This is very reliable. This list is from the RIAA. Michael is ranked 7th in the US and ranked 3rd worldwide behind Elvis and The Beatles.

To those you wonder why Jackson is so low. Notice that this is US sales only.. MJ was very much a worldwide artist, and would likely do better on a world list . Edit. He would be no 3 in front of Madonna but after Beatles and Elvis.

I'm surprised to see people are weirded out that The Beatles is no. 1 instead of Michael Jackson because I thought everyone would agree The Beatles is one of the greatest (or perhaps the greatest) musicians to ever exist. But still, I expected to see Michael Jackson as no. 2 not 7.

For everyone is extremely confused, keep in mind that this list applies to the United States. Across the whole world, Michael Jackson is #3, and Garth Brooks isn't even in the top 10. Country music artists often only see success in United States (especially the Western part), which is why many European viewers probably wouldn't recognize Garth Brooks.

While Wikipedia is not always correct, the figures are corrolated across multiple sources, and so should be somewhat accurate, in particular at the top: 1. The Beatles 2. Elvis Presley 3. Michael Jackson 4. Madonna (as many in the thread mentioned, this was a massive miss by FBE) 5. Elton John 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Pink Floyd 8. Rihanna 9. Eminem 10. Mariah Carey It feels as if FBE only took US sales by male artists. Gareth Brooks is 18th, the Eagles 19th. Heck, Taylor Swift is ahead of Gareth Brooks (as are The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Queen, and others).

It might seems odd but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Yes he was the most famous person ever but he wasn’t prolific. He has 6 studio albums 5 of which are in the top 200 best selling albums of all time. But that’s it, the rest on the list has 3x to 6x more albums released. Per example The Beatles has 12 studio albums (13 in the US) and have 3 albums on the top 200 best selling albums. Anyway the rest on the list are also great artists who gave wonderful music to the fans.

Completely wrong. This list is the biggest selling artist in the history of the U.S. They used a list by Business Insider where it clearly states it's US records sold. This can be clearly seen by Garth Brooks being at number 2. More accurate list can be found on Wiki which uses global records sold.

Johann O It's not from business insider, it's from the RIAA, and if you look at the list it's based on album sales. Madonna has more singles sold, which pushes her # higher. But Garth Brooks pushed her out of the way with album sales forever ago. He's also the Best Selling Solo Artist of all Time and has been for a while.
