The main purpose of this video is to help electricians line up a service mast and make a straight roof penetration. Only licensed electricians should be doing this.
I learned the hard way on my install. I bought the exact same box for my install. Got everything nice and neat and failed inspection because my box didn't have a lever bypass which unbeknownst to me has been mandatory on new installs for about a year and a half now. Lesson learned. Check your codes.

I was disappointed not to speak to a person but to have to listen to a long computerized message, BUT we were pleasantly surprised to have a tech notion at our door in 15 minutes who fixed our problem for us . Great service. I think if you could add a person to your phone protocol, it would be good for public relations.
Do you avoid using an offset, and deep strut to avoid the wood trim because of looks? I like the whole house surge protector, what reasons do you use it for? Besides the obvious surges of power? I also like the electrical sealant, do you use that on plaster exterior walls too? We use caulking 7:44 We are required to use bonding bushings on all conduit that contains service conductors, like on the nipple, here in San Diego

Will ONCOR allow you to use a meter socket and main panel unit or do they require it to be separate? I have the same old meter base on my home but I wanted to save space on the wall and only place the combo unit instead of a separate meter base and outdoor panel.
Hi great video, in a home that is in its 1950's the service is coming underground but the service is panel box is100amp would the service to street accommodate 200amp typically the power company says yes how can I tell?
That looked like 4/0 aluminum, he could have gone 3/0 for the neutral to save a little money tho and #8 for the grounding bonding wire but armored ground wire, hope he didn't forget to bond on the gas and water pipes.
does anyone know if its allowed to connect two "main panels" to the meter? i mean to connect two sets of wires to the bottom meter connection and each set to go to 2 different panels. (i want to work on my days off on a new panel, upgrading and adding circuits, while my old panel still works and still have electricity in the house).
I believe it is possible but not very common, it depends on the current service at your house ( how many amps ) and you need a meter that’s rated for 2 cables, also proximity to each other is important
I think it's for maintenance purpose. To disconnect the power supply easily without getting into the house to shut off the breaker and then turn it on once the electric works is done
Any townships that just have a volunteer fire department require a service panel outside in case of fire so they can cut off power easily and quickly in an emergency
Jeffrey Spence except areas with volunteer firefighters might be rural and /or high crime and their meter box might be one that’s hardened against theft, and a lot more difficult to just pull.
This is an incorrect installation. You cannot have a hole in the panel that is above the bus bars without using a weatherproof fitting such as a Meirs hub. without this fitting or a weather proof fitting water can get into the panel and mess with the bus bars.
@@erikwalls8048 Nope. Some electricians will even drill a tiny hole in the bottom of the panel so that any water that somehow makes its way in can drain out
Wrong the hole above the panel is blanked off with a hub blank that comes with the panel also the 2 inch fittings are steel raintight fittings for outdoors so no problem there either anything else i can correct you guys on?
I've never seen an electric meter base positioned like that. Meters are usually at the back of the house or in the basement. The house where I grew up in had the electric meter and gas meter in the basement. The meter reader needed to be let in the house, that's why you would hear him yell "gas man". The meter reader would yell, "gas man" and the dogs would bark. Gas Man! Ruff, ruff, ruff!
A lot of new construction (here in Texas at least) does an outdoor panel from the start. My indoor panel is grandfathered in but they told me when I bought the house that any major panel work in the future would move it outside.
Most places electrical readers have to come on property to read hence it cannot be installed inside or in a fenced area with a gate. Xcel Energy for example requires an installation in an accessible area
Here in NC we have to install the meter base, get it inspected/permitted by the County, then call Duke Energy to connect power. Power company does not supply anything except the meter itself.
Why.. just why didn't you place the meter at 5ft center to the can, then come from the right side knockout with an offset, and run the leads from the bottom left corner of the main panel? Run your leads fixed to the bottom of the panel to the side and make connections from the top? Just why? Also, why did you even bother with the can if your placing it 11/2-2ft from the existing old meter???? Why?? Its still high..but okay
Is it common practice in Texas to put the breaker box on the outside of your home? I would think it leaves anyone the ability to shut down your security system should they be in the need for it not to be working. Spell control any of your other electrical systems from the outside. Because I seen it done once before and wonder why you want to do such a thing. Where I'm from you're always inside the house. The circuit breaker panel not the meter.
Yes it is common. It does save money on the install. I always suggest putting it inside if possible. It can be on most interior walls. No closets or bathrooms and proper clearances per N.E.C. I have put them behind/by bedroom doors and even hallways. It depends on the person and what bothers them esthetically. Moving it inside can also increase the price $2,000 to $5,000 or more in price and that is also why it stays outside. Criminals can shut your power off from the outside even when the panel is inside because you still have to have a main disconnect outside. I tell my customers to lock the panel/disconnect, which is not code compliant, if it worries them. If there is a fire in the house the fire department is always told pull out the meter from the base.
@@srpchannel0169 Missouri if the distance from the meter to circuit breaker panel is less than 10 ft you don't have to have the outside shut off breaker.
You are correct. Oncor in Texas makes that determination. They like between 3 and 5 ft. The mast is usually much better supported when the meter is a little lower. That is why they require it.
uhmm... why would anyone do overhead power? dig it up and lay things underground... why do overhead voltage? tree's and cars fall/run over lines, shuts down the power for days... 10 yrs from this video the home-owner will come to facts... underground it... I think I might win the bid on that job... is there any reason not to run underground? do think about it...
If they went underground it would have to be parallel and perp instead of b line. This would take alot more wire which means more money. But yeah in the long run underground would be the way to go I think because minus hurricanes and tornadoes you still have snow and most importantly ice build up. With those 4 elements it pretty much covers the whole county.

Sometimes there is an overhead feed that goes to a panel that is on a separate pole (about 2 or 3 feet high) and not attached to the main structure (at whatever distance away from your house you want) and from there the lines are run underground to the subpanel inside the house.

He dwells within us all to be with and lead us in His ways. 💕 Deuteronomy 28 there are blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The whole chapter, and verse 46 is one example of generational curses. These go into the following generations, the 3 and 4th. Our children pay the price for our sin. Stop sinning you are sending consequences to yourself and to your loved ones, children. By God's law you are. If you don't believe me ask Him, in Jesus name may you see and know the truth in it's fullness. He's worthy of everything He said and paid for, so I implore you to do as God said.
