YOU ARE ONE AWESOME 13YR KID!!! Without knowing you, I’m still very proud of you! Especially for helping your grandma who I know appreciates having an amazing, smart grandchild as yourself!! “Now could you help me fix mine?” 😆 I’m just kidding hunny! Thank you for sharing! 👍😇
I took everything mechanical apart and found nothing wrong with my dryer. None of the pulleys were bad and the belt was still in good shape. I did find a couple of penny's and a dime in the bottom of the dryer. After putting it back together there was no more squeaking and the dryer is operating fine. This makes me think the problem was that a coin had gotten stuck between the tub and either the back of the dryer or the front panel that holds the door. I'm not the kind of person that purchases things over the internet I don't need so I took the dryer apart before I wasted my money. Good Luck with your Dryer, Don't throw it out because it squeaks. Thank You Joe for sharing your knowledge with us! God Bless
Had a nasty squeak from a stubborn idler and tried the WD-40 method and it lasted 4-5 months... took it all back apart, removed every single pulley and cleaned them up as well as the shafts with brake-parts cleaner and a rag and took the time to clean the extra lint out of the shell and exhaust. Lubricated the shafts, retaining clips, idler and tensioner pulley bearing surfaces and the “path” of the belt on the drum circumference with Sil-Glyde brake grease and haven’t had a chirp yet! Hope it lasts, the dryer has always had a chirp and is currently running the quietest I’ve seen yet.
I’m just going to say the same thing everyone else said. Your a lifesaver. I even have the exact same model as you. I was about to go buy a new dryer today but decided to look it up first. Only difference is after opening mine the bearing was already shot out and in pieces. Thanks again!
@@Doityourselfwithjoe Two years later...I just want to second that "lifesaver" comment! This is my exact dryer and exact problem. A newdryr is a lot more expensive.
Thank you so much. I just had my maintanence man come and fix this and the issue came back. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, they are unable to come into the apartments, so I need a temporary fix for now. I don't want to irritate my neighbors anymore! lol!
Thanks... I greased the felt... Lol... Until I saw this video...super easy!!!.... My son helped... Sprayed the pulleys with wd silicone... No squeaking until I order the parts
It's still holding up.. the pulleys are in the cart, however it keeps blowing a fuse after so many dries.. 10-15 then stop. I think the fuse should have a higher temp limit... Any suggestions? These are small fuses, pack of 20 for $15.. I've change each one in the back but it restarts after the lil white fuse is replaced
@@cherokeemckinney68 I wouldnt change fuses. Its because the pulleys may be binding. The fuses are doing there job. changing them ncould cause a fire so i dont recommend changing them to a higher fuse.
whew! thank you for letting us hear the squeaky sound. it made it easy for me to know instantly that it was the same noise as my dryer is making! dang! i guess there's no way out of it, i'm going to go order a whatchamacallit ... thanks again and have a great day.
Had to come back and say thanks, I was able to stop the screeching and I have the part ordered. I only had my 80 year old dad to "help" me lol but it was easy.
Good tutorial on taking apart the dryer, mine is a different model but came apart just as easy, the noise on mine turned out to be one of the rubber wheels that keeps the drum rolling which was becoming seized so I just had to apply some oil and it was back to normal use. Thanks!
Have an identical sound, though more intermittent. Opened it up and found a multitude of durrent pulleys and wheels, not sure where to check first. Hopefully this does the trick. **** I do think it's important to remind people that anytime you're inside your dryer housing, it's important to vacuum it out as much as possible. That lint buildup is where dryer fires come from. Every 2-3 years is ideal for piece of mind, doesn't take long.
You are correct! Thats how mine started on fire! I did clean it out after i replaced the pulley, with in a year my dry caught fire. My problem was the dryer hose to the outside plugged up and thats why the dryer caught fire.
Thanks so much for this video. Sometimes it can be a little intimidating to try and fix these things. Your video gave me the confidence to give it a try. It just so happened that i have the exact same dryer. Gave it a drop of oil and new part is ordered. Thanks Again.
