalyst and the Elden Ring was shattered shortly after _"It happened during the Golden Age of the Erdtree, long before the shattering of the Elden Ring. Someone stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh, the Black Blade. And on a bitter night, murdered Godwyn the Golden. That was the first recorded death of a demigod in all history. And it became the catalyst. Soon, the Elden Ring was smashed, and thus sprang forth the war known as the Shattering."_ - Sorcerer Rogier[About the corpse under Stormveil] I don't know what's up with this dialogue. Says that NotBK was long before the shattering of ER, then nearly immediately says that ER was smashed soon after it. Wonky translation, maybe?I don't know. As for Corhyn...honestly, initially I thought it was supposed to show that Corhyn doesn't knows the teachings of his own religion, as not that uncommon with people like him. But he says the same heresy line about every prayerbook except Golden Order Principia...including the Two Fingers' and Assassin prayerbooks. Because of it I lean towards thinking that it's just an oversight on Fromsoft's part.

Marika had a baby with Godfrey. Godwyn is not the son of Godfrey he is the son of Gransax. Marika asks her blacksmith for a weapon to slay a god. In the old days gods were slain like it was no big deal. The dragons were said to be immortal gods, some even say they have seen veiled time when looking to the crumbling ruins. Morgott and Mohg are Godfrey's sons. Perhaps even Messmer but we'll see. Godwyn's death lightning description says that Fortisaxx said he saw him casting it. How does he know death lightning before he is the prince of death? Hehehehe
@square-table-gaming
@square-table-gaming 24 дня назад
Couple of things. The description of death lightning does not say Fortissax saw Godwyn cast this lightning, it was it was "wielded by Godwyn, who befriended Fortissax," which does not imply when he wielded it. As far as Marika asking Hewg to craft a weapon to kill a god, that's pretty heavily implied to be the Elden Beast that she wanted dead.
@Vaelithe

How can someone who is effectively dead wield any incantation? I can't get over that. He either had it in life or the place where Fortisax entered has a living Godwyn. I'm not so sure that Marika intended to kill the elden beast as much as she intended to protect her standing. One does not simply become a God to kill yourself. That had to happen in a very specific time frame. Blacksmith has no idea how long he's been there smithing and doesn't know the state of Marika. We can infer she meant for us to kill her but speculation is the flavor of the week; I'm just doing my part Edit: Lightning takes 'faith' to cast. Very interesting 👌
@square-table-gaming

@@Vaelithe he definitely had it in life. I believe it wasn't always death lightning. We receive the incantation at a time where it's already been tainted by death. Basically it's original form doesn't exist anymore because the only 2 people to ever wield it are now tainted by death.

@square-table-gaming that's fair. I just respec'd into a 'King Godwyn, the Golden Death' build and it really got my gears turning about him having a draconic patron. I can't wait to meet him. I'm not sure everything in the lore is the truth Edit: perhaps his Incantation looked more like a yellow version of the aoe ancient dragon lightning in life? I could go for that since the spell is missing. None of the other lightning spells with Godwyns name are death infused its just that one specifically

I must disagree with the logic jump that Miquella's eternal youth would keep him from being a suitable vessel of the elden ring. Why not? Because he is small? he still was a force to be reckoned with and seemed to be a pretty solid candidate for godhood
