Now, let's go to your channel and see the caption next to your Welcome video, shall we? This is hilarious! Here is the caption on Dawn R's Welcome video, the first thing you see when you go to her channel: It takes more effort to be nasty than it does to be nice. If you don't like my content, please just move on, but please don't "Dislike" my content just because you feel mean and nasty. It really honestly does hurt my feelings and my channel. Thanks! Wait...so, you set all knobs at noon...moved a couple this way or that for 1-2 on the clock and you weren't happy? No shit. Dial in a sound that works for your guitar and amp. Then leave it. I really don't see the point in what you're doing...other than sharpening the bone you already had to pick with this pedal, EH or both. Maybe you did more after the 7 or so minute mark...but I didn't watch past that. 22 minutes on why you don't like something? Again, I'm not seeing the point.

I agree! I couldn't watch much, either. Once I seen all the knobs in the exact same position and him only moving one slightly and acting like the sound was the pedal's fault instead of the operator's I had to laugh. Of course it's going to sound like shit if he doesn't know how to use it. I've had one for over ten years and love it. Looks like he needs an amp with presets, where the "knob" are all set for him. Guitar store jockey. LOL! The reason it didn't sound impressive is because it simply wasn't, but it wasn't the pedal's fault.
@RobertWJackson

@mechinizer6911
@mechinizer6911 4 года назад
@@RobertWJackson It was a joke? Didn't seem like one. You literally bashed the pedal for the entire video and in pretty much every comment you've made in the discussion, even with fallacies as there not being diodes on the "cleaner" channel of the amp when schematics show otherwise. I'm pretty sure you were serious, which would have been okay if you actually had it set up correctly. I run mine through a Fender and active EMGs and it screams, not muddy at all. Maybe you just got a bad one or your combination of equipment doesn't suit it well.

@@RobertWJackson Hey Rob, fwiw this pedal is best used as a lower gain boost for solos believe it or not. The boost function is the worse shit ever but using this for super saturated lead tones is actually viable. That being said, there are way too many pedals to fight one you dont like
@grungeman2745
@grungeman2745 6 лет назад
Then again does a JCM 900 sound good with any dirt pedals? I would recommend trying it with an actual clean channel rather than a classic gain type Marshall channel. Perhaps a Fender or Mesa. JCM 900s have diodes in the preamp I believe so it's already kind of boosted.
@RobertWJackson
@RobertWJackson 6 лет назад
I ran it through the clean channel dude. Hence the clean signal that the pedal was running through at the very beginning of the demo. No dirt at all., no diodes, no nothing. What you hear is what you get. Other distortion pedals sound just fine through this amp, as I’ve used it in countless other videos featuring a distortion pedal through the clean channel of my 900. This pedal just sounds like shit.
@grungeman2745
@grungeman2745 6 лет назад
I'm not saying that the pedal doesn't sound like shit just that in my experience the "clean" channel on a JCM 900 isn't the best at taking pedals.
@RobertWJackson
@RobertWJackson 6 лет назад
Nah, this model actually does okay with it. Mine is a first year 4100 Dual Reverb, which still came with EL34’s before they switched the 4100’s over to 5881’s, so it’s actually a little cleaner than most 4100’s. I will admit it that it IS temperamental with a lot of effects pedals, particularly through the effects loop, but distortion pedals through the front into the clean channel tend to behave pretty well. Sorry if I came off a little harsh in my previous comment, I had just finished responding to some troll telling me that I’m wrong. LOL

a Muff usually sounds better into a little dirt rather than pure clean. from what i know... im not much of a fuzz guy.
@RobertWJackson
@RobertWJackson 6 лет назад
This isn’t a fuzz at all, though. The Metal Muff is a straight distortion pedal. I think EHX just gave it the “Muff” moniker for marketing purposes to sell more of them, seeing as the Big Muff and all of its various incarnations are EHX’s most popular pedals.

I got Metal Muff now and sounds GREAT. I have Torque 100W combo with 12inch speaker. I have all Bass/Mid/Treble to noon and I have to use Treble boost on with knob setting to 9-11! But I believe it must be connected directly to power amp. Connecting to clean channel is usually wrong too. So if Metal Muff does not sound good (and many hated pedals) it is due to bad usage.

Ive had one of these since when they came out. Originally used it to add dirt to a 70 tube bass amp and it worked great, now I use it to add sludge to my Peavy Triple X for doom and black metal, and it works great. I will give you that it doesnt do modern metal very well at all and is insanely hard to dial in for classic metal, but it fills a very important niche for me and has been on my board for over a decade, only thing thats lasted longer is my modded Crybaby.

when used right, and messed with, the Metal Muff works great. Yes you can scoop mids and trebb and crank that dist for max metalzz. but you can get a great punchy thrash tone if you put your mids at 10-11 oclock and your treb at 12-1 oclock. Yes the trebble is not very flexable, but it does work well

the trick with distortion pedals is to use them as a preamp and avoid the preamp part of your amp ; plug it in to directly to the fx loop completely avoiding the front, big difference, I own it, I made a 40$ Harely benton pedal sound good doing that way,

