one of my favorite low-wattage appliances is the YQ-105 mini electric hotplate, sometimes called a coffee stove. inexpensive (about $20), 600 watts, very well-made and works very well. the hot plate is 4 inches in diameter, but i use it with pots and pans up to 8 inches in diameter and it still works well. my ecoflow river pro will run it for 2+ hours no problem.

Out in the west, where many nomads like to travel, there are frequent burn bans. Bad weather and high winds also tend to force you to cook inside. That and not wanting to carry fuel in my rig or worry about C02 already had me planning to go fully electric in my rig. One more issue that propane and butane fuel users tend to overlook is the high price to purchase it in out-of-the-way locations, which means planning ahead by carrying plenty of fuel. And as COVID showed us, fuel prices can not only vary widely, but there are situations where it can simply be hoarded by everyone who is afraid there won't be any available. Going strictly electric with solar eliminates that dependency and also makes you are more ecological in your life on the road. All electric RV's are on the horizon! Thanks for the video!

What a smooth set up! But I couldn't live without fire. I'm here for the 700 watt or less reviews, though. The thing is, a 600 watt air fryer kept blowing my 100 amp breaker fuse, shutting down my 2k watt inverter, and frying my wires.😢 At least when we're broke down on the side of the road we can make coffee and cook food. With coffee, all things are possible. 🙏🏼🤣

Hi from the UK, I live on a small river boat and use an Aferiy 1200w power station, it runs my 900w kettle, 1200w Gaggia espresso machine, 700w toaster, 300w Cook pot etc etc… “not all at once”… unfortunately we don’t have the weather here for great solar so I have to run my main engine to charge the power station or my small petrol Genny. I admire your thinking and enjoyed watching, thank you! 😊

Girl, I agree with your philosophy 100%. I will not use propane or butane in my van. No open flame. I have an Echoflow power bank which is 1150. I love your ideas for cooking.

I have the toaster, a rice cooker and the exact same electric kettle. I accidentally knocked over a glass of water on my inverter. My solar is built in. I flipped my main switch to off and lot power for a few days, drying it out patiently. Thankfully, it works like new, now. I have butane on hand as well and use as needed inside the van, but I open my door to cook. I’m going to look into your hot pot sauce pan! I bought refried Mayocoba beans in the ethnic food section of a restaurant supply store yesterday. In pouches!! I can see a simple bean burrito in my future… new subscriber!

Great video indeed. I have a boat, not a van, but these low wattage appliances do make sense if conserving power is the goal. Neither butane nor propane are dangerous, but I the hands of knuckle heads, yes they can be dangerous. Just recently bought a hot pot, shaped like a tall coffee mug, to boils water, mainly for coffee that uses about 300W, and has 3 temp setting, and auto shutoff, but mostly used when traveling and using a 400W car inverter.

Propane is just another thing to run out of and get filled. We're all electric, but keep an isobutane backpacking stove as a backup.

I cook everything from scrambled eggs and pancakes to crescent rolls and chicken thighs and fresh vegetables in a rice cooker. 😊 I saw a YT where a lady baked a cake in a rice cooker 😅

As I prepare to start doing weekend trips I am very grateful for this because I was scared to use butane. Both Nostalgia and DASH offer many small appliances that use 800 watts or less. Consider getting a 12v rice cooker, it sips energy vs DASH's 200 watt rice cooker. I make oatmeal and heat up many things in my DASH rice cooker at home. Their egg bite maker works well as a small griddle, around 450 watts I believe. Thrift stores are wonderful places to find these small jewels inexpensively. I paid $2 for the one slice Nostalgia toaster like yours. The MyMini is a 2/1 and uses about 250 watts.

Those are great suggestions certainly much safer than gas.

I live in Australia. I go camping a lot. I have a 120-ah battery in a box that I can plug into.I have 3 Anderson plugs with 2 USB ports,+3 cig lighter ports.my fridge, and solar panel,plug into this. I can also use and use my small Bluetti power bank. and charge that from the solar. camping has changed a lot.

Those 2 mode hot pots are very useful, they come in ceramic coating as well for those who don't use teflon

I also am not a fan of live flames in enclosed areas. Thanks for all your practical suggestions for lower wattage appliances to get food needs met. These work in sticks-n-bricks, too.

I totally agree with this philosophy. I formerly used a propane burner, I got tired of always worrying about “ do I have enough gas”? I use a Jackery 1000w and I drive a tractor trailer. I run a microwave that takes 1100 watts, does just fine, a panini press, coffee maker, that same pot you have and I charge it up while I drive around all day so it’s ready for tomorrow. I just retired the exact same skillet you showed there because the “ non stick” didn’t last long. I’m experimenting with a hot plate and regular skillets. Another fun fact…I once ran my batteries too low to start my truck. I plugged the Jackery from the 12 v socket to an always hot 12v socket on the truck and just relaxed for an hour and it trickle charged the batteries enough to get it to crank over. Cant do that with propane. Keep up the good work.

