Wow, I should’ve seen this earlier. I went into storm hill castle directly and after 5 hours and at least a 100+ deaths..managed to get Godric down to 20pc HP. This is my first souls game and somehow, I’ve not rage quit after dying to those eagles and knights multiple times…
I bought a PS5 and this game on a whim because I saw it was a highly rated game. I haven’t played video games since 2011 and to say I’m confused is an understatement.
Bro this game got me completely lost like no story filling ya in Id say go play witcher 3 not as good of graphics but story and game play makes sense also multiple endings so you can replay the game
@@billykimber905 try to play again and pull up a screenshot of the island you’re exploring. When you go through areas, fill in a color with the parts you’ve ran through. This will give you a sense of direction when clearing an island. This helped me, I stopped playing the game in May (when it came out) for the same reasons as you. I just picked it up again and stared marking the areas I’m clearing. It helps, give it a shot. Remember the game is mostly exploring and having fun finding things.
I got mauled in both lol. At the bottom of the other one is some mist walk through nd bam instant death boss fight. And the 2 tiny gargoyles instant death
Tip guys, the torch is really useful against an enemy (dunno its name) which is a giant flowers that attacks you with poison and magic. Use the torch to stagger it an cancel any of it attacks
The torch works well for anything that's weak to fire. Like the first big cave with all the smithing stones, the rats and flame thrower guys. All those enemies are weak to fire. You can two-tap most of those enemies with the torch.
Whew. I didn't even think to buy the torch. Just hit it with my catch fire, and the sliced away. Had to jump on torrent and sprint back to a grace before I died from poison damage.
Fire Sling for Faith casters and the Jellyfish summon were my tools for the plant. It's above the Mad Pumkin Head that guards the Intelkegence spell giver mentioned here.
As someone brand new to From Soft games entirely, I appreciate videos like this that outright tell you/suggest to you the various things to do to get going 👍🏼
@@t-revstastetube8900 the only enemy in bloodborne is the camera. Game is ruined by a bad frame rate! I beat the game and loved it, but that was before we had ps5. Now I am used to 60fps and won't go back. Like going from broadband to dialup. Too bad they don't do a remake or remaster!
This is the only video I could find that actually helped me. Thank you so much. Sometimes with games like these you straight up gotta tell people what to do. Saying you can do whatever you want and take your own path is so overwhelming to tell somebody trying to learn. I can do all that on my second playthrough. This video has helped me know what I need and what to look for within the game. It’s so well done and I appreciate it good sir
You have to realise that they would've probably spent 20+ hours just in Limgrave finding everything mentioned here. That's meant to be the appeal of the game - it directs you to fight Margit but after X deaths you realise while it's technically possible to beat him with perfect dodges and attacks, it's just too hard so you go back and start actually exploring and looking for ways to level up, boost your abilities/weapons, reveal new map locations, find new dungeons etc. This is probably frustrating to younger players who grew up with open world games giving them waypoint markers and main story/side story objectives in their journal to follow, but if you give it a chance you'll see how much more rewarding it is learning the areas you're exploring more intimately, feeling excitement when you randomly stumble across a hidden path or cave with rewards to be found. Margit then no longer seems to occupy your thoughts and you realise there's so much fun to be had just exploring and becoming more powerful. You could essentially ignore Margit for 50 hours and just keep roaming the map turning into an ultra-beast who can take him down later with a few swipes or spells. But that's the beauty of the game, you can just play it your own way, some people will like the challenge of trying to push through the semi-guided main path without levelling up too much outside of the main encounters. IMO this is just too hard for me so I prefer 'prepping' by farming the giants for 1000 runes each and fighting off the bosses in caves
@@zaprct I have played Bloodbourne and sekrio that dont have markers. Also played Kingdom come. But i perfer having main story quests marked and few side missions marked and then having everything else hidden really gives a sense of discovery. when comes to the main story its pretty tedious not knowing were to go.
@@John-996 with your requests you just perfectly described the design of the game. Grace tells you where to go, but you should be able to work out that you need to level up before doing so. Explore the world freely without feeling pressured or rushed to do anything and you’ll enjoy the game much more than being funneled into a set path.
yeah, thats lame. im trying to actually experience the story, not wander the woods looking for "bimblefuck the supreme lord" ash of war to make the boss "cockdick of the great realm" easier@@billyboop1111
Same here! I just bought my ps5 last week and bought Elden Ring three days ago and I’ve been watching A LOT of these videos to help myself with this game! It’s so much fun though!
