Great system the weak link is the connection at the spark plugs! Makes me want to buy an extra set of wires, put in some good quality connectors at the plug (from an experimental) and when it goes in for annual switch them out. Having adjustable timing for altitude is powerful no pun intended. Their ignition switch is wonderful. Surefly and Lycoming drop the ball keeping the old rotary switch. Great system just wish they could address the plug connectors!

I would love molded connectors like on cars. My hand cramp making them.

Hello. I am curious, is there also no increase in speed? I would think more complete burn would give at least a knot or 2.

They do fly a bit faster, on less fuel. FYI

Hello Roscoe. Good information. In terms of electronic ignitions, are Electroair and Surefly essentially “equals?” If not, what’s the main difference between the two?

The main difference is the spark energy. A Surefly SIM using normal magneto wires fires a 12-16K volt spark. ElectoAir uses a 70K spark which is much hotter and stronger. They use the Corvette wires for the extra voltage.

@@GrummanPilots Thanks for the clarification Roscoe.

The Surefly uses normal magneto plug wires (12-18K volts) where the ElectroAir uses 70K volt plug wires.

Surefly uses a magnetos harness, good for 16,000 volts or so, electroair, 70,000 volts. I go with electroair.

Combine the Electro Air with GAMI injectors (assuming you have injectors) and then run LOP, you could have amazing results and if you stay out of Mike Busch's hot box your engine will love it for longevity. When we get the lead out (new fuel) you will see cleaner combustion and oil which will add to longevity.

No injectors, and we see engines running LOP with carbs that are burning up their cylinders even with good baffle and seals. Not a fan of LOP, fuel is cheaper.

I may have missed it but what engine is he using?

Standard Grumman Tiger, the Lycoming O-360-A4K. 180 HP.
