Well, we got the bastards. Dorian Lynskey, Ros Taylor and Andrew Harrison gather in awe before the scale of Labour’s historic achievement. How did Starmer pull it off? What will Labour’s new era of service mean? And did we get the Portillos we wanted? Sure, there are some flies in the ointment - Farage, Corbyn, some tight victories - but this is a good-vibes-only zone. Stay for the end. It gets emotional.

Isn’t it nice to have a government that is actually serious. I don’t know how they will perform but I know they are serious.

Serious? We'll see. From what I can determine, the root of the rot that's finished the Tories is in all our political parties. If I'm correct, Labour will fail as well.

Liz Truss leaving in a huff, not even thanking her staff, is so revealing of what a small petty thing she is. Grifter Galloway back out. Good. Now it's on the media to stay sane with Farage and keep a sense of scale. Because I'm assuming they will act like he's come 2nd or something and build him up even more.

I'm on the social equality left BUT I welcome this Labour Government because without a labour win we have no chance of influencing the country's future. Not ideal for the left of centre but 100% better than a Tory/Reform coalition government would have been!

36:00 I absolutely agree that these reform areas and poverty stricken, and disillusioned areas, lots of which overlap, need to be concentrated on. Poverty snd struggle breeds either fight and passion, or hate. Sometimes both. We cant leave these people behind. Its cruel to do so, as some of these people are the most under supported in our country.

It was worth watching BBC's coverage for Laura Kuenssberg's expression as she read out the exit poll, priceless. Then soon after we cut to Chris Mason looking like a death row resident who'd just learned his pardon had been denied. It was downhill after that though.

19:15 Andrew I'm usually with you but definitely not with you on this one. Thank you Dorian for pointing out there are two sides to it. Glad the independent stood her ground despite the mistreatment followed by pressure. We can't have every seat. There are lessons to take from the ones lost.

The best thing about Mogg losing was the Channel 4 interview they did with him before it happened. He was asked if he was going to win and he said something about it not being right to say. Emily said something like "so we can assume he's won then" as Krishnan turned to her and frantically waved his hands in a "no-no, don't say that" gesture, and Mogg tells them "I wouldn't assume anything"... then Krishnan turns to Emily and says "so he's lost then". Just brilliant.

Kept flicking between Sky and C4. Sky for the results- they seemed more up to date with tracking numbers of seats and breaking news. C4 was hilarious with the Campbell/Stewart/Dorries showdowns, although I had to switch off when they wheeled out two disgraced former chancellors, Zahawi and Kwarteng. It felt like C4 were taking the piss out of my mortgage hike!

I thought Channel 4 gave entertaining coverage with Anne Widdecombe being surprisingly coherent and statesman-like about Reform's potential plus Nadine Dorries being completely derranged with her views about Conservative futures. Alastar Campbell and Rory Stewart were calm and measured as usual (except when Alastair asked Rory to say something grown up when Nadine had thrown a cravy accusation of sexism).

Deeply unimpressed by your commentary on Faiza Shaheen. She was an excellent local candidate with (clearly) high local support. She would have been a shoe-in for Labour but Keir Starmer took the decision that he would rather IDS in parliament, as Mandelson said on the night. To blame it 100% on Faiza with so much vitriol was grim to listen to and a real stain on your coverage, as someone who has listened to 100s of your episodes.

Found it deeply frustrating, too. Felt like a willfull strawman of the events and was deeply frustrating. Especially talking about the importance of the democratic process and how the local party was bypassed in the deselection and it came from on-high with no democratic process

I'm interested in how "Labour" it'll be under Kier Starmer. Most of the MPs who I align with, he kicked out or made it so they would lose in new boundary contests. I have always supported Labour, up until he started doing that. I'm interested/scared how the next 5 years are going to fare with him. I hate the Tories, and I'm glad they are out. But we socialists and other leftists need to keep a close eye on what's happening.

I’m on the left too but I forgive him some of that as after Johnson won his 80 seat government there was talk of maybe another 10-15 years of Tory governments. Starmer has done very well to turn things around to a massive majority this time by moving back to the centre ground and making himself more palatable to centre right voters. I’d ideally have preferred a more left wing government but I think Starmer’s Labour will be far better than the Tories have been and I’d far rather them than a more leftwing Labour government like Corbyn s stuck in opposition again.