This is my first From software game, and it didn’t disappoint first few runs knowing where I’m trying to farm brass shield at Waypoint ruins and this map is so giant that I ended up running from a dragon, then getting killed by mini dragons, then killed the undead, then chase by the undead, then lost a close battle with an invader…freaking love this game and it is somewhat overwhelming how complex all the mechanics are but thankfully this community is steeped with excellent wiki’s
This game is a masterpiece my first Souls game aswell its so detailed and its in the detail that draws you in that and the intresting characters and World design....The gameplay is top Notch aswell up there with one of the best games ive ever played in my career .....
@@tsurugi5 What do you mean by don't ruin it? This is my first one as well but I've been lost lol.. still can't find this secret basement in gatefront ruins he spoke of...
Ended up in caelid 5 hours in. Spent the next two hours just exploring after finding the map fragment for it. This game is huge and I love the discovery without hand holding or quest makers forcing you to go around.
I saw the initial map and thought it was much smaller than I had thought it would be. Then I went out and found all the map fragments and I was very surprised with how large the map is.
man thank you so much. i’ve been so overwhelmed by the massive map and I keep running into bosses that 2 shot me. didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to go to the storm castle yet. i’ve played every souls game multiple times so i’m just overwhelmed by the open world element, as i’m used to just going down the path. again, thank you so much this helped a ton
Me too im very stubborn and ocd so this is very overwhelming for me but I love it. I just still cant focus myself any which way yet. I cant move on til I beat tree sentinel cuz im stubborn although I did roam a bit in the area just getting used to combat and mechanics. Alot going on and its packed with things to do. I just need to calm down and take it slow. 😆
This open world is blowing my mind lol I’m used to dark souls having a set way, now I get to move around at my own place, I’ve already found 3-4 named enemies and I’m barely to the stormfront gates lol
I can't believe the size of the game so far. I went looking for that Halleigh guy's fort, or whatever his name was and found the Sofia River area on accident, but it was an amazing reveal. The elevator took like 60 seconds to hit the bottom, and it was a crazy cool reveal, almost like the ascendance from Carthus to seeing the view of Irithyll.
@@alejandroaraiza2226 Siofra has been one of my absolute favorite discoveries in the game. I’ve been doing my best not to spoil that in any videos - it’s such an amazing surprise!
Favorite part of the game so far. Looked at this weird rotunda building with an elevator inside and was thinking eh, there’s probably an item or something…
I stumbled upon the river while running away from some bears. This niche area tucked away in the middle of nowhere is larger and more impressive than some entire areas of Dark Souls 1-3
So glad I found that on my own as well. I went directly to the Erdtree to get the goodies than spawn near it to find that ominous elevator. Thought the game was bugging for a sec then was blown away. Even at level 19 or so I was able to find and light all the touches. I won't spoil anything from there.
This is like no other game i've played before. Normally there's an objective or quest or some type of guidance but for this game I genuinely have no idea what i'm supposed to do
Also if you're running a dex build, there's another carriage at Gatefront Ruins that has a flail inside the chest, needs 10 str 18 dex and is very effective on horseback 😁
It took me over 20 hours of play time to finally be able to beat Margit! It's definitely better to explore and level up and find as much stuff as you can then to just sit there repeatedly and die trying to beat the boss, especially when you just get more and more frustrated each time.
I've quit the game several times, but have had the feeling I want to like this game. If I saw this guide earlier, it would have helped a lot. Super useful guide. And just the perfect amount of info without spoiling. Big Thanks!
This is the first game like this I’m REALLY TRYING. I played dark souls but never got into it because of the difficulty but being older and more patient, I’m giving this one a try so let me be the millionth person to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GUIDE 💯💙
I love the fact that after successfully killing first 10 or so monsters and learning how to guard counter I was transported to selia cristal tunnels 😂 luckily I was familiar with the gimick so I ran towards grace site and fast traveled out of there asap
If your just starting the game and are very new to it and have no idea what your getting into this video will explain everything in great detail I made my first character not knowing what to do and kept dying a lot and trying to rush through things I made my 2nd character doing all these steps and boy is he ever strong make sure you do all these steps before heading to stormveil castle , great video!
Man this helped me so much I done the first two Dungeons and I wasn’t too sure where to go after as I don’t want to go to high level area yet and this helps so much thank you
This was super helpful guide for me, I am new to dark souls games and I got in and started running around and was honestly overwhelmed by it. The game is a masterpiece, having a little direction early on really helped me to get my bearings. Cheers.
