@@shockadellick totally agree. I just picked up a surron and its a different tool for a different situation. There is some overlap but each is good at certain things
That was a fun ride we had. And you didn't talk trash my Sur-ron too badly :) All are fair points. These bike are apples and oranges and its completely obvious when they are sitting next to each other. However the Sur-ron was capable to my surprise. It really comes down to the riding you are going to do, and in my use case.. I do a lot of Urban exploration and the occasional rocky AF trail which it can do. I will give my input here as well: Suspension: eBeast.. ya. huge forks and rear shock.. but expected on a bike more than twice the sur-ron weight. Tires: Stock to Stock... eBeast for sure.. but I do have a Shinko 244 coming.. and I also plan to run a 16/19 setup which will change the sur-ron completely. Brakes: for me SUR-RON. I love both brakes on the handlebar. The sur-ron has regen as well which helps. And the first gear thing is nice too. The sur-ron brakes are surprisingly strong.. but I could tell the pads were getting hot at some points. Nothing a new pad with heat fins won't fix :) Power: eBeast - Holy $@#& the eBeast is NUTS. You have to be careful for sure.. its really almost too much power for this type of riding. I do plan on getting a BAC4000 controller and doing a battery bypass on the stock battery on the Sur-Ron to boost it by 40%
obviously we have had this discussion many times, but stock-to-stock, if you are doing single track trails i think the ebeast is the winner. The sur-ron can be upgraded to be a monster on single track, but in stock form i think it comes in second place (still great though)
I think one of the main selling points of the Surron for me was that it only weighs 100lbs so its not going to crush a persons body if they crash like a full sized 250lb+ dirt bike can. Also ease of portability for loading, unloading is big for me. Surron is supposed to be coming out with a new model that is in between the Surron X and the Storm Bee weighing in at about 150lb to 180lbs and with more power than the original 5kw Surron motor. Sounds like an ideal combination of weight and power.
that would be a good size for sure, but since there really arent any Storm Bee's out there, its hard to imagine them releasing another model anytime soon. I plan on buying a sur-ron for some lighter use in the near future.
Surron ultra is what you're talking about. Is about 150lbs I believe. I rode my buddy that has both. Ultra is equivalent to crf 125 big wheels. I like the ultra much better.
Thank you for a sensible and mature review, without all the annoying lingo, silliness, and juvenile willy-porn that are found in almost all the other electric dirtbike reviews.
Tires can be expensive to replace and sometimes the cheaper tires might last a season, PIRELLI tires and inner tubes hold up, noticed on some of the Chinese websites some dirt bikes are copied like Honda for example.
What would you equate the power on the eBeast to? Like a 250 4 stroke or less? I'm looking into getting one but I know a 12kw motor is around 16hp but not sure if it feels that little with all of the torque.
i would say the torque is more like my 450 4stroke, and top speed is more like a 250 4stroke. The torque will throw you off, and you can blast up really steep hills, but when you hit 50-55mph you can tell the power starts to fade.
These bikes are in two different classes entirely. One is basically a mountain bike, and the other is an actual dirt bike. I think a more fair comparison would have been the Ultra bee from surron
agree, but cost wise they are almost the same. so for 5000, you could have one or the other (this was the basic idea for this comparison, what would you get stock-to-stock)
I think it was hard for me to judge with so little seat-time. It was definitely bouncy for me as a 6'3" person. My friend did try to set his sag correctly, but im not sure how much you can really do with that suspension.
Absolutely. The SurRon suspension is trash and even when upgrading to high quality mt bike suspension as I did (Manitou Dorado), the mtb quality stuff is still trash compared to the Nicot's stock suspension.
there is a local shop selling the ultra and storm bee. honestly the Ultra is super tempting. I think I do enough real single track that a fullsize is better for me.
You can stand comfortably on the Surron if you put higher handle bars such as the popular Protaper 3 inch rise model or something else to make it taller. I also noticed you said your ride was bouncy on the Surron but you're not supposed to put all your weight on the seat, someone told me it should be 10% or 20%, not exactly sure.
My friend with the sur-ron has added bars and a number of other mods and it is much better. The original point of this video was to compare that stock-to-stock performance. Having said that, I will likely be picking up a sur-ron because there are some places I could take that but not a full size dirt bike.
I would say even when larger risers and bars, the SurRon is just not up to par with ANY adult style offroad motorcycle. Its egonomics are micro and the suspension (mtb or other) are not up to snuff. I had a thoroughly modified SurRon and unloaded it once I road an E-Beast. There was no comparision-the Ebeast is the best bang for the buck. I had $8K into my SurRon and the suspension still doesn't touch the stock EBeast suspension!
the surron has an actual percentage while the ebeast is a crappy volt meter. Id guess they were similar based on previous voltage number ive seen on the ebeast. I may have had slightly more, but the volt meter doesnt really tell you much until its dead.
@@FeathersOffroad The updated E-beast has a percentage indicator bar. Having owned both of these bikes (modded SurRon) I would say they are close to the same range for offroad.
They both cost the same and if single track is what someone would be riding, this feels like a comparison that person would want to see before spending $4500
@@FeathersOffroad Yea ,.you could fo by the price . But still both of them are in completely different categories. ebeast is way better value for money .
