Eleanor Talbot was said to have been incredibly beautiful and sometime after her first husband had died she is said to have caught the eye of King Edward IV of England Much like the story of Elizabeth WoodVille, it is alleged that Edward married Eleanor in secret. Edward eventually lost interest in Eleanor, she then very quietly decidedly to join a Carmelite community and withdraw from public life. She died at the age of 34. It would be 15 years before Edward IV would die unexpectedly leaving his 12 year old son also named Edward next in line to the throne and his brother Richard as protector of the young boy and the realm. Richard would eventually claim that all of the children Edward had had with Elizabeth Woodville were illegitimate because he was previously pre-contracted to marry Eleanor Talbot.

Edward IV: such a capable man but a complete fool when it came to women. Marrying Elizabeth Woodville (and her clan) was a such a bad mistake; he should have stuck with Eleanor. Thanks for the great story and beautiful shots of Sudeley!

Excellent as always. If a copy hadn't been found, more history would have been gone forever. It really is true, those who have the gold make the rules

Thanks Evelyn. These Talbots seem to keep popping up everywhere. Last I heard of them they were in Ireland. Now one almost became the Queen of England. I wonder if there are any descendants left.

Marriages were about alliances and the passing on of land and titles. They had nothing to do with love or compatibility. 💚💚💚

So Edward IV secretly married Eleanor Talbot first, then either divorced or left her to secretly marry Elizabeth Woodville? Wow.
@EvelynEdwards
@EvelynEdwards 2 дня назад
Many historians believe so. Yes.

This one is a hard one for me to swallow, not being a Ricardian myself. I find it extremely convenient that he chose a woman that couldn’t defend her reputation, as she was dead. The person with the most to gain is Richard. The same goes for the murdered King and his brother, better known as the princes in the tower. As much as Ricardians love to drone on about Tudor propaganda, Richard created a lot of propaganda of his own. 🙄
@EvelynEdwards
@EvelynEdwards Месяц назад
I talk a lot about this when I go live. There was a lot of animosity between the Woodvilles and many many nobles and definitely Richard. This was definitely part of the removal of any vestige of them having power.