Im 8 hours in and explored a poison swamp i got to by random chest, a city i got to by elevator and margit. During all this i had around 10 enemy types (most of them bosses) visible, it was a ride
I found that chest, as a lvl 1, before getting the mount or knowing I could fast travel through the map 😭. Explored a decent bit outside of the swamp before just making a new first character after I got sick of getting one shot
@@Epiccheese247 ya without a mount that would have been brutal. This happened to me last night... I had even seen a video saying don't open that chest. ha. At least I knew what to do.. Even at level 24 the enemies in the cave were brutal. So I ran past them all... and found my way out of the caves and too a grave sight so I could teleport again.
By the way, if you missed the witch who gives you the summon bell, you can buy it in the hub area. You can access this area by resting at a bonfire near the first boss (Mergit the Fell), the maiden will teleport you. At this hub on the lower level you can find a kind of a statue of some witch or smth. and from her you can buy the bell and some summon spirits
@@mattporter383 You have to equip the spirt you wanna summon in your pouch... then when you are able to use it, an icon appears, and you can use the action button and the pouch quick key to summon them.
This video has been super helpful and my constant companion through the early part of the game. Easy to miss the stairs going down to the Ashes of War so make sure to explore the right-hand side of the first set of ruins! Also if Renna does not appear make sure to actually REST at the site of Grace and not just travel there.
i've played essentially every other fromsoft soulsborne game aside from elden ring and i still felt overwhelmed starting the game. this video really helped me learn the ropes of it.
Great tips. I read a couple of reviews that said to follow the golden path, I guess they were doing some trolling like those guys that say hidden path ahead at a way that clearly is just a solid wall. I beat Margit after MANY tries, pretty sure it took about 2 dozen attempts including with summoning people that probably also had no business at that fight like me.
I'd recommend putting the spectral steed whistle in your POUCH and leave the Crimson Flask for quicker access. So many people don't even KNOW about the pouch it's crazy... FromSoft doesn't really even mention it. I would also recommend getting a 'lantern' ASAP so you can keep a weapon in your left hand vs carrying the torch.
The issue for me is this is my first souls game and the hardest thing for me to get into is not having a missions list or tasks to look at. I'm only level 16 and I'm basically just running around without something to do. I'm trying to get into this game but that's the biggest hurdle for me to get over.
@@jamesroyale2723 an update for me is I'm currently loving the game. I'm level 53 right now and the thing that changed for me is instead of searching for a specific storyline I started searching for gear and weapons. For example, I took the time to watch guides to get the bloodhounds fang. Then I took the time to upgrade it to +5 and add the enchantments in it. I found a few more things and even unlocked a lot of the map. Once I felt ready I went through all of stormveil and beat that. After that I was into the game and ready to keep progressing and playing. I then went and got eleonoras pole blade and Nagakiba. Once I got that I tacked all of the academy. That leaves me to where I'm at now, and I decided to put bloodhounds fang away and now my main focus is gathering runes and smithing stones to upgrade the pole blade as much as possible. I like that weapon the most right now. Bloodhounds fang is heavy and I'm not the biggest fan of that. Anyways, that's what worked for me. Watching tons of guides and giving myself missions and objectives is what thrusted me into loving the game. I think doing that and leveling up everything before going through the main stuff and tackling the main bosses is the best way to go in my opinion. I still don't understand the extent of everything yet and that's fun because it keeps me engaged to learn and keep going. Hopefully you can get into it like I did! It's really fun!
Played for 2 days, got bored and uninstalled. Who have time to play a game where you have to watch 100s of videos just to understand basic things. I think most of the revies of this game are paid/fake just to create hype
@@SachinMaheshwari1995 it's definitely not everyone's style of play. Like I said in my original post this is my first souls game so everything is new to me. I don't have unlimited time to play I'm married with a 2 year old so my game time is at night only 2-3 times a week max. But it's just about getting into it. I'm enjoying it, I'm enjoying learning about it and learning what new things I can do and upgrade 🤷🏻♂️. It's not a big deal lol if you don't like it you can play something else lol
Don’t forget to go into the catacombs in the area with the first map fragment so that you can get your Glintstone Whetblade and therefore the ability to change the weapon arts on your weapon!
I'm just happy to see all the newcomers having a blast once they get over the initial shock on how overwhelming it can be. See how much more fun a game can be without questmarkers and icons all over the map and hud? Everyone finds their own path and has a unique experience. I'm loving this game myself.
@@Mr.PR2000Same. I put this game down a while ago out of frustration. I'm used to games that guide you like Horizon and God of War. This and Breath of the Wild I made slow progress.
