People in the musical instrument manufacturing business will sometimes talk about how everyone knows each other and have friendly relationships. Here is a wonderful example of one manufacturer doing something nice for another manufacturer.

I have my dad's 1977 Big Muff V3, still with the wooden box, and all the paperwork. He gave it to me for my birthday last year, and it is GLORIOUS!!!!!

My ears aren't the greatest, but I hear absolutely no difference in the A/B tests for any of these....It's awesome the reissues are so close to the original.

In the first three shootouts the vintage pedals had a wicked crackly snarl floating on top that I couldn't hear in the reissue. The pedals in the last shootout were by far the most similar to each other.

Have always had a NYC Big Muff in my rig, just added the Bass Big Muff muff too, and that one is sounding bad ass with the guitar. Will own them all, one day.

Just another thing to note, I'm not sure if it's true but I figure I'll post it here in case EHX themselves have anything to say about it: I believe the Bass Big Muff (the one with the dry/normal/bass boost switch) is modelled after the later Black and Yellow Sovtek Big Muffs.

I actually witnessed Matt Mahaffey (of Self) record the demo for "So Low" in Christiana TN and he used the 1990s Green Russian Big Muff. Needless to say that is the reissue I picked. ;)

Thanks, Josh! Great video. The reissues sounded like the originals to me. They sounded so similar the difference was negligible. Could you make 1 more short video with all 4 reissues and play them side-by-side to hear the differences? It was hard to tell with the gaps of narration between them. (Short term memory getting old. LOL)

I have a sovtek deluxe reissue and the guy I jam with has an (I think) bubble don’t green Russian. I feel outclassed lol

Convincing video. The Reissues are very good. There’s just a raw, warmer quality to the originals that can’t be replicated. With that said, the op amp version was my favorite Reissue.

every time one of these muff videos comes along i try really hard to pick. they'll play one and i'll think "yes, that's the winner!" then they play the next one and it starts all over again

With the exception of the last one, the older units seem to have more bandwidth, especially in the low mid area.

a good mod for these reissues would be a blend control because older effects weren't that exaggerated effects-wise the unaffected guitar tone was more apparent and wasn't as saturated in the pedal's affected sound... that's why vintage effects sound more raw and dynamic

Only advantage to what you are talking about is that they would be more useful to bass players, who normally want a clean deep frequency foundation, and then the fuzz to sit on top of that. Cheers.
