Last ride of the 2020 season - hottest snowmobiling day of the year and I almost put it thru the ice..horrible conditions but I cant wait to ride this sled again!
Me too and having the ability to gas up and keep riding without waiting for batteries to charge . Imagine telling your buddies ahhhh I can’t go I have to wait another 4 hours for my sled to charge lol.
This is so painful to watch. Like 10 minuets to get a sled turned around well two bigger idiots stand there watching the third struggle. It’s called editing 🤦🏻♂️
Much like with electric cars, I see these things becoming viable as soon as battery technology advances. Electric motors are better than gas motors, but gas tanks are better than batteries for energy density, durability, and cost. Instant torque and very few moving parts give electric massive potential, but we just aren't there yet. For the people freaking out about environmentalists ruining their fun, gas isn't going anywhere until a suitable replacement is found, and new vehicle environmental regulations almost always don't apply to extant vehicles, meaning that if in the future, more laws are passed to make snowmobiling cleaner, manufacturers will only manufacture compliant sleds, but nothing will happen to your old two stroke. Cars have had an enormous amount of environmental regulations put on them, but you can still legally drive a car from the 50's, for example. New technology that makes engines more efficient also tends to make engines better in other ways; excluding aesthetics which in this case is influenced mostly by nostalgia, modern cars are mostly vastly superior to cars from the past. A stock modern Sienna minivan can run a quarter mile faster than many, if not most classic (stock) muscle cars could, for example. The only near future scenario where we may have to stop running gas snowmobiles is if we let things get so out of hand with climate change that absolute, draconian measures are necessary to prevent an absolute catastrophe, although if it gets to that point, we'll have much bigger issues. I think chances are high that most people will switch to riding electric snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and ATVs in the next few decades, but I think this will be a switch driven by market demand, not the law.
Hunting Bison up here in the Yukon, people have switched to 4 strokes as they are quieter and disturb the herds less then the 2 strokes. The electric snowmobile might be the ultimate when the tech matures a bit. Huge Torque and very quiet. Website talks about 130km range...wonder what the real world range is off trail?
As much as I like the Taiga I feel they’re just a bit too far behind to be able to complete with the new Polaris/Zero snowmobiles that are releasing in the next 5 years. I’ll buy one the day they weight less than 450 pounds, have more than 100 mile range, and the quickness doesn’t have to change much.
I been out riding all day loving the return of snow season, I been watching your videos a while now and had a question, How do you record your audio when riding? with a separate mic to a phone or recorder or to the GoPro cam. My cam audio sucks. So I will be recording with a cellphone and mic and sync later.
How would you compare the power to a 500 or 600 stock 2 stroke? Its a awesome idea, but i think its going to be a bit still before any of the big companies take the electrics seriously. Do the have plans to make a electric atv? That i would love for hunting.
Guess I'll die on mt gasoline powered hill. Electric died out 100 years ago. So now all these Electric is the future cult members are on any Electric powered vehicle video defending it. Well there should be room for petrol powered and Electric.
@@SherlocckHolmez not sure what world you live in. The free market isn't driving the demand for electric cars trucks and sleds. Its government subsidies, have the average consumer drive an electric car, in a month they'll be begging for gasoline powered cars. You can't beat the short time it takes to refuel vs charge.
@@rockwilkinson8224 reminds me of the 05 apex I bought and couldn't afford to turbo, definitely made me a better rider tossing that pig around in the hills though
I didn't know there was any snow down around Ottawa yet. Lots here but your not suppose to leave your health unit district right now. If this keeps going it's gonna kill the snow tourism this year.
@@kwadlife4106 Considering the police are setting up checkpoints to create a protective "bubble" in the north, and with fines of up to 10k for getting caught its just not worth the risk of travelling. I have a AirB&B that's really going to suffer this winter. Its usually booked solid with snowmobilers and this year its wide open. I see your sarcasm as in you would just travel anyway. Good luck.
Its not if but when will electric sleds will become the normal, and the advancements being shown here are any clue into the future, it proves snowmobiling will live on. When gas vehicles came around people thought they were just a faze.. fast forward and here we are now. Im sure that battery life will improve, weight will diminish, and we will be left with a silent monster that has more toque and power then anything on the market today. Forward thinkers are becoming rarer and rearer it appears.
Midwest Machines agree 100%, they have a ways to go but will get there! Remember the 70's when you didn't get more than three miles without some sort of break down! My current sled has 12000 k and has been trouble free! Looking forward to electric replacing two stroke!
you think the forest service and hippys get mad when we sink our old 2 strokes in ponds. WAIT till a guy sinks some nickel chromium /lipo battaries in a few lakes and everything dies. Lou, i love ya. BUT you kids my age (almost 30) need to stop paaandering so hard to this enviromental movement. Formula 1 is going 2 stroke. #imjustsayingbud EDIT: i respect the effort Taiga is puting into this, if you guys want someone to help you with testing possibly in yellostone park message me. my email is on my profile!
I generally dont pander to anyone, but I do showcase new products and I love doing that. Its a cool product, do I think it will replace internal combustion engine sleds - about as much as I think electric cars will replace all cars on our roads. Cheers!
@@PowerModzOfficial Instant torque, and massive power, battery heaters, once the packs come down in price, hard to beat, no nikasil liners to wear out, pistons to replace every 100hrs, water pumps to fail, just need the price to come down a bit, we've had a warm winter in Alberta too with little snow, until 45cm recently, 60+ in the mountains, the sled guys are happy for once!
@@PowerModzOfficial no i wasn't sayin that you do lol i mean a lot of the guys 20-30. I just wish more young bucks were involved with helping both sides. I really do think electric could be great, the new dirt bikes look pretty darn wild! I don't look at hybrid tech as a negative, although i do think a 2stroke, turbo, and an EV should all go together at some point ha
@@bradclarke6016 Agreed, and lets not forget that the Carbon credits are being for by the big corps so they are doing their part. But....Greta sure doesnt want the old 2 strokes on the snow!
lol my first sled was a 78 elan my dad got me at the age of 6. we were at the 98 west yellostone expo and i got to choose between that old pile or a new 120. I am glad i chose correctly !
Backcountry riding sucks compared to trail riding at least trail riding your going to.difderent towns places and your not digging the sled out half the time
As a devout 1st Braaaptamist, I am offended at this blasphemous misuse of a track and skis. I will pray to St. Klotz that this evil be stricken from the world and blue smoke forever rule the land.
St. Klotz has also blessed all my 2stokes with annointing of his holy oil. Its the smell of excitement! Even the chainsaw and weedwacker get it now, just to get me through the summer...
Electric things don't do anything to earth. What is the battery made of?-Plastic How are the gearing and bearings roll so nice?-Oil There is much more but I don't want to go into it.