@@jeffghant4760 Funny you say that i just deleted Elden Ring today! I just got bored of it. Maybe later down the line I’ll get back to it. Breath of the wild was the same problem i just stopped.
I just beat Margit, at like level 15, and I wish I had seen this earlier. So much more I could have done in the starting area before attempting him. I’ve spent hours trying to beat him 😂
I was literally fixing to Google what to do when starting out and this just happened to be in my feed. I'm new to the series, so i was overwhelmed greatly! My brother and I took like 3hrs figuring out how to summon/join other people's games 🤣. This has helped, great job and thanks for the effort!
Skipped PS4 generation, got a PS5 and this game because my friends have been raving about it for ages. Gotta say...games have changed a LOT since I used to play in my early 20s.
Sneak through the ruins To the right of the wagon where you get the sword and you’ll see another wagon open that chest in the wagon you’ll get a flair with a bleed effect! Not bad when you get the required attributes. But the bleed effect is awesome. Also if you find a weapon that you don’t have the strength for you can two hand the weapon to lower the requirements.
ok this is a lot to take it.. i am stopping at the 6 min mark and coming back for more later.. so much in this game to figure out on ur own and i would be lost without guides like this.. much love
Thanks for this. As a 2nd time souls player this helps me understand where too go as this is honestly the longest time since DS1 i just did not know what to do or go.
I was level 30 when I took on Mergit with a plus 3 weapon and I still did weak damage. Im doing a hybrid faith build, but I think its best to start this game with a dex/str build and then later respec into faith because all the weapons you get early on scale with str/dex.
A mounted Knight near some kind of small castle thats closed, and a Ghost sitting near the main door, droped a weapon skill that add holy damage to the weapon, and add a faith scale also, it's pretty useful for early faith builds.
Experiment with damage types. Strike (aka blunt) slash, and piercing can all be resisted differently and if something is doing Look at your own armor details to kind of see how damage is broken down. Your enemies stats are simular. It is also possible for a weak armor to have a defensive value far higher then you'd assume if the damage resistances line up right with your enemy
It only gets better as you get better find weapons you like and get fashioned up and stacked stats and ohhh my god it just gets so good. Wait til you play Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1-3 heh you have literally thousands of hours of pure bliss ahead of you.
I played for nine hours and just completed the castle boss. Did it early for more sorcery items. Hope it will pay off. Bosses 2nd phase are quite challenging up close but with some items its much easier.
i firstran around the whole map finding the hardest optional bosses to do took2 hours on every boss and about 1 hour of findingthem to make 10 hours already took the souls and stuff went to the church place with the smithy to upgrade my weapon made it + 6 with 30 vigorand 32 strenght went into first boss in castle and opliteratedhim with the help of my trusty viking demon archer
5 hours in, just got to West map, the Manor. Did I miss the castle haha Idk about you guys but I’m having better luck just exploring til there’s ruins/dungeon or a boss. Like, the random groups or outposts everywhere haven’t given me much.
Reviewers:"There is no good or bad way to start and should explore for yourself" Me *1 hour creating my character and the next 3 hours fighting Tree Sentinel*
I went from my jaw hitting the floor when I first saw the open world to audibly saying “nope” a few moments later when I saw the tree sentinel in the distant lol
Accidentally got into the red area very early on at level 9, was running for my life because I was getting killed by mobs just staring at me, got lost, went even further, spent 5 hours running deeper and deeper, and rage quitted. Will try again tomorrow. I love elden ring
I’ve been having a blast and did most of this before watching the video but I’ve noticed that the cost of levelling feels like it scales faster as you gain levels and it’s much harder to really experiment and try new things such as legendary armaments at the beginning of the game since the stat requirements for some things such as the tree sentinels spear are as high as 30 strength. I understand the strong weapons should require more investment but I wasn’t expecting to be able to collect these stronger weapons so early in the game and that investment is hard to achieve such as the 40 strength required for the legendary armament ultra great sword that you can get from a not so tough boss just to the south of limgrave.
@@jeremybarney5178 I heard about that but I’m trying to find him. I went down to Castle Morne in the meantime. I’m gonna give him another shot after I beat the boss here.

Completely confused at the beginning and this video has some great advice. Although it kinda reminds me of a travel guide for when you go backpacking 😂😂
This was so helpful!! I'm still in Limgrave and scared to fight everything, but glad to know that we don't have to progress the story in one linear way
Great vid! Very helpful on what areas to check out and somewhat in which order. Would love a follow video on this, but a little more detailed - dungeons, bosses, etc.
