On this episode we find ourselves in the heart of Tokyo, Japan sitting down for a Pokemon-themed Pikachu afternoon tea. Pokemon, founded in 1996, is one of the most beloved entertainment franchises on earth. In fact, as of December 2023, The Pokemon Company has accrued a net worth of over $118 billion - yes, with a "b" not an "m" - dollars. So, it might surprise some of you to learn that Pokemon was initially dismissed several times by Nintendo executives, because they thought the idea of pocket monsters (Poketto Monsutā) was "overly complex and unfeasible." Geez were they wrong! Fast forward to today and you'd be hard pressed to meet someone who doesn't know Ash Ketchum (known as Satoshi in Japan), Misty, Brock, Team Rocket or most beloved of them all, Pikachu!