If you ever have a problem with the start button not working let me know. I have a fix for that as well. I fixed the start button once and forgot to record the process and now im afraid of taking it apart to video the process
Good video, replaced the tension pulley assembly a year ago after watching, but now behold, it squeaks again! They do have other wheels spinning, the one that have retaining rings holding the drum. One thing for sure, you oil this pulley and it still squeaks, you have another issue, hehe..
WD-40 is not a lubricant.. I took mine apart and used axle grease to lubricate the pulley bushing. Thanks for the instructions on how to disassemble dryer, it help a lot.
Please don't forget the lint. I didn't show this in the video but it is very important. I had an issue with mine and it started on fire! Here is the link incase anyone is interested! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pN70LyPTipc.html
Thanks for the video. I did some vacuuming prior to praying the pulley wheel. Mine was a white pulley. There were to roller wheels towards the back on mine one on bottom left behind the round bin an the other right side too behind the bin. I sprayed the center of those two wheels too after cleaning them. So far driers back on squeak free for now. There was massive lint under there. Whirlpool 13 years old now. I’ve had the replace the temp sensor on it a few years back also but still going.
mine is a maytag and yesterday i took apart everything (i had replaced the drum myself a few years ago) and applied bearing grease in all the right places and the noise which sounds JUST like urs went away. i do have a spare pulley like that i can use if it comes to that. Liked and subbed!!!
was not my issue i had hair on the idle wheels that stopped them from freely turning. i had to take the whole drum out but this did help me thanks for the video
OML! Joe! Are you married? Would you like to retire to Louisiana? This saved me some time before I will have to replace my 2011 Whirlpool. Lubed up the pulley but it's plastic-craptastic. Lubed the arm of the motor while I was at it because it looked rough. Just going to let it ride until it dies or I come across some cheap replacement. Mama don't do retail!
Louisiana is way to hot for me! When it starts squeaking again, lube it up again. The part for th dryer shouldn't be that expensive. I'm glad it helped!
I did WD-40 back in 2015 To buy time, then used chain saw old, lasted way longer then regular oil. But after that started buying much older used appliances that could be repaired with basic hardware off a shelf. Modern appliances have turned into a cash grab.
Thank you. Very video to show the problem. Quick, easy, and good fix. Thank you for showing me, a Simpleton, how to fix something that has been bugging me.
heres the link Whirlpool 8547174 Idler Pulley for Dryer amzn.to/2VfRcup I also have a video on replacing the pulley ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ix5o6LgSbFE.html
On my 26th birthday, the dryer was squeaking. My youngest brother, 13 years old at the time, asked, "what is that squeaky noise?" My youngest brother is 14 years old now.
Thanks for the video. Quick question, will a seized up idler pully keep the dryer from starting? I had a really loud squealing noise then the dryer stopped. Thanks for your help.
Okay I'm hoping I can get a quick answer to a problem of having... when I did this on my friends dryer worked perfectly on my dryer I screwed up and here's what's happened the button that controls the light has come apart from the door and I'm not sure how to reattach it where it goes exactly... I know it goes somewhere at the bottom but I'm not sure I see the clips but can you tell me exactly where that button is positioned it works fine it's still attached to the connector it's just come apart from the door
my button is not attached to the door. It is attached to the dryer, when i close the door , the door pushes the button. I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about. If you send me a picture at doityourselfwithjoe@gmail.com i might be able to help.
I'm wondering if the bottom of the dryer is completely enclosed or if it is partially open? If open at bottom maybe possible to tip it over on its side to get to that part easier?
I'm fairly sure they are all enclosed on the bottom because of the gas used to dry the clothes. Not sure about electric, however just thinking about it for safety reasons I'm 99% sure they all are. If anyone knows if I'm wrong please correct me.
I doubt it is the motor. I thought mine was as well. I just replaced my pulley again. This time it made a different noise, and I thought it was the motor. after taking the dryer apart it was the idler pulley again.
