The "hook" is more for alignment. So that at final assembly, it can be level and plumb by rotating the ring.

Hello Mr electrician, very informative video. Thank you for explaining! I have a metal 4" box that fits 2 outlets. How can I fix the looseness from it? It was installed incorrectly and now everytime i plug an item in the box gets deeper and more loose.

Can I set the box deeper and use a deep mud ring to create more box volume? I am thinking of using a deep double gang box and a 1 1/4" double gang mud ring on my 50 amp receptacles (for the EV and range) so those large receptacles have more room in the box. These are in 2X6 walls, so plenty of room. I would set the box, so the front of the mud ring finishes out at the surface of the 1/2" sheetrock.

Could I put a face plate over the mud ring and receptacle so there aren't gaps around the receptacle? Thanks