The Friedman BE-OD does not refer to Marty Friedman, it refers to Dave Friedman, owner of Friedman Amplifiers. The BE-OD is a great pedal, but it has nothing to do with Marty Friedman’s tone. Yeah Robert, that was painful to listen to. My first EHX pedal was the Tone Tattoo. It was a Metal Muff with a NeoClone chorus and a Memory Toy delay. The Muff had a "scoop" switch in the middle and a built in gate with threshold control. And it had the boost! Fuck yeah! The delay and chorus were stellar. But that tone, well...that sound that came from the Muff side...fuck me sideways. It was brutal. I thought my speaker had torn. But when I clicked it off, the speaker untore itself. lol. Right back to Sam Ash to return it the same day. Used the money to get my first Wampler pedal, the Sovereign. Now *THAT* is a distortion pedal.

@@sergiojimenez9986 I was fortunate enough to start working at a young age. I've bought lots of gear over the years. The first big amp I had was a traynor YCS50. I kept using my metal muff with it because I did not like the gain channel. I bought myself a traynor 412 with V30 speakers at some point in high school as well, which I still have. The big buy for me was at a music store that I did a co op at in my last year of high school. They had a 6505+ head. Peavey sent it to them by accident. The owner wanted the combo amp in the store. So he gave me an employee discount on it. This was 2012, so Kempers and Axefx stuff was not nearly as popular. I was so excited to have the amp used by Machine Head, Amon Amarth, Bullet For My Valentine, August Burns Red (the list seemed to be endless). It was the tone I heard on many albums and knew I wanted. I've bought and sold gear over the years, but nothing has excited me like buying that 6505+ ... okay. Been using one for many, many years. You just got to know how to use it. I feed it with a boost too...then use an EQ to cut 800hz. The top boost is a secret of sorts...listen with only hiss...there is a crossover point you can hear at 8-8:30...set it there. I put it through my Blonde Tremolux and '58 tweed Bassman. If you try to make it sound bad it will. Oh, don't ever use it in a Marshall, as they already have treble "issues" LOL! And of course it is not meant for an already distorted amp.

As I mentioned, I’ve tried to love it. I’ve owned three of these things, and the first one I had on my board for over two years. I never could find a usable tone in it, and I tried EVERYTHING. Yes this video is meant to be more of a joke than anything, but it still sounds terrible regardless of what I did to it. The reason why it sounds better in other videos is because those guys EQ the sound in their DAW after they recorded it. What you’re hearing in this video is my recorder synced up directly with my camera and no editing after the fact. What you hear in the video is what it sounds like in the room I’m playing it in. If you like it, fine. But I think it sounds like absolute garbage.
@TheDogPa
@TheDogPa 5 лет назад
Touchy, almost like a Metal Zone. You might need an eq after it if your amp does not have enough of a capability to control the eq...simple enough. Not good in bright amps or with overly bright guitars either, but again, simple enough. I love all the talk that goes on everywhere (not necessarily here)...as if nobody knows how to use the tone control on their guitar or amp. Anyway, if it does not work for you that is fine. I have amps it does not work with...unless I have an eq too. Never sounds right to me with anything Marshall. Be well.

OKAY OKAY.. I decided to go ahead and pick this pedal up with low expectations.. Holy crap.. I am beyond impressed and truly stand corrected. This pedal set just right tied into my Boss EQ pedal sounds delicious. Honestly, my absolute favorite distortion pedal to date. I have played for hours on it now and have made multiple recordings with it so far and truly love it. I understand that everyone has their opinion when it comes to pedals and tone. My opinion is this, don't judge any distortion pedal until you tweak it with a good EQ. Most distortion pedals by themselves without an EQ in the line sound thin and missing that punch your face off mids that sound so good in metal music. I can say with absolute confidence if your willing to run this pedal with a separate EQ in the line on your board, you will not be disappointed. The tone i am getting out of this pedal is second to none to everything else I have, which is a crap ton of distortion pedals. Also, the boost option on this pedal makes it even that much better. Perfect for solos. I can't say enough good things about this pedal. It's all about how you use it and how much time your'e willing to dial it in with a proper EQ. Also, some amps simply don't take distortion pedals well, it's just a fact. I run everything through a solid state Marshal Head and 2X12 cab. Yes, solid state, because tubes amps are great, yet old technology that will faze out eventually. Also, tube amps are overpriced and unreliable for any serious musician who travels often. This is why all the pros that still use tube amps travel with multiple backup amps and extra tubes. Not something I'm wanting to have to deal with. Solid state Marshall is perfect for metal with the mids boosted, in my opinion. This Metal Muff screams on leads and is super thick and chunky on rhythms, love it! Cheers!

that's not a problem with the muff. That's a problem with the shielding and grounding job in your guitar. buy a noise gate, properly ground and shield your guitar, make sure your house is grounded properly, buy an isolated power supply and you should be good.

I love me some Muffs, but damn... that was hard to listen to. I'm happy with the classic tones of my Nano Big Muff Pi.

Sounds like you're sawing a chalk board in half with a dull fork.