Definitely helpful advice. I'm thinking that I'll take a rice cooker to my off grid spot. It's only 400 watts, so that won't worry my little battery or my inverter.

I wish someone would make a 2 slice version of that toaster , that you could select only 1 slice so it doesn't energized the empty second side when you are just doing 1 slice of bread.

That electric hot pot is great. I saw a RU-vidr that used a 200w rice cooker for baking, of all things, so I'd guess that it's possible to bake in that pot too.

I know this sounds weird but untying that bread bag or untwisting a tie would absolutely get on my nerves. First thing I would get me a chip clip & place it around the bread bag end code to where the bread starts then after i gave it 1 or 2 twist, then take scissors and cut the floppy part of bag off to within 3" of the bread! 🙈... nice lil set up you have there. Great video, got me pulling out my Dash to cook 4 sausages, after what seemed an eternity I finally pulled out my cast iron to finish the sausages and made a decent size pancake in a jiffy. Still trying to get the grease out of the Dash since you can’t sumerge in water and I’ve wasted countless paper towels trying to do so while the cast iron is already dry and put away Your video is great, I’m glad it works for you and many others, personally I’ll stick with stoves, have propane adapters, legally refillable 1 lb tanks, using my 10 lb tank to refill it costs about $1 a pound and is completely legal in a fire ban, I use a vestibule when windy that attaches to the vehicle and I’m good. Everyone is different and does what works for them, your video was very detailed and well done, I certainly appreciate the effort you put in it. Thanks.👍🏻👍🏻

Nice review of electronic appliances for minivan camping. I’ve has a 12v kettle for 7 years for coffee or anything you can make with hot water, and a 12v HotLogic Mini (HLM) slow cooker for 5 years of cooking while driving. Recent additions are a Dash griddle to make a fried egg or 1 egg omelet or 2 or 3 breakfast sausage links on, a Nuwave induction stove burner (can be set to 600w, 900w, or 1200w). While I do have a duel fuel one burner camp stove I mostly use the HLM. Also, I’ve used both the Dash & the induction stovetop in a motel room.

Thank You so much. I got the Nuwave, so that I can travel and use those camping kitchen pots/pans/kettle. It has 3 settings 600w, 900w, and 1300w. I travel with a 1 gallon thermos and a electric water immersion 300W (acts just like the component inside the electric kettle.) That way I can heat up the gallon of water if I need to use my portable shower. I've been looking into the 1-2qt convection oven they are usually still cutting it close in wattage 900-1000w. The 3 QT Instapot is 600w. It's be great if they had an instapot with a crisper that was 3QT and low wattage...

During bad weather I'll open the back and use a gas stove for cooking so I don't drain my power stations (yup, more than one for different needs) too quickly. Oh, I so needed to see this video. I have been preparing to move back to my land for about a year now. My rent has gone up from $500 to $750 within two years so it's a given! I retired two years ago and had been living my best life, but jacking the rent up was the end. Plans for a 30x30 garage to be built are underway. The guy doing the construction says It should be large enough for me to live in until my home (that had no roof for 8 years) can be rebuilt. I had been worrying about living in it with my car while trying to stay warm and cooking. Thank you, I subscribed and I'll be back.

Thanks for your simple to understand video. If I ever buy a portable charging station I will make sure it has pass through charging . If only option for butane cooking, I have a 3 foot standing metal toolbox on wheels. I place stove inside and access by opening a small door. If ever had a flare up ,it is in an enclosed metal container. I think I will invest in what you have also to give my day camping trips move flexibility in my little kitchen area.

power stations are a great deal right now. I have ordered two StormRock 500w power stations both under $200 each from Wal Mart. A 300w is $99. Needs must, finances must for the size of station purchased. As savings grow, larger stations/low power usage appliances can be purchased. Of course. solar and 12 volt options are available too. I have several Mini and Dash appliances, all low voltage. I have to stop me from buying more as space in an RV is an issue. Great video. Thank you.

I quit eating too much bread. Occasionally, I toast my one allowed slice for peanut butter and my home made jam. I was happy when I found the one slice toaster at Walmart. I also have a small soup/rice maker, a hotcake maker, and a small skillet besides my coffee warmer, kettle. All of them run on less than 500 watts.I also have a small 500w heater and a 12v fan. I use them at home and when camping with my 1000 W inverter and simple battery set up. I do not like the idea of propane and other combustible fluids/gasses in my minivan, either.