I spent 30-60 minutes on the first friendly npc you talk to because he called me maidenless. If I knew he would keep aggro after I died I probably wouldn't have hurt him.
It's all up to you. It's first possible immediately after that, but I waited until I got the knife and killed the 2 bosses west of storm gate then I went through to storm hill and killed the lady on the boat boss before being able to summon
Yes, yes you can. For me at least she did not show up until I fought the tree sentinel at least once. Surprised the video did not mention that as people will think its a glitch at first if you avoided the large horseback boss at the very start.
@@theguy8763 I’ve noticed a trend of newcomers taking the “explore on your own and don’t look for a hand to hold” advice very poorly. FromSoft games aren’t for everyone. If somebody feels that they need clear direction and map markers they should probably just stick to AC.
This is amazing. Im a huge of DS games. Just recently completed DS3. This video is 100% opposite of what i've done. I definitely need to back track a bit from what i've been doing. THANK YOU!
My dad walked me through my first Elden Ring playthrough. He told me to pick the Prisoner because it is statistically the best, and starts you off with magic. (I never really use magic in video games, I prefer swordplay) he then leads me to the gate front ruins, and told me to sit there and farm the enemies there until I get to a certain level, and specifically level up Vigor until I could beat the big guy in the Gatefront Ruins. I ended up hating Elden Ring, and I put it down for a long time. Now I’m playing as a knight, and I’m having so much fun cheesing bosses with a bolt, and actually getting good at beating enemies.
My first time playing a souls game… went with wretch. It was extra hard for the first hour or two but once I got some decent armor and a nice sword it’s been great! As you pointed out here though… I made a mistake and went north from Tutorial and then east from there… so I ended up in Caelid and dragonbarrow!! Hahahaha whole lot of running and crouch walking behind bushes! Hahaha
LOL. I have 7.5 hours played and haven't gone through that gate with the archers and huge monster that leaps down because I thought I had to level up more to battle it. Level 23 now. I guess you can just run past them all?!
Running works. I tried it with the samurai and wrecked the giant (bleed damage). You need to lead him out of that area or the archers will make things really hard.
@@jazzbrew68 This. It took a video on youtube to tell me that....DUH! Obviously you can lure him out away from that area and away from the archers. Just have to take out the one guard first or he will call all the other guys to help him (in the area where you will be fighting him). You really have to think in this game on how to get stuff accomplished. It's not your typical donkey kong
This Game is insane. Never played a Fromsoftware game, and usally i hate veeeey hard games (tried DS3 a while ago and never defeated the first Boss somehow) but wow Elden Ring is a blast. Im 9h in and defeated godrick quite early, this fight already was the best videogame moment ever xD cant imagine how awesome this game is going to be later on :0 The world exploration is so great, it feels like Zelda BotW+ Skyrim + very hard 👍🥰
I went straight to margit as a new character and I died so many times. I eventually beat him underleveled. I was not going to give up. It's nice to see this guide because after I beat him, I explored the castle a bit, but I knew people mentioned exploring other areas before facing margit.
Dude I started the game, tried going where I was supposed to. I cleared a camp near the first dragon boss, entered some sort of basement, opened a coffin and teleported myself to a swamp with red sky in the middle of knowhere, hidden place I guess? Not sure if I was supposed to do that, enemies are kind of strong in this place. Wish me luck getting out of there.
If it took you to where I'm thinking, you're hella far north from Limgrave. You can find some pretty sick armor pieces out there, it's a bearskin cloak and a hood.
This was made closer to when the game came out, so we didn't know this yet, but you just have to fast travel to the church and it will automatically be set to night for Renna to appear.

This game has been super fun so far, particularly because it's not so easy but I suspect will get easier, and there's so much to learn and navigate.
So if you are turned off by Souls difficulty, should I pass on this? The world looks like so much fun to explore but I hate games that make me wanna chuck controllers. I’m really loving Horizon right now so I’m not in a hurry but I would love some feedback.
This is the first “souls” type game and I wasn’t used to it at all... but I just had the outlook of trying to adventure/ just work on fighting well. It’s a grind but I’ve loved it so far.
Dont worry about the difficulty, I myself was just like you , elden ring is my first souls game , although i havent played much , you can easily overlevel and defeat the bosses , or you can summon spirits which makes it easier or even summon a friend who's better at the game to help you. Dont miss the experience , try it and don't stick to one boss , if you cant defeat it do something else and come back.
