5 ton gets job done! My electric log splitter was the budget option. Literally the next cheapest thing to a sharp axe, Im so happy that I don't have yet another petrol engined device to house and feed and maintain. Just 40 kgs so its easy to transport and it stores on end. Virtually silent - Its perfect for my needs.

I used one for 10 years. however I by passed the right finger switch and added an in line food switch northern tool , $15.00 ) . Put a bungie cord on the left relief handle . that keeps it engaged, you lift the left handle for it to return . That way I can have a free hand to keep the wood from bucking back . I had the 5 ton hydraulic ram, instead of your version . Did everything I needed . cords and cords of wood, split in silence . a beautiful thing . I did up to 30 " rounds.

Had one in Tasmanian split 7 years seasons of wood with it. Saves a lot of hard work. Will split hardwood fine if not too knotty. Like any tool has limits. Made a stop I can drop across dual rails to shorten stroke for shorter wood... saves time. Remove it when not in use. Mine a Ryobi version. Used it on wattle this week.Tasmania.

just thinking of other applications, it wouldn't be hard to modify it into a shop press.

For early my whole life I’ve always had to split wood with an axe or maul but after I hurt my back I decided to buy a new 20 ton gas wood splitter and sometimes it struggles to split some of these pecan logs even after a year of drying out. Glad to see that that size fits your purpose

Yup I always thought the same thing. They look like a cheap toy. But they are not, they are just as capable as a petrol driven unit. If you are doing wood gas they are perfect because then you just power it with the generator you run with the wood gas system. No oil changes no messing with fueling it, no noise etc. Plus its more efficient when its not actually splitting its off its not using power or a patrol engine idling and eating fuel while you load the next cut. Add a foot switch to it so you dont have to hold down the power button and free up your hand to hold your stock in place.

Ahh - rotator cuff! Now I know why you made the DMSO video! I ordered some following watching that video for my mum - she's been on crutches for 20 years following complex leg injuries, and we've just tried it - definitely works on the pain! Now to get onto the Land Rover door skins I came to your channel for in the first place!

I have a splitter like that, I don't recommend it. I went back to doing it all by hand. But I'm not working with soft wood, mainly oak, ash and other hard woods. For hardwood kindling I do recommend it. I feel for you on the shoulder, had surgery on mine too.

Mine splits oak just fine and I mean big Oak. The WEN I have will do the same work the commercial units Ive used profesionally. The WEN I have is the same exact unit he has just with different branding. What unit do you have? If you are popping a breaker thats not the units fault. You need to plug this into a minimum 20 amp breaker and use a heavy gauge extension cord is an absolute must. They work as advertised and are more than capable of the rating.

@@Thrive-Off-Grid This one is branded as a Homelite- but thats just a badge. Ive seen them unbranded, Branded Hyundai, ToolShed, and TradeZone- they are all the same. Im on 6000watt inverter, fat extention lead and a 10 amp breaker and its not missed a beat. Like you say- Better than yet another 6,5hp I.C.E. to maintain and feed.

@@t.h.o.r. Yup you have to have as short as possible cord from the power Source. If I plug into a wall socket for instance it will fault our Inverter. It is the EG4- 6500 watt unit. But If I plug into the box that is directly connected to the inverter it works with no issues at all. But I generally run direct off our Predator 9500 gennerator running on our CFX demo machine.

I welded a large axe head to mine and it's the same make and model as yours. It now works like a 10 or 20 tonne petrol driven wood splitter and splits 40 to 50 cm rounds of wood no problem at all except for really knotted wood where it struggles a bit but i just end for end the knotty piece of wood until it eventually splits . . Also , if you look up log splitters on RU-vid there is a bloke who made a pedal setup so your hands free. I made one for mine . Works great and simple to make using a pine plank and string or heavy duty nylon fishing line . Cheers from 🦘🐨🇭🇲
